  1. And now ladies and gentlemen, just in time for Christmas: the best breakup song ever! I was hoping I'd be posting the best song I ever wrote about now, but it ended up being something that nobody liked. Back to the drawing board. . . . DON’T THINK TWICE, IT'S ALL RIGHT (By Bob Dylan - 1963) Well it ain't no use to sit and wonder why babe If you don't know by now And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why babe It'll never do somehow When the rooster crows at the break of dawn Look out your window honey, I'll be gone You're the reason that I'm traveling on Don't think twice, it's all right And it ain't no use turning on your light babe The light I never know'd And it ain't no use turning on your light babe I'm on the dark side of the road But I wish there was something you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay But we never did too much talking anyway Don't think twice, it's all right So, it ain't no use in calling out my name gal Like you never done before And it ain't no use in calling out my name gal I can't hear you anymore I'm thinking, and wondering, walking down the road I once loved a woman, a child I'm told I give her my heart, but she wanted my soul Don't think twice, it's all right So long honey babe, Where I'm bound I can't tell Goodbye is much too good a word babe So I'll just say, "fair thee well" Now I ain't saying you treated me unkind You could've done better but, I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time Don't think twice, it's all right
  2. Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself. I am a songwriter, originally from California, but living in Iowa (USA) now for many years. I am a music lover, for sure, and for that reason writing songs seemed a natural extension of my interests. I am not much of a musician/performer. I play around on the piano and can write a score on the computer that is adequate for an arranger to get the drift of what I am trying to convey. I grew up in a musical family, with both grandmothers piano teachers, and one of them also a cellist. So classical music is in my DNA, as well as jazz, and retro rock (70s and earlier). I am a latecomer to country music, although I appreciate the mature emotional depth that country can unleash. I have also been a fan of serious sacred music and some popular music over the decades, especially musical theater. I started writing songs to put in a series of full-length musicals that I wrote, set in different decades in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. This gave me license to write songs in a variety of genres, for a variety of voices, duets, and ensembles. Many of those songs are stand-alone songs that I have since had recorded. I do not do my own recordings, but instead send my music to a studio in Nashville for arranging, performance, and recording. If you would like to listen to some of my music, here are links to my first two albums containing a variety of genres: pop, country, folk, blues, rock, and jazz.
  3. Howdy fellow songwriters!! Let's face it.. some of us are good with words, some are good with melodies/ arranging, &/ or generating memorable beats, and some have amazing vocal talent. As for "Dem der fancy words" I used in the tags, this is what I meant; though my own definitions might differ quite a bit from good ol' Mr. Webster (the guy who wrote one of the most famous dictionaries). Synergy: Not everyone is good at everything. The classical definition of synergy basically means that "The sum of the worth or value of the parts exceeds that of the whole." While I can create a half decent simple melody I suck at choosing the right "colorful" chords and counter-melodies necessary to produce great music. Likewise, my "skills" as a percussionist are laughable. Next.. Serendipity: Call it good fortune, luck.. whatever. Sometimes things work out to our advantage .. just because! And we don't even know why.. If we consider the odds of having more "good fortune" or even the possibility or probability of "having good stuff fall in our laps".. the chances of having this happen tend to increase when we work cooperatively on a project as a cooperative team or "think tank". Finally - synchronicity, or.. the way stuff fits together. Ever been working on a puzzle.. you've agonized where a piece goes for what seems like forever to you, just to have someone walk up and drop it EXACTLY where it needed to be?? Songwriting can be like that, whether you're composing or lyric authoring. Sometimes it's nice to have a 2nd (even a 3rd!) brain to create just the right lyric, beat, chord, hook, chord progression.. whatever. Besides, it's best to have a smaller piece of a BIG pie rather than a whole pie that is tiny, now isn't it? Let me know if you agree with this crazy, eclectic and creative olde pharte and want to give it a go on some projects with him. Looking forward to working with some of you amazing, great, imaginative, creative people - especially artists/ groups, composers, music producers and music arrangers. See y'all at the Grammies! <)8√D SWJ

  10. Hello, I'm Izzy! I have been playing guitar and singing for almost 5 years and have finally finished some of my own songs. My style is somewhere between folk and alternative, all acoustic at the moment but I plan to expand! They are all very stream of consciousness written so I am eager to see how people interpret them. Excited to hear all of your songs and share my thoughts!
  11. Hey guys! My name is Jesse James. I'm a musician living in Montreal. Glad to be on this forum as I live for and love music and the people that surround themselves with it!
  12. Hey there! My name is Jason, I'm currently 18 years old and from a little village in Germany. I call myself a singer-songwriter for about 2 years now. I started playing guitar with 15 (I think) and soon was busking with my friend who encouraged me to sing. Somehow this succeeded even though my confidence was quite non-existent. With the time, we started writing first songs together and officially formed the band "Black.Box". This lasted about a year or so, but soon we realized our differences; he was quite extroverted and almost longing for drama to write about (he did some badass things back then), while I was sorta busy with my own mind and made up worries from nothing. As you can imagine, worrying is no good way of living and I found myself on the edge of depression. I never slipped though.. thanks to my passion, making music. So then, after I finished school and got rid of all the pressure, I got a girlfriend and life felt finally great again. But the drawback was, I was "dry" so to speak. Not a single line written in over 2 months(!). During that time I still was doing music though, taking lessons for guitar and singing and making videos for my YouTube Channel JasonINero, but still I never had such a blockade before, and for me there was no way explaining this but that being happy wont bring me inspiration. That's a hard way to put it I and surely I don't want to think this way. For me a journey started, looking for inspiration all around me. I got in contact with myself again, found new ways to express myself and bring emotions to paper but also worries started to form again, yet this time I know where I'm heading and I'm ready.. The moment when a person has tears in the eyes because of something I wrote, play and sang - that's what I'm living for! Well now here I am, I love singing, playing guitar and writing songs. With my membership here on songstuff, I'd like to share some lyrics, give and get feedback, discover new artists but most of all: learn. Because what's life without learning and striving for true greatness? And by that I mean, being the best me I can be. My main inspirations and influences right now are: Ben Howard, James Bay, Allman Brown, JP Cooper, Vance Joy, Jaymes Young, Johnny Flynn, etc... x JasonINero
  13. Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and I'm curious about what is going to bring me and what I can give back to others. Here's a song I recorded, and I'm hoping you could critique it. And I hope you like it of course! https://soundcloud.com/kwintmusic/blossom
  14. Hi guys, it's been a long long time since I posted here. This is a new project, first track completed yesterday. I co-wrote this with Jay Brown. 16. Hello! Jes here, born in Russia, grew up in the US, masters in the UK, trained singer, horrible guitarist... so looking for a guitarist/pianist/whoever to collaborate writing some music with, potentially recording or doing some open mics, relaxed stuff! Of course I am open to more serious collaborations if both parties are interested I would describe my style as something like The Staves, Civil Wars, Ben Howard, Rachel Sermani. I can write lyrics and melodies very easily but hopeless with writing instrumentals... if you'd like some samples of work I did in the past with a guitarist in Glasgow, have a soundcloud peek: www.soundcloud.com/jesfarrell Again- looking for someone local in Köln to collaborate with! xxx

The first one is a full length, full band LP called Pixelated Nonsense: http://dantematas.bandcamp.com/album/pixelated-nonsense And the second is a mellow acoustic EP called More Lost Than You: http://dantematas.bandcamp.com/album/more-lost-than-you I also just finished a series of professionally-shot live videos for a bunch of those songs: http://www.youtube.com/user/dantematas?feature=mhee Anyway, let me know what you think! That's how musical communities are formed anyway isn't it? Thanks!
  24. I picked up my new (old) guitar at the Guitar Workshop and strummed it a few times and felt great about the new strings and adjustments and excited once again about playing and developing some new songs. These silk and steel strings sound great and with this 3/4 guitar I can recover the standard C chord. As someone, said,"The C chord's pretty important." You can tell by now that I am not a great guitar player; I am a lyricist and singer. Yet, I love to play guitar, when I can make it sound decent. My style is country-folk-blues, the themes of my songs are social justice, poverty-homelessness, nature, relationships, spirituality, personal growth. I was born and raised in the South, but also lived in New England 20 years. So I have been exposed to a variety of styles and mental sets. In addition to songwriting, I write prose-poetry and essays on creativity, personal growth and politics. I love a variety of musical artists, country, rock, blues, etc. Lately, I have been playing a lot of Bon Jovi. I went through a strong Ronnie Van Zant phase a few years ago. There are certain songs I latch on to and play over and over till the CD wears out, like "Collide," by Howie Day,"It's My Life," by Bon Jovi, "Born to Run," by Springsteen. There is a saying by Pat Conroy,"Without music, life is a journey through a desert." I subscribe to that saying. Music keeps my spirit alive, when I feel like i am slowly dying inside. It provides an avenue for deep reflection on the past, as well exploration of the present and a way to envision the future. I love to play out at an open mic at a cafe in Hendersonville, North Carolina called the ugly mug/ This is a tiny venue. You play to maybe 20 people but some great artists show up. What makes it great is the diversity: folk, country, blues, bluegrass, rock. Mountain folk, Southern folk, black, white, young, old. The variety of people makes the setting dynamic. I play-sing originals and covers. As far as songwriting is concerned, I have about 50 songs. I have shared some of them at the ugly Mug, and plan share more. Some people regard performance at a small venue like that as trivial or insignificant. In my view, it is far from that. It's a magic time at the Ugly Mug on a Wednesday night. I am always looking for opportunities to collaborate with other songwriters. Strong lyrics, a good voice, not a great composer or guitar player--that's me. But I feel good about my work. And i believe in music.
  25. Hi, My name is Nick Thompson and I am a singer/songwriter. I just finished a DEMO version of my new album "Listen For A Sound" and wanted to get some feedback before I re-cut the tracks in the studio. I am looking for feedback on the songs and production. ALSO PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that the drums are programmed drums and I will have a real drummer recorded for the final album version and the mixes are REALLY ROUGH. Be honest and critical if need be. I have thick skin so it won't bother me. LINK TO MUSIC: https://soundcloud.com/nick-thompson-music Thanks everyone!
