  1. We're throwing a CD release party. We know we can bring out a bunch of people and thats great. we want to bring out more people tho and thats the bottom line. Are there any companies out there (in Toronto, Ontario prefered) that do promo and deliver results at the door? We are willing to invest money of course. Hope to get a reply or two about this topic. Thanks!
  2. Hey John! Glad to read your comments. basically i'm trying to spread the word about the new EP. trying to get as many places such as this community to review my EP and if possible post it on the actual site. aside from that we're also looking into local news papers and other local publications. Thanks for the break down on how to submit to other publications etc, knew it beofre and you just made it more concrete for me. Want to create some sort of buzz before we throw together a CD release party, hopefuly in march.
  3. heya thanks for the advice! honestly tho, i'm not looking for honest critique, not to sound full of myself or anything. we arent interested in just having random people critique the EP just for the sake of critque. no, we have done that before. we're interested in promoting our CD in some publication of some sort.. be it online or whatever. hope it makes sense.
  4. We're very close to the release of our new EP: "Chasing White Rabbits". Want to get exposure and some sort of buzz going on. how would you recommend for me to get the EP reviewed by others who post their reviews? not even sure how to word my question really but basically, i want it to be reviewed and promoted, advice on where to start? the more i read this, the more it seems like a stupid question
  5. Hey! heres how it works. yes, more then just root notes were added. he creates (not for all songs) new basslines according to the music i provide him with (be it a full demo or just an acoustic guitar and vocals). yes, credit should be given but writing credits? perhaps arrangement and adaptation credits? as for 'some basslines make thw song' i agree.. but just because someone added a bassline to an already existing musical peice doesnt meen they wrote the music. going round and round on this one. hope a resolution will come soon.
  6. These are all great questions that youre asking. I'll answer them all. all money made, any profit from the EP goes directly towards the band, for covering costs and creating more merch buying more gear etc. no one was payed for recording, if anything we all put money in together to make this happen. songs do not have copyright on them as of yet. thats happening now actually, yes i know it should have been done a lot sooner.
  7. heres the deal. the way my band works is devided to two. i will either send them all a fnished demo of a song, full drums bass guitar vocals keys etc.. and then we get together and practice. another way is, me playing my song from a to z to them with lyrics and then we work on the song. my bass player is upset i didnt mention him in the music writing credits. but does he deserve those credits? he writes the bassline, but he writes it ontop of my music/song. so whos right? one source said to me that if he didnt change any chords to the music then he did not write, but arranged. any input and help on this would be much appreciated.
  8. At this point i am using sonar4 and the latest version of reason. my sound card is an M-audio usb pre. when i open reason, i have no issues using it what so ever, same with sonar. but.. when i rewire reason into sonar and try to play my midi controller (through reason) there is serious latency. i know where to change the latency in reason but not sure where to look for it in sonar. what i'm trying to do is write synth parts for a song i recorded guitars and vocals (in sonar) but again, there is a lot of latency happening with reason. hope this doesnt sound too confusing. hope to get some answers. Thanks!!
  9. were getting set to record a new EP. the engineer recording us has mentioned something about punch recording guitar. not sure if thats exactly what its called but basically, the idea is to record each chord seperately and then to mix it all together. i'm wondering if anyone else has heard of this (i assume so).. i'm not sure how i feel about this method but if its an industry standard and the end result is amazing then i guess its the way to go. any input on this subject will mean a lot! Also, another guitar related question tho it can be about any other insturment. Would you recommend to record with the actual band i play live with or should i consider getting session players for this project? my band is awesome live but in the studio everything changes. Thanks for reading!
  10. i think youre missing my point.. i can get gigs here and around the city no problem.. i can book plenty of gigs per month, but whats the point of doing that? over saturating people with your music can bring you down easily. venues in the city will not book you if youre already playing a show that month in the city. we play once or twice a month and change up the set list every time, add new material to every show, to keep it interesting. what i want is to find an effective way to promote the band, the music and eventaully, get more people coming out to shows. i'm just looking for new promotion ideas, new ways to inreoduce people to the band and music.
  11. ^^^^ Hey john, playing in the city isnt the problem. the problem is with promotion. you can only play the city a number of times before people stop coming to the same show. we need new ways to promote, new ideas.. thats what this post really is about! Thanks for the reply.
  12. Were pretty busy playing about a show a month in the city (Toronto) now working on booking shows outside of the area. its working! heres my problem, theres only so much promotions and pushing we can do ourselves, or is there? Were trying hard to advertise our shows and pull people out to pay cover and see us play, it works but for how long? how long will the same 30 to 80 people show up? we need something bigger that will help us capture more people. anyone know of a way to do this? a bteer way to promote? perhaps a promo company? .. any ideas and suggestions are welcome. Thanks so much!
  13. Hey, I dig the sound of your band and you guys have a strong message. Keep it up dude.

  14. Hey!! I'm excited to hear what it will sound like too!!! No press release through SS.. didnt know it was available at the time. Released Make Me Famous last October.
  15. Wanted a recommendation or maybe some advice. We've decided on the type of sound we want to go for and the conclusion is a more electronic, almost (but not really) industrial. We have live insutrments of course, Bass, Guitar, violin, Drums and Vox, everything else we run backing tracks for (synths, keys etc). I think were going to go with using drum triggers for our new EP. Rent a top of the line combo of triggers and a good brain hub (V synth perhaps?) and go to town! Let me know what you guys think about that option. Thanks so much!
