I have been searching for a comprehensive list of song classifications and examples, for the sake of developing a better understanding of them. By song classification I mean using labels like: Ballad, Torch song, Novelty song, Anthem etc. I am not referring to structure (as in "AABA"), or subject (as in "break up song"), or genre (as in "country" or "show tunes"). I am looking for classifications of types that may or may not fall into multiple structures, subjects or genres. Id like to start this as a thread that people can respond to by listing examples. Also If you know of such lists already existing please provide links. thank you.
