  1. Hi all.. inspired by HoboSage's recent video posts, I decided to try one for the latest song I am working on. It is made in Adobe Spark on the iPad. Hope you enjoy.... this is just a bit of fun.
  2. Hey everyone, Been working on recording an EP for quite some time now to little avail so decided to finally get things into gear and tried doing it myself instead. I'm aware that some timing, phrasing, and pitching is a bit off, and production value is pretty low quality in general since it's just a quick do-up on my home equipment, nothing special (will probably just use it as a demo to get recorded better elsewhere), but would love any and all feedback, especially regarding the song! https://soundcloud.com/joshmaier/home-demo-1/s-lk3OE Thanks in advance, lemme know your thoughts and hope you enjoy! c: Lyrics: Verse 1 Should I walk through the door Into the streets outside Carve a way between the clouds Across the midnight sky We'll leave it all behind Forget about those summer nights When the sweat poured off our skin Before the dawn brought new life Verse 2 Staring out into black Wonder if we go back What could we become? Hearts pound in our chests All those little secrets We'll never lay to rest Chorus Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home? Bridge Saw that light crash against the wall Held your hand through it all As the impact hits my skin Heard your voice, through the room it called Out my name as we fall Through the howling of the wind Chorus Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home? [How could you ever call this home?] Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home?
  3. So this is a instrumental demo I made that I think I'm going to use for the intro to my EP. As you may hear in part of the song, my 2 year old came into my studio area while I was recording, but her voice sounded so pure with the song that I decided to just keep it. Thanks for the feedback! https://www.youtube.com/embed/vxfmEqZWD90
  4. Is this the right pleace to post this? Did record this song/demo at home (on a Boss BR600). Just two guitars and the vocals. It is not ment to be a perfect demo just a recording to get/give an impression about what the song could become (Idea for a song). I would appreciate some feedback. What do you think of what I have so far? Thanks in advance Roll the dice: Let’s roll the dice, let the game begin. What are the changes, to lose again. If this is what you’re living for, If this is what you’re longing for. No one said it would be easy, but it might be worth trying. For there may never be a time like this again (bay). And you may never get a chance like this again. For you may never feel alive like this again (bay). And the clock keeps ticking… Let’s roll the dice, double our lost bet. Let’s grab that last chance, before we go to sleep. And in the morning we’ll start over, and try it all again. No one said it would be easy, but it might be worth trying. For there may never be a time like this again (bay). And we may never get a chance like this again. For we may never be alive like this again (bay). And the clock keeps ticking…
  5. Updated 9 JUN 2016 Updated the link with another version of the song with a cello+piano arrangement. It was a collaboration with a cello player from North Eastern India. Beautiful musician named Adiel. Thought I'll update it here. Glad to be back on this side of the forum. [Update 23 Dec 2015] Finally, another new recording. Took the song up a semi-tone higher, made a small change in the lyric and left some space for the string section to come in the end. This is still a demo recording but hey, I can learn things out of it by treating it like a studio track. A lot of my friends have found a liking to this song and the title "Sleep" has kinda stuck. Oh well lol ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've got an update for the two songs I posted a while back but then this popped out of nowhere yesterday. Thought I'll sit with it and make it solid while the idea is fresh in my mind. It's a lullaby for a baby inspired from a very adorable one that I know of. Just a rough track. Sleep Sleep, close your eyes, pick a dream Let your heart discover a world like no other You're free to roam and to know no defeat Don't cry, don't cry We'll find our place and chase away All of our worries and wait for the day To shine on our faces, make no mistake when I say Sleep, I'll keep you warm in my arms While you take your chances in all your adventures This world is blind to the colors that you see Don't cry, don't cry We'll find our place and chase away All of our worries and wait for the day To shine on our faces, make no mistake when I say sleep [possibly an instrumental string section with verse chord progression] We'll find our place and chase away All of our worries and wait for the day To shine on our faces, and this melody will stay while you sleep
  6. Hello, last week I started working on a new Song. The Song was recorded "highly professional" in my Bedroom so please don´t mind the quality. I wrote the Lyrics and the Music. You can clearly see and hear that I am not a native speaker.. BUT... at least it´s authentic. I wrote the Lyric myself because I felt like there was something on my mind, I wanted to say or more, trying to express. it makes perfectly sence for me, don´t know if it does for you.. Thank your for listening and giving feedback Martin p.s.: Please use headphone´s "Lay your weapons down" (Demo - Bedroom Sessions) Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay 'em down Her father died in war, hunted down like a fox While politicians in suits have their summit talks Drink Champagne and shake hands, so they can´t feel her fear Agreed to build a fence and meet again next year We look for superstars on radio stations With millions on the run, in other nations Hear the cries, hear the cries, of those who´re on their way They may not reach the land, where they hoped to stay Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay 'em down Religion got abused by some fanatic guys Too many to blame, they are on both sides An Alliance dropping bombs in so called air defence and let the people starve, on the boarder fence There´s murder, rape, abuse, people on the run Most of them hunted down by men with guns Those who speak out their minds awaits a long nightmare Of torture and swords until they dance on air Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay 'em down Solders entered her town, left it in dust and flames With brave hero´s eyes, „just one death is to claim“ A woman on her knees, cries out „What have you done This one man you just killed, was my only son" Is this war game the right way to bring the world peace is it what we call, the world´s greatest desease The girl speaks out her mind „this world shall be ours Let weapons be replaced, by beautiful flowers“ When will there be peace on earth? I had a dream, a world in peace Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay your weapons down Lay 'em down
  7. This is a song that started as a silly joke between me and my ballerina daughter and morphed into something I hope is more meaningful. It's been through a few variations and I'm hoping I'm finally closing in on something that works. Idea one was to go into an extended coda off the second chorus, but I felt like it lost some of the whimsy that appealed to me in the first place. Idea two dropped the coda, extended the second chorus and just ended there, but it felt like it wasn't quite complete. Which leads me to posting Idea three. It splices a bridge and solo in after C2, with a shorter version of the extended final chorus. It uses the same acoustic/vocal demo that the earlier versions were built around, with a minimal amount of layering to get the idea across. Specific questions: Does the bridge work? If not, what isn't working? Can I just go back to the version without a bridge? I'm ambivalent about the last line of the bridge, so any feedback there would be much appreciated. Thanks! EDIT: The song is undergoing a metamorphosis, so I'm taking down the mix until the update is completed. V1 She’s got pimples on her nose Ballet blisters on her toes Her mother says, "that’s just how life goes" V2 Dinner time, sit up straight Frozen fishsticks on her plate Her mother screams, “we’re running late.... get in the car!" C No it doesn't pay for her to cry So she takes it all in stride That's how a kid gets by In suburban life V3 Her brothers barge into her room Steal her backpack and her shoes Her mother sighs, “What do you want me to do?” C No it doesn't pay for her to cry So she takes it all in stride That's how a kid gets by... B Stand back world It's only a matter of time You can't keep this girl From taking to the sky C It doesn't pay for her to cry So she takes it all in stride That's how a kid gets by... That's how this kid gets by Suburban Life
  8. Hi all, just a bit of fun but open to critique if you have any suggestions. Bryan if you read this its the happy song I said I would post to get you out of your darker lyrical phase lol! Hope you enjoy and my rendition is not the best but enjoyed trying as usual. I heard the intro as a crowd repeating each line after the singer. Be Happy ©Les Service 2015 Intro Today is gonna be a good day Nothings gonna bring me down Good things are coming my way Gonna wear a smile and not a frown C And be happy I won’t be sad Get happy I won’t get mad Wear a smile all day Keep my blues at bay Be happy happy happy as I can V Woke up this morning with a smile on my face The sun was shining in a - sky of blue Feels good to be apart of the human race I hope that you can feel it too C And be happy Don’t be sad Get happy Don’t get mad Wear a smile all day Keep the blues at bay Be happy happy happy as you can B Uplifting happy musical bridge V I can't explain why I feel so alive There must be something - in the air Got a good feeling yeah a positive vibe I hope it's a feeling you can share C And be happy Don’t be sad Get happy Don’t get mad Wear a smile all day Keep the blues at bay Be happy happy happy as you can Outro More uplifting happy music interspersed with “Be happy” “Don’t be sad” to fade https://soundcloud.com/skin-13/be-happy/s-KOkcO
  9. This is my last demo for 2014. The song is called "Too Good To Be Forgot". I wrote this song about growing, and the memories that will never be forgotten. Hopefully it will be relatable to everyone who listens. We kind of went somewhere between Texas country and the Tom Petty realm for this recording. I hope you all like it! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13004060
  10. Hi Songstuff My friend and I have been writing songs over the past year and have decided to now step out and start gigging and find a bass player. Thing is every person we have messaged has not replied. Even if they message us first saying hey send us some links. Its frustrating because we don't know what we are doing wrong and no one will tell us! Here's the songs. Two acoustic, two made up on garageband. They are a work in progress but we want a potential bass player to listen and see where they are able to fit in and then create some demo's. We have 8 in total but here are the first half. https://soundcloud.com/thebandcalledthe Could someone please give it to us straight?
  11. Hi Guys Been playing with this for a week or so and wondered what your thoughts were? I have struggled with the 3rd verse wrote many variations to try and get it right. I like the 1st n 3rd line although open to ideas on them and any of the lyric of course, no holds barred say what you think please. I have added a link to my attempt at it but my phrasing is off (so is my singing lol!) and my guitar sucks but it gives an idea to how I hear it. I also screwed up the ending in the recording but my fingers were aching so I didn't do another one. Just getting back to practicing guitar. I hope you enjoy the read and listen. Cheers Les Is She Like Me-She’s Not Like Me Stopped off at my local for a cold one There she was sitting at the bar Hair tied back legs crossed so lady like I knew I hadn’t seen her here before I couldn’t help but stare at her pretty face Her eyes had a smile of their own I was wondering what she was doing here I wondered why she was all alone Is she like me, a lonely soul No good reason to hurry home To empty rooms without memories To another night spent on our own I waited for my moment to talk to her We sat chatting for a while She said she was waiting for a special friend I could see that in the way she smiled Her friend came in they rushed to warm embrace Not the normal kiss of two girls I realized then that they were lovers I knew I could’nt enter her world She’s not like me, not a lonely soul She has good reason to hurry home No empty rooms without memories She doesn’t spend her nights on her own Well I gave it a shot Guess it wasn’t my lucky day Maybe next time? Is she like me, No she’s not like me She has good reason to hurry home Is she like me, No she’s not like me She doesn’t spent, No she doesn’t spend, She doesn’t spend her nights on her own Is she like me, she’s not like me to fade https://soundcloud.com/skin-13/is-she-like-me-shes-not-like-1/s-v69BA
  12. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/long-lonely-ride-demo **Thank you to everyone for the feedback! I think I've got what I need for this one. Well, I've been playing this song out for a bit and it quickly turned into one of my favorites. I kept the recording very bare-bones... but I fear I may have made it too dreary and slow. Any suggestions? I like the lyrics (for the most part) Should I speed it up, or add something to it? Anything to make it better or more accessible Thanks for listening. -Michael Lyrics: In my mind is red mixed with green grey and blue fill out the scene on the road of never ending daylight sometimes I feel I've seen too much out on the road and out of touch close my eyes it'll be midnight no one told me it was this crazy on the outside no one told me life would be such a long and lonely ride down the road a little further there's a place I've never seen before I know its gonna hit me tomorrow sometimes I wish I had a place to call my own a woman to warm my bones and miss me when Im gone no one told me it was this crazy on the outside no one told me life would be such a long and lonely ride I dont wanna live just to forget I dont wanna die full of regret I dont wanna be here when the sun sets
  13. EDIT: I tried to apply all of the advice the best I could. Didn't redo any performances though.. just practicing mixing. Let me know what you think! Thanks! ------ Hey guys.. here is a song I wrote awhile back for a band but we really didn't play it out but once or twice. Any way, I made this demo at the time so I was thinking of rerecording it with all real instruments. This version is my acoustic with all midi backing. its kind of a downer song about addiction. Feel free to give any thoughts on anything at all as I will be reworking/writing/recording everything. I will probably tweak the lyrics some as well. Thanks guys!! Rock on!! https://soundcloud.com/vspacecave/wishitaway Wish it away Grab on Pull the spell off Drag me (I won’t) walk on my feet If I could wish it away If I could wish it away If I could wish it away, I would It’ll take awhile for me, It could take awhile I could never be Completely selfless and sane It was always easiest To masquerade in pain If I could wish it away If I could wish it away If I could wish it away, I would It’ll take awhile for me, It could take awhile It’ll take awhile for me, It could take awhile If I stay at this place, if I stay at this place I could lose everything, I could lose everyone And I’d never forgive I would never forget I would never forgive myself
  14. Hey you guys, I just wanted to share this little song I'm working on, I want to hear your impressons about this one. Please keep in mind that it's only a demo recording, and I am not a professional! Maybe one day https://soundcloud.com/jackhalkabar/dream-away-the-pain Thanks for your time!
  15. Hi everyone! Most of you probably don't remember me, but I used to post in the lyrics critique section. Anyways, my band and I finally got off our butts and recorded a few demos, so I'll share the one that I feel came out the best, but feel free to check out the others. Lyrics: She says she's not quite good enough. She says it's not alright... She's looking for an excuse again, Another way to lie. And will she tell the truth again? Or will she just pass time? She tries her best to hide her emotions and her life. She stays locked inside where it's safe to be tonight. It's not comforting, though nothing is anymore. Her mind's wandering... Wandering out and, (Away, away) Away from all of her nightmares. (Away, away) Away from all of her cold tears. (Away, away) Away from all of the hardship. (Away, away) Away from all of this bullshit. To them it's like any other day, For her she sees no light. She never wants to come back again. Nothing can change her mind. She fumbles for her keys, and the world still calls her out. A little faith can be just enough to bring you down. As she counts to three with her make-up streaking now. Her heart swells and bleeds as she tries to get, (Away, away) Away from all of her nightmares. (Away, away) Away from all of her cold tears. (Away, away) Away from all of the hardship. (Away, away) Away from all of this bullshit. (Away, away) Away from all of her nightmares. Away, away... (Away, away) Away from all of her nightmares. (Away, away) Away from all of her cold tears. (Away, away) Away from all of the hardship. (Away, away) Away from all of this bullshit. (Away, away) Away from all her ambitions. (Away, away) Away from all of her dreams. (Away, away) Away from all of her friends and, (Away, away) Away from everything. (Away, away) Away and gone... Please let me know what you think of the song and the lyrics since this is what one of our bands singles is probably going to be. The chord structure is pretty simple, with the verses using the vi-IV-I-V (C#m-A-B-E, all with an open e on the high e string to be exact) progression, pretty standard in pop and rock, but the lyrics are what I think are the focal point of the song. The song is about a girl suffering from depression and how her day to day life is so unbearable that even the simplest of things can seem like a struggle that weighs her down until she reaches a breaking point. It's about how even though others may not have it out for her, and even though she isn't alone, it feels as though she has nothing worth living for. Granted since it uses that progression, people will probably ignore the lyrics and just hum along to the familiar tune. With that aside, I feel I should also tell you what we used to record this, and no, it wasn't a toaster. We used a Samsung Galaxy S4, only slightly better than a toaster! Thanks for stopping by and listening to our demo, or reading the lyrics. I won't judge if you didn't want to hear my vocals ~Jess
  16. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/bricks-bones-demo-1 Hello everyone, Well, I've been sick at home for the past 2 days…so I decided to use the time to write and record something new. My vocal is a little weak, but I kinda like it. Anyway, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have on this (arrangement, mix, melody, lyrics) Thanks! -Michael Lyrics: I don't mind watching the time fly in the arms of the one I love I don't mind watching the lights die when I'm all alone I don't mind chasing down a dream keep my head, stand straight and tall I don't mind breaking my own plans when it all goes wrong Chorus: sticks and stones, honey bricks and bones, now I know its time to move along I don't mind keeping my mouth shut even when I know the truth I don't mind keeping my eyes wide to my disappearing youth Chorus:
  17. **The Track is private, so you'll have to click the link Hey guys, I haven't had much time to record any new songs in the past few months, but I sat down and wrote this new one today and wanted to do a quick live recording of it. It's pretty short, and I'm looking to fully produce this one at some point. Im open to any ideas and feedback would be much appreciated (lyrics/melody/structure) Thanks everyone! -Michael Lyrics: Oh I'm losing touch I'm losing my grip on these things oh I can see it now, in your eyes you're losing faith in me Chorus: Just like radio and your favorite shows I'm bound to let you down just like radio I hope you don't forget me now Put that dress on honey lets go dancing again Oh I used to walk right beside you now i found my way under your skin Chorus: Just like radio and your favorite shows I'm bound to let you down just like radio i hope you don't forget me now
  18. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/waiting-on-a-war-mastered **Updated Version** I added a small bridge, and another chorus. Still not sure if i like it or not Hello Everyone, I squeezed in some recording time today, and this is what I came out with. It's not done, and it needs an outro…any suggestions for that would be welcome. Anyway, please let me know what you think about it (lyrics/melody/structure/mix) Thanks a lot! -Michael Lyrics: Does it kill you does it bring you down does it keep you up knowing it comes around and the softest touch can be the hardest part and the saddest song heading straight for your heart when you're waiting on a war is your mind right is your heart turning cold could you scream out loud just to let it all go and the pain comes but you laugh instead and lullabies dance around in your head when you're waiting on a war
  19. Hey folks, This is a rework of a song I posted once before, but It's so different I didn't post it in the same feed. It's a 1+1 but if it works out i'd like to do more with it in the future. See what you think. Don't hold back on the comments please. https://soundcloud.com/spadanny/ring-a-bell New Version https://soundcloud.com/spadanny/ring-a-bell-1 How do you do? It's nice to meet you. or have we met? I think not yet. Just now, somehow, out of the blue You ring a bell. Do I know you well? You ring a bell where I'm standing You ring a bell. Do I know you well? Cause you ring a bell in my heart It's such a f*cked up night you give a lovely light that brings to mind a long forgotton time that never happened but it might You ring a bell. Do I know you well? You ring a bell where I'm standing You ring a bell. Do I know you well? Cause you ring a bell in my heart
  20. Apologies for the weak guitar and vocals, I am both recovering from a sprained wrist and have essentially no recording setup / editing software. Articulate Fears The sheets do scratch, So I sleep on the floor. The sky does swirl, So I stay indoors. My friends don't talk, So I don't listen, And I have the nerve To wonder what I'm missing. Just where will I hide my fear today? In a box below the TV, or are the woods okay? I need somewhere to put my fears away. Can you hold them for me, dear? You treat them better, anyway. We all have doubts, So I read until I construct my view, And argue still. These men do die, Though I'm far above it, And I have the nerve To call that social justice. Just where will I hide my fear today? In a box below the TV, or are the woods okay? I need somewhere to put my fears away. Can you hold them for me, dear? You treat them better, anyway.
  21. Hello everyone, I was looking for some feedback on a new song I wrote and recorded this week. It's in a rough mix stage right now but the song is there. Just wanted to hear any thoughts from anyone here before moving on with it. Thanks in advance and as always just be honest "A New Dawn" I wait for a new dawn Pray for a new dawn A new dawn to rise and rise it will. Please give me new days to sway my heart still Sing for me songbird Sing for me songbird Sing all of my weary blues away. Sing for the sunrise Sing for the new day Sing all of my blues away Sing all of my blues away I wont speak for sages cause most days I'm faded But there's a few things in this world that I've been taught: A fools fight is fatal and true love can't be bought. I've been here for ages Just breaking cages Waiting for a songbird to fly my way and sing songs of freedom So I can sing with them. Sing all of my blues away Sing all of my blues away Sing for the sunrise Sing for the new day Sing for the sunrise Sing for a new dawn. https://soundcloud.com/nick-thompson-music/a-new-dawn
  22. https://soundcloud.com/pseudonameband/close-down-the-town-7-16-14-1119-pm-demo I was recording guitar one day and stumbled upon an idea that came together pretty quickly. I think I wrote and recorded the demo of this song in about two hours. It has no bass yet, but I'm looking for some feedback on the song itself. It's really intended to be something up beat that we can play live. Wanted to keep it simple and poppy. Hopefully the final version will wind up a bit more alt-countryish. LYRICS: Don't turn the light out on my dreams I haven't finished my last drink Baby the last call comes too soon Let's raise some hell under the moon I've got a bottle outside and a six string Baby I'll make you a song and a mixed drink and we can go anywhere we wanna go Baby I'll show you a night out on the town We come alive right after the bars close down and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be... than closing down this town with you I see the flashing neon lights fading behind us as we leave that place behind If nothing good happens after midnight Then why are you out here, rollin' with me tonight I've got a bottle outside and a six string Baby I'll make you a song and a mixed drink and we can go anywhere we wanna go Baby I'll show you a night out on the town We come alive right after the bars close down and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be I could be chasing girls with the boys tonight Drinking Bud Light 'til I feel alright But I'm here with you, but i'm here with you Got me on a high that I'll never forget and it's way to early now to go home yet So what's it gonna be, what's it gonna be
  23. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/wrong-end-of-a-gun-demo Hello everyone, I guess I've been in a writing mood lately. This is a 1+1 demo that I wrote and recorded last night. Trying to stick with the Midwest theme. Anyway, any and all feedback is appreciated (Lyrics/performance/mix/style). Also, thanks to everyone that gave me some great feedback on my last one. I'm re-working that one with your suggestions. Thanks guys! -Michael Lyrics: I was born in West Virginia But Kentucky is my home the bluegrass never steered me wrong My momma told me there son, life aint ever fair you gotta take your chances when they come along Chorus: She said run baby run run darling run don't find yourself on the wrong end of a gun I was brighter than the sun I was called the lucky one til I robbed a train in Kansas for the thrill it took 17 years for them to find me here I can hear those words echoing still Chorus oh the things you do the things you do come back to you Chorus
  24. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/leave-me-the-road-demo Hello all! I finally got my studio put back together so I recorded a quick demo tonight. I wrote this song pretty quick so it may need some work. I really have no idea what I'm going to do with this song (I'd love to hear someone else singing and playing this), but I'd like to hear any and all feedback on the music/lyrics/mix/structure. Any help at all would be great! This is very much a demo, so it may not sound very polished right now. Thanks in advance, everyone! -Michael Lyrics: I've been down this road a hundred times and the windshield sees a world passing by God, I'll keep faith on my side Just leave me the road and I'll be alright Ive been pushed and pulled Ive been let down Heard a lover's voice remembered the sound and I carve me out a little slice Just leave me the road and I'll be alright Twist and turn for awhile Twist and turn the hands of time The friends I knew Did they forget my name? The girls I loved Do they still look the same? I couldn't choose a stranger life Just leave me the road and I'll be alright
  25. Hey everyone, Thanks for taking the time to listen and review this song! This one was written unlike any of my others. Usually I write in a methodical way with chords and then lyrics, all very structured. With this song, I kind of just sat down at the piano, started playing a little something, and this came out. Let me know what you guys think! Link and lyrics below. https://soundcloud.com/michael-venturiello/let-live Verse: Live and let live, accept and forgive. The heart is a window filled with so much opportunity. Keep moving on, I know that you're strong. The heart is a doorway filled with love and so much more than this. Chorus: But I know the heart and it never forgets, Regrets of yesterday don't stay. Verse: Love you who are, and you'll be who you love. The heart is a lover, though it hides in it's own disguise, it cries. Chorus Live, let live, accept, forgive, love.
