  1. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

That warms my heart Yeah I don't know how important mixing even is, some people I know can't really tell any difference between good and bad and say "Why don't you just put it out how it is it's great!!" But then other people will say "I can't understand the words" "It feels off to me..." So I think... maybe some people naturally listen more with the heart so they just get emotion regardless the mix, maybe others listen more with their head and are more aware of the technical side of what's going on. Not really sure, but I love that you showed it to your child and they liked it, I have such a heart for kids, probably cause I still am one I can't remember if you were the one who asked when this song was ready to be shared but it is now, share away my friend
  2. I'll be with you - Mix ok?

Mixing of course is still a mystery to me, and I'm never sure if I'm hearing the original in these threads or a revamped version based on feedback. If this is the original though, I don't agree about the kick. I LOVE the tonal area it's in, I hear nothing specific wrong with the mix, just overall it may be kinda... harsh in the highs? But isn't stuff like that fixed in mastering? Just sounds a bit too crisp overall, but that's when I listen with a critical ear, it's very easy to not try and notice and just drift off to the vibes. As for the song itself? My wife heard it in the other room and thought I was listening to Milton Nascimento, he's an amazing brazillian 70's artist so that's... pretty cool lol I thought it was good! I mean... it didn't blow me away per se, but not all music has to. Had a great vibe, lots of good jamming in there, cool parts, I dug it
  3. What are you listening to at the moment?

Well I don't really know what the EXACT definition of shoegaze is haha I just always associate it with long droney rock songs that feel spacey and atmospheric and build slowly instead of like... barreling forward head first. And I don't even know what I've listened to of them, my wife just puts it on and I've gotten to know some of the songs, that singer though... he sings the way I'd imagine a vampire would sing hahaha it's cool.
  4. What are you listening to at the moment?

Yeah they're one of the best bands I've heard that have that "shoegaze" sound. Hauntingly dramatic vocals, lots of atmospheric guitar work, they're great to space out to, had to grow on me at first cause I usually like music with more energy than that, but after I "got it" I really like em now.
  5. What are you listening to at the moment?

@Jenn my wife got me into interpol! They're great!
  6. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

Thanks so much, and yeah my wife can't even hear the changes I make to my mixes haha but what's important is for once I am truly 100 percent behind a sound recording I've made, feels great. Gonna start a new one soon.
  7. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

Hey @Jenn I'm digging your sound! Listening to "hidden nightmares" Very cool! Your choice for the chorus lift is my favorite part, very unexpected and very satisfying. Is that you doing the "choir" voices in the background? They almost sound sampled, which is fine if they are, but if you're singing them... WHOA... love it.
  8. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

I'm not sure if I've ever heard your stuff, I'm gonna do that after I finish this post! And haha I don't know how to respond to the last thing you said without it sounding weird lol I'm just gonna go for it, the only other person who ever told me "It's official, you and I are the exact same person" was my WIFE!! hahaha it was the first thing she ever said to me on youtube (we met on youtube and then I moved 9 hours away to be with her, then she moved 9 hours back to be in MY hometown haha) but yeah I think it's just... I let out my inner child alot on camera? And I think at the end of the day we're all like that on the inside, so I guess people who really let the kid in them out see themselves in me or something, that's my theory anyway. Off to hear yo' stuff!
  9. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

WHOOP WHOOP!!! This is like historic for me, first time I've been excited about one of my recordings in years, now I just gotta get a few more and then I'll start pestering all of you all day about how to get them heard.... yes that was my plan all along.... muhahahahaha
  10. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

I ain't changing it again lmao Seriously though I'm glad I messed with it, the point is clearer now methinks.
  11. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

Just want to say thanks to @Just1L for speaking your mind even when I said I didn't want criticism. Been messing with the song for 3 days now, resang vocals focusing on enunciation and clarity, I like it so much better and have made a video for the song. It's uploading now and I'll post it in this thread either tonight or tomorrow. And that my friends is the power of musicians sharing opinions lulz
  12. Arrogance

Yeah I'm always getting those two confused.....
  13. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

It's kind of hard to explain, but I feel like I've been being prepared for a long time for this. So my life has consisted of deepening my relationship with God and learning more and more about the pitfalls of greed and lust etc. So I really have just started to actually try to do something, my current goal? Just make about 7 recordings I really reeeally like enough to be excited to show/sell. I think just getting real feedback helps, I'm... a person who HAS played out in the past, but I've been secluding myself for many years and I'm rusty to both music and life right now. Kinda relearning everything, singing is difficult as I've developed mic phobia but once again, talking to people, sharing my material, it all helps I also have never made truly christian music before, tried to hide behind "positive" music, I just recently felt lead to really merge my sound with a truly christian message, that's also new and exciting but a little... getting used to it. I feel like a time bomb waiting to go off really. No plan, just following wherever the spirit leads....
  14. Simplify me, Override me (Thank you Jesus)

Hehehehe I'm resinging the vocals to get them to pop more, it's sounding even better now, hopefully will get them done today, and yeah your comment just made my day, this is exactly the reaction I'm wanting from the christian community, thank you so much!
  15. Broken Glass

I know EXACTLY what you mean about how this song came to be. Sometimes it just seems like the spirit comes over you and you just know it's time. I'm from Nashville so good old country like this hits me right in the feels, have you ever heard of Tommy Overstreet? His song "Fadin Renegade" is probably my favorite country song ever, we played it at my wife's father's funeral. You remind me a little bit of his stuff, unfortunately my computer is lagging so I can't listen to the whole thing until I restart or something but what I heard was that good old heartfelt country sound that makes me feel like I'm a kid again. Love those kinds of songs.
