  1. Hi all you songwriters and songwritingcritiquers and chameleons and people as well. Have you ever been approached by an old man on the street who told you his life story without much prompting from your side of the conversation? Then you'll know how I feel when I tell you that I like tea, because you probably like tea too. That reminds me; why do anarchists drink herbal tea? The answer, like the answer to most questions, is simpler than you're thinking: it's because all proper tea is theft. I'm sure it seems to you like I've been rambling without any direction or goal, but it's all in fact led to this- me reaching behind your ear and pulling out a small hair. Is this yours? Pleased to meet you! My name's Bashu, like, really, for real, and my game is playing accordion in unexpected places and doing song-a-day challenges. Does anybody like those?
  2. Hello all! I'm a guitarist and I've been kinda on and off guitar for the last 12 years. I haven't really took it seriously until last year where I got really excited and tried to start from "scratch" (i'm sure i'm not alone in this). Anyway, to get me motivated I started a youtube channel which I would love to get everyone's opinion about (link down below). That's about it... Thanks! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP6hvdHmbVT-uW47oJEcFwA
  3. Hello everyone! Short greetings before the more elaborate introduction later.
  4. Hi, I'm new here. I'm curious to how this site works and looking forward to listening to people's songs and also getting critiques. Thanks.
  5. Hi, I'm RavenMan. I'm an amateur musician with a very wide range of interests (maybe too wide a range), encompassing most rock and metal, as well as some hip hop and funk-influenced stuff. I've been playing guitar for over a year, have tried my hand at writing guitar parts for some rock songs, and have published a couple electronic tracks under the alias of Mr. Corvus on SoundCloud and YouTube. Not sure quite what I'm looking for on this forum, probably just advice and maybe some feedback on my projects.
  6. Hi im stark a hobbyist who likes music ! Im working on a project with my friends we are trying to make a song and we got everything ready except for the lyrics so i came here looking for songwriters to help me complete my goal.
  7. Allie

    Hello

Hello there! My name is Allie. I am 17 and I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I don't know any technicalities about writing songs or anything, but I write a couple of songs a week and I would love to get some critique. I only want to improve. I don't what else to say really.. I hope you're all having a lovely day. -Allie
  8. Hello. My name is Tarjei Skarlund. Born in Ålesund but now i live in Stavanger South-west of norway. I used to be a professional beach volleyball player, played both the Beijing and London Olympics. But i stopped after that because of family. now i work as a procect controller in an oil based company I always loved to sing and i use my guitar alongside that. But my skills on the guitar are limited but enough to carry support the singing. The last year i have found a room in my house and built a small home studio. I use Apollo twin solo, Mac mini and dynaudio bm5a mkii audio technika at4040 condensor mic and Shure sm57 And i use logic x I love music as foo fighters and biffy clyro, white stripes, red hot chili peppers and much more I mostly want to make rock music but sometimes a slow melodic ballad is fun too. Sorry for all the writing mistakes. F...ckin dictionary on the iPad I am interested in collaboration so, but my time is limited :-)
  9. Hi everyone, I'm new here but not new to music. I've been writing songs seriously for about 8 years and I'm looking to help others as well as get help. Additionally, I am a musician and record my songs as if a band were playing them. Since I do this all the arranging myself, this sometimes leads to more predictive arrangements. My goal for the year is to release one new song per month.but I want them to be great songs, not just any song. I've got tons of songs I've written that will never see the light of day but I'm working to be more purposeful with each new song. My music is available through a variety of forums such as soundcloud, reverbnation, etc, but you can always listen to my latest music at http://www.franssongs.com. Thanks in advance for everyones help and comments in the future. Fran
  10. Hi all!! So please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste... Well, not really (at least the wealth part). So what can I say about myself? I'm a singer/songwriter, and I've been involved in music for over a decade, mostly playing in several bands. I have over 150 songs written, and now I feel its time to try to take my songs to the next level, both songwriting and comercial/exposure-wise. My musical tastes revolve mostly around pop (understanding pop as well crafted, structured songs, with great melodies and hooks). So rock/pop, country/pop, latin/pop, etc. are all right up my alley. I've been lurking around these forums for quite some time, and finally today I summed up the courage to join. I'm here basically to talk music, meet other songwriters, get feedback on my songs, and hopefully collaborate with some of the great musicians here. So, nice to meet y'all, thanks for having me!
  11. Hello everyone So this is my 1st post (: I am a Jazz lover living in Los Angeles. My favorite artists are : Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Cheryl D Barnes and Michel Petrucciani
  12. I don't know whether to just jump right in with whats going on, or make a topic in another thread specific to my questions, so I will just put the basics here. I used to be in a band about 20 years ago. I played synthesizer. So recently I have just been itching to play again, with the plan of just working at home to see if I could put stuff together electronically, without the drama and bull that comes with working with a bunch of creative types that cannot get along. So I saw an ad for a nice affordable little synth that was way more powerful than anything I had, and that made the decision for me. So it showed up, and i started toying with it, and I was off. It came with Ableton live 9 (lite which is working for now as a way to learn and get started) and every day I am more amazed by that software. So here is the problem, I have created one piece, what it has turned into is not what it started out to be, at first it was going to be mainstream, or I wanted it to be, but like authors say, "the story wrote itself"and I was just along for the ride. I am sure it is becoming what it is supposed to be, I am pretty sure of that. Back to the problem, I need some constructive criticism, and I can't get anyone to listen to it and tell me what they really think, I think they don't want to hurt my feelings or something. So please, can some one listen to this and tell me anything you think, good or bad. Oh like I say it started out mainstream, I think it is changing to like a scene music piece for TV or movie, I have no idea https://soundcloud.com/kaalypso
  13. Hello my name is Kyle. I am 20 years old and I like music. I especially enjoy playing the piano. I started teaching myself how to play in middle school and still continue to play even to this day. I have spent countless hours playing the piano, because it is so much fun. I can play songs from the radio and movies by playing the melody and some chords as well. I mostly spend my time on the piano composing my own music, but I don't perform on stage or anything like that except for a talent show once. I'm joining this forum, because maybe all you people can help me bring my music abilities to the next level. What I typically do when composing a song is I come up with a melody then make chords and/or a harmony to go with it. It usually sounds good, but I have no way of writing it down, because well... I can't read/write music. So I memorize the songs I make or record them. The melodies I can make are very good. My harmonies and other things are only okay/boring though. I actually know a little bit of music theory from browsing around online and reading books. Like chord groups C, G, and F. I know some scales. I also am aware of that wheel thing. However, there is a lot of other stuff I don't know. I struggle with keeping a steady beat with counting. Okay... it is not like I have no rhythm, but sometimes people who are listening to my music will be like "the music is good, but the beat keeps changing." Even when composing sometimes it is a pain in the ass trying to find the chords I want and then I either forget what I wanted or end up going with a mediocre chord that doesn't sound like what I want. The fingering I use for playing the piano is bad. I don't know what it is suppose to look like, but the way I'm doing it probably isn't the correct way. When I say i can't read sheet music, I actually mean I can't read and play. I know about Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge and Great Big Dreams For America. I would look at the note, find where it is, look down at the piano, push that note, look back up for the next note and repeat the process. I built flash cards to help me read better, but it didn't help me. I think one of my strengths is making good melodies. I can make very good catchy melodies. I don't know if that is something every musician does well, because I've heard some crappy songs that almost sounded like it wanted to sound terrible. This partially inspires me (yeah kind of deushy getting inspired by other's horrible sounding music, but I can't help it). If song writing was all about melodies then I would be an amazing songwriter. Unfortunately my harmonies and chord background stuff don't always fit and so it screws up everything. I also want to know how people can do all this crap with drums and make their music sound good. they add all these bunch of instruments and know that they will sound good with each other. I mean, yeah they are in the same key and hop around the root note, but still. Sometimes I think of how an instrument should sound in my head in a song I'm making and I can't find the instrument or it doesn't sound like how I thought it would together. I may play around with something on garage band where bass drum hits on 1 and 3 while snare hits on 2 and 4 while hi-hat hits all 4 and the in-betweens too. Sounds okay, but if I add that to any of my piano music it will sound iffy. Oh, I can also sing quite well. A lot of songs require you to sing a tenor range which I can't hit unless I am singing in falsetto. I can sing a D2 on a good day and a G4 on a good day. I may have hit A4, before, but not really sure. When I'm at the end of my ranges they don't sound really good so it is more like E2 to E4 or something like that. The higher notes don't sound so clean. So if I were to sing "mmm wathcya sayyyy" I could do it well. If I were to sing "Some Nights" it might be too hard. With "Hey soul Sister", yeah I might as well sing that an octave lower, because that is mega high. I can do vocal impersonations of lots of people singing or not. I can sing exactly like Kermit the frog which is pretty cool. I also want to learn how to play the guitar and other cool instruments So yeah that is the end of my musicness summary. It was longer than I intended it to be sorry. But I'm not going to delete it, because I actually took awhile writing it lol.

    Hello

I am a rap lyricist and I am looking forward to all critiques from you guys. I'll be posting lyrics shortly.
  15. Hi, I'm a electronica artist living in the UK. I've not signed to anyone or had any songs mastered, but I was hoping to meet good people who would like to help me on my journey. I compose my own tunes and have uploaded some on YouTube. One of them has over 450,000 hits. I'm looking to create music for the lounge / electronica scene. Influences are Jean Michel Jarre, Moby, Air, DaftPunk, Grace Jones, to name a few, but I find myself being influenced a lot by French music. I would love feedback on any of my music, and I would also like to meet people to try and give my constructive feedback. Its raining nearly every day here at the moment, but my music keeps me happy through these days... I would love it if I could meet a producer, other songwriters, singers to help complete my music, and also create new songs. Hope to hear from anyone soon.. Kev
  16. Hi Everyone, My name is Amy. I am a lyric writer, but I have no musical talent and need a cowriter for my melodies. I have songs in country, Christian and pop catagories. I am looking to meet other songwriters and possibly a co-writer for my lyrics.
  17. Hi guys! I've been quietly following songstuff for a few months now but have been hesitant to make a post; but now I think it's time I jump in :-) I am a medical student in Singapore, and I've enjoyed music and dance for as long as I can remember. I started with training in Indian carnatic vocal and classical dance (bharatanatyam) when I was 6, and western classical piano a few years ago. Did violin for about a year but stopped when schoolwork became too much. I've also been putting up mini amateur musicals with my cousins for New Year's every year at grandma's, so that's me writing songs, script, making props, and getting 10 cousins together for practices each year - it's so much fun. After starting with songs for the musicals I began to write songs on a more personal front, which I plan to keep up for the rest of my life as a hobby. Music keeps me sane. Writing vocal melodies is my forte, I believe. Lyrics are difficult for me even if I feel strongly about something, and instrumental arrangement is the worst (I can only jam simple chords on the piano and guitar, not complex textures). When I write songs I almost always focus on the melody which means I sometimes produce terrible lyrics - so if anyone is interested in collaborating with me for lyrics/arrangement/singing then I'd be more than willing! Except I must make it clear that I have no intention whatsoever of going commercial or pitching my songs to any companies, because I like to keep my music personal and intimate... Lastly, I will post a link to my soundcloud once I have more stuff up there - most of my songs I have crappily recorded on my phone or computer or something so I haven't posted them up, but I may work on getting them recorded on my iPad instead sometime soon So, hello once again and it is nice to meet you all! Yours sincerely, squarks PS. If you are interested in the musical I did with my cousins last year (it's not Broadway!):
  18. Well there isnt really much to say. I'm a senior in highschool. 17years old. I write lyrics. I love doing so. 19. Hello, I hate filling this things out I never know what to say. I write mostly as a means of therapy. Done it for years, I like to write lyrics but rarely sing and I can't write music. I've tried I'm not to good at it. I'm hoping maybe to improve what I write, maybe find someone who can play and I can work with if I'm lucky. So feel free to ask whatever questions you want.
