  1. Personally, I'll say upfront that this type of music isn't really my preference, and my own vocal recordings have more noise filtering issues than your band's linked song, so bear that in mind. But the vocals are a bit too quiet compared to the instruments, and the guitar on a couple places gets some distortion beyond the normal intended amount (or that might just be my opinion). I do, however, love the lyrics and the particular stylistic choices in the vocals that make it sound both effortless and yet not lazy like a lot of country songs I've heard. The primary two issues I noticed really are just due to the sound editing itself, not the performance, so that's definitely a plus.
  2. Attempted to create a couple instrumental versions of songs by Jonathan Coulton and also Paul and Storm for possibly covering to no luck, wrote a new ABABC-type song's lyrics tonight, reworked a couple tweaks on another song, recorded a couple sounds from around me and messed with filters to get some interesting samples.
  3. Due to my relative inexperience I'll just say first that I haven't written enough, let alone had a fanbase for one of my songs commercially or otherwise, to say that one style works best for me over another in this regard. I will, however, like to throw in with Will23 on the great songs that had either verses but nor chorus, or, in the case of Queen and others, a multitude of choruses and verses. Rock opera tends to those more than others, but I digress. I try to write what feels best for the song instead of forcing it one way or another, though it still doesn't flow as freely as writing prose fiction does for me yet. I'm working on it though, which is part of why I joined here tonight.
  4. Definitely not the only song line I'd wish I'd written, but possibly the one I wish I had the most: "I would do anything for love, anything you've been dreaming of, but I just won't do that!" -- Meatloaf, 'I would do anything for love'.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1JGMoavVzU Alright, so I realize I have a very poor laptop microphone and using Adobe Audition 3 to remove noise isn't as good as having a good microphone when I'm able to afford to purchase one. I also realize that this song in particular has an odd instrumental sound, because I used custom channel extraction to completely remove the original vocals from it, and then some effects to make it sound more unusual but consistent unlike what it was after that extraction. As well, it is a Jonathan Coulton song released under creative commons non-commercial attribution license, so this cover is legally approved for upload, as will be any and all uploads to my channel as it is or a later one specifically just for my musical productions. Just so all of that is clear. I did five full song takes of this song and while the first verse vocals came in mid-word, it was the best single-run of them as far as noise removal overall. For any who haven't heard the original by Jonathan Coulton, and especially any that haven't heard any of his music, go listen to the original, it's really wonderful. Alright. For those that just did that or skipped over since they have heard it before, I'd like to hear what non-equipment constructive comments you might have on my first non-karaoke cover of a song. I didn't try to do it in JoCo's voice, because it isn't mine, and there are some stylistic things I like about this cover, but there's a lot I'm on the fence about, and I'd like to later record it with better equipment when I have the chance. Anyone able and willing to offer any advice for this cover?
