  1. Electronic tune with '80s bits

Hi all. I've been working on a new song. I've tried to take some '80s style stuff and put into a modern electronic production. It's missing a verse and the structure of the song isn't final yet. I also want to redo the lyrics for the first verse. I would like feedback on the production, mainly. Also, this tune, to me, has a certain late night, dark city vibe to it, but with some uplifting elements. At least, that's what I've tried to create with the production. Let me know if this works. Thanks! https://soundcloud.com/will-sketches/should-have-been-my-baby/s-u9Qgm
  2. My friend CapM creates a new song a week. When I am in full creative mode, I come up with maybe 6-8 a year. Lately however, it's been more than 2 years since I truly came up with a new song. This song is the reason. Between trying to make this song sound like the song I hear in my head, and teaching myself a crash course in mixing, I haven't worked on anything original of my own since almost the day I first joined this site. Posting this is mostly for me. But I do need some feedback. Those who have trooped through the various incarnations of this with me will notice that the arrangement, lyrics, and all vocals are revised. Anyone who does good mixing can give me much needed feedback on the mix. I apologize in advance to the 3 minute crowd. This tune is 6:20. For the record, this is ALL me, except for the solo, which was done by my friend Robert McFall. https://www.reverbnation.com/robash1962/songs Well it was cold that night, it was raining hard, when the cruiser pulled up in my yard' It was Sheriff Donahue. He said; "Jimmy Lee, you got to come with me, there's been an incident over on County 23, we got to show you." Sometimes life hits you right between the eyes, and you just have to take the pain. Take a minute to pray. I'm a simple soul, I take care of my own, this seems a mighty high price to pay. The Lord giveth and He take away. C - Don't go down, don't take that road If you do, the devil's gonna get your soul There ain't nothing down there but blood and tears Satan's walking tall No one alive should have to feel that pain I see it in my dreams, again and again Somebody's got to pay the devil his due for what was done Down Blood Holler Way There was po-po standing all around, a big black tarp lying on the ground. And an ambulance. Donahue was talkin' at me, he said; "Lucius, stay here with Jimmy Lee, keep him behind the fence." He walked over to the big tarp, he took it in his hands, and slowly pulled it away. God, he pulled it away. Lying there just like they was only asleep, except for all the blood, lay my two little boys. They had both been slain. Repeat chorus Down to the Methodist church, the pastor says; "Lord... save the children." When I saw my boys there under that tarp, it brought the madness down on me. Why do children have to bleed? solo Repeat chorus Down Blood Holler Way.... Down Blood Holler Way... segue out.
  3. Welcome To The Abattoir

Okay, y'all, what most of you probably don't know is that I used to write music for and perform with a few progressive metal bands in the mid-80's - 91 or so. I found some old recordings sitting around on one of my hard-drives and thought I'd make an attempt at mastering (one song for now). I can't do much about the mix, which was done in November of 1988, but I'm just wondering if the mastering job I did sounds okay. I'm no mastering engineer, but it does sound better than the original mix, I think, so I guess that's a step in the right direction. Thoughts? https://soundcloud.com/steve-mueske/welcome-to-the-abattoir
