First Entry!

Taking part in the Songstuff Music Promo Workgroup... This should be fun! woot!

I guess a little background for fun.

I'm entering my last year of a business degree next fall, and while I've learned a lot there's a bit of a gap between theory, strategies and practical application of those ideas. I've been focusing my studies towards management, marketing, and entrepreneurial development classes with the hopes of ending up self employed in either music or film. I started out as a music major my first year, but the switch to business has definitely been eye opening and to be fair, will probably prove more useful for my purposes in the long run.

As John has already pointed out having a plan and writing it down is so important. Even just a "napkin plan" for your own personal reference will prove far more useful and productive than keeping it in your head. I try and look at a marketing plan as a contract with myself. If I've written it down, I'm committing to it and I need to do my best to make it happen. It's always subject to revision, but hopefully the first draft will be clear enough to get you on the right track.

Hopefully these will get more insightful in the future..

Nice start Layne.

I for one will be interested to hear how John's and other's experience stacks up against the theory of a business management.

Cheers,

Hi LG!

I think I'll get a napkin plan started. why does it have to be a whole professional piece of literature! One baby step for me. thanks!

Napkin plans are fantastic! especially just as a way to keep yourself on track! just remember to keep you goals as realistic as possible!

It's so easy to get overwhelmed and distracted. I find myself spreading myself too thin and not giving 100% to the details that will make everything work better. Where's my napkin for focus?!
