  2. I hear this song as kind of a country feel, with a driving beat. It's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but my girlfriends all love the concept of it. See what you think: “Just in Case” (Patty Lakamp) When love turns sideways and you’re feelin’ trapped A lack of cash can leave you handicapped Get some just-in-case money, just in case So you can buy your ticket out and start over again Your man keeps tellin’ you he’s workin’ late He’s dyein’ his hair and he’s losin’ weight Get some just-in-case money, just in case So you'll be the one lookin' good when you're makin' your break (Chorus) Just in case, just in case A woman needs her walkin’ money, just in case Stay in love if you can But play it smart and have a backup plan You need to make sure that you’ll be okay So take the time to plan your getaway Get some just-in-case money, just in case So you're not tied down to a life if you don't want to stay (Chorus) Just in case, just in case A woman needs her walkin’ money, just in case Stay in love if you can But play it smart and have a backup plan (Bridge) You need to invest for those times you detest Give yourself the latitude To grab your coat and hat-itude (Chorus) Just in case, just in case A woman needs her walkin’ money, just in case Stay in love if you can But play it smart and have a backup plan Patty Lakamp © Copyright 2017
  3. EXPLICIT I need to finish these and unleash 'em on a smurfy little karma-believing world. If anyone remembers industrial metal band Static-X from the turn of the millenium, that's the musical vibe I plan to write. Have at 'em. Tear 'em up. © 2016 Vara La Fey. I AM KARMA What comes around goes around, so they say You reap what you sow somehow, some day Pretty words to avoid the problem Pretty words to avoid the problem Last time you pulled the shit you pulled today they got all about karma and you got away Didn'tcha!! They said you're someone else's problem They said you're someone else's problem And now you're mine Mine all mine Ooooh baby I, I, I I am karma And I, I, I I'm a bitch Yeah the past said you'd get your due somehow so you darken my door in the here and now All your life you're someone else's problem All your life you're someone else's problem But your free ride stops at me today and the future doesn't want you anyway Nuh uh!! You're not someone else's problem You're not someone else's problem Because you're mine Mine all mine Too much fun I, I, I I am karma And I, I, I I'm a bitch Evil Evil wins Evil wins when the good.... ....do nothing Evil wins when the good do nothing Breeds like roaches when no justice coming Evil wins when the good do nothing Breeds like roaches when no justice coming So.... I'll be karma And.... I'm a bitch I, I, I I am karma I, I, I I am karma and I, I, I I'm a bitch!! I'm a bitch / I am karma I'm a bitch / I am karma I'm a bitch / I am karma I'm a bitch / I am karma I'M A BITCH!!
  4. PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR LATEST VERSION Hey all. Please have a read through and feel free to correct, advice, throw in alternatives, anything! Thank you. Passengers GER©2017 A1 The road was dark and slippery And the driver high on drugs It happened so quickly In the blink of an eye No regrets, no feelings But a crack in the sky A2 Smells and noises and flashing lights Lots of people running ‘round Confusing, disturbing What is going on? His body all messed up Is he really gone? B Oh, what a scene C Mind the ghost observing it all Upside down like a fly on the wall In between and far behind What is real is in your mind A3 Ashes to ashes, dust to dust So unreal, poor family It happened so quickly In the blink of an eye No regrets, no feelings But a crack in the sky C Mind the ghost observing it all Upside down like a fly on the wall In between and far behind What is real is in your mind D We are all passengers We are all passengers We are all passengers We are all passengers
  5. I'm Comin After You.( old style blues; slide guitar effort ) V1 I was born into a world full of darkness, full of pain, a world cold and lonely, a world quite insane. But you said that if I prayed to you Lord, you would set me free, so I gave it my best shot Lord hoping I might happy be. V2 But nothing in my life changed , in fact my life got worse, so you told me to pray harder to try and lift the curse. When they struck me with their whips lord you said turn the other cheek When they took away my pride lord you said blessed are the meek. V3 But they took away my money Lord, they took away my land. They took away the food that I had gathered with my hands And I could not feed my children, they lie dying at my feet, But you told me to keep praying and the angels I would meet. V4 So it's all been one way traffic Lord and this will make you sore, but I'm goin to pick a gun up and I'll even up the score. And when I've put them down Lord I've got one thing left to do, so you'd better star a runnin cos I'm comin after you . V5 It was you who taught me wrong lord, stopped me being a man. Taught me to how to bow down to the evil in the land. But hard times are comin your way Lord, I'm lookin out for me and when you meet me one last time pure evil you will see. I'm not goin to live forever lord and when my time is through' I'll be comin after justice, I'll be comin after you.
  6. New home recording. Idea for a song... The cure I’ve found a cure today…. I found a cure hip hip hooray Pass me another drink… fill my glass with laughter I found a cure toda-ay-ay. I wish that I could say I wish that I could say that The bar opens at 10 am. I’m five minutes late. Just another sweet o.n.s. kept me up all night. Now I’m running running behind The reason, it’s awful true, there is not a thing that I can do But pray and drink my pain awa-ay-ay I wish that I could say I wish that I could say that And the man from the Pharmaceutical company. A contract in his hand claiming all the rights. About life… and dead and what you're gonna pay for it. I wish that I could say I found a cure Hip hip hooray. Pass me another drink… fill my glass with laughter I found a cure toda-ay-ay. Hip hip hooray.
  7. Hey guys, just wrote this song. Let me know what you think! Can't really seem to come up with a good name for it either, I thought of calling it "Drunk", but that just sounds more like a party song to me. For now I've called it "Headaches" but feel free to suggest something else! Over and over againDown this bottle for helpBut time after timeThere's just none to findI'm so hungover from lifeknow these headaches better than my mindbut lately, I swear I will trybaby, just hold on for tonightCause my head hurts but my heart's worse Just give me a chance I'll fix it, after this dance But I feel drunk, when I sing this Cause it wont make sense, cause we don't I wake up like I'm deadYou're sitting on the bedDon't tell me thoughI already knowGot so drunk that I couldn't speakGuess the Jack just spoke for meTold you things I didn't meanNow you no longer speak to meAnd my head hurts but my heart's worse Just need one more chance After one last dance And I feel drunk, when I sing this Cause it won't make sense, cause we don't Baby, baby , pleaseIf I feel it, aint it real?Ooh Ooh baby pleaseNo, dont you leaveAm I drunk, when I sing this? Cause it don't make sense, cause we don't My head hurts My heart's worse You said no more chances And I'm still here dancing noooo, baby noSo danm drunk, when I sing this It won't make sense, cause we don't
  8. Hi, I'd love some feedback on this lyric. I've rewritten it a lot, and need some fresh eyes on it: “Girl Don’t Do It” (Patty Lakamp) There’s a secret I’ve been hiding This once I’ll lay it bare In the past when I was someone else I had an affair Now you’ve come to me for counsel Because you are where I was I’ve always loved you like a daughter And thank God I’ve earned your trust (Chorus) Girl don’t do it Find another way You'll live with this forever Think beyond today My confession is unnerving It still presents a threat But I fear you’re heading down the road To a lifetime of regret I can see you’re sorely tempted I’ll keep your confidence But you can’t hide secrets from yourself You’re the living evidence (Chorus) Girl don’t do it Find another way You'll live with this forever Think beyond today Here’s the fundamental question A lover or a wife? I chose not to be a woman who Carried on a double life So I keep this ugly secret I’m faithful to the core How will you answer the question That could haunt you evermore? (Chorus) Girl, don’t do it Find another way You'll live with this forever Think beyond today Patty Lakamp © Copyright 2017
  9. Hello, Again I haven't posted for a long while, life gets busy. These lyrics are about how someone can have a hold over you that they can control how you feel. I understand it needs some tweaks but your input would be greatly appreciated, thanks ''You Look Good Today'' Today I pray that you will be nice, I pray that you will be kind. You hold all the cards, If your hand is fine, then i'm fine. I'll dip my toe in the water, If its cold then I'll go. When the grey skies come, You'll be sure I know. Then I feel so low, So low I could give up. You say to me: You look good today I bloody love this beautiful calm You look good today. Please be nice all the time. You look good today. Suddenly the beams they shine. You look good today. Now you got me, With your sideways look, I feel so damn not good. I need you to cradle me Like a child, I crave you. But you flipped the penny, It landed on its head. I'm living on a fifty-fifty. And you, you make my bed. Then I feel so low, So low I could give up. You say to me: You look good today I bloody love this beautiful calm You look good today. Please be nice all the time. You look good today. Suddenly the beams they shine. You look good today. When the wind changes, one day i'll go. When the bruises fade, then i'll go. When I feel strong enough, but not right now. Your grip is too tight.
  10. Here's a song I have been working on lately. Let me know what you think would make it better. Thanks! Verse 1: Back’s against the wall and you are Nothing but a spectator Can’t drown out that self doubt, now Just relax and settle down, now Why did’ya come? Pre-chorus: They’re watching me, watching you, watch me They’re watching me, watching you, watch me Chorus: Bottle label princess in you Picked apart, in a sundress Verse 2: Building up your little castle As your bottle comes unraveled Walling out the spectators Can’t drown out that self-doubt, now Just relax and settle down, now Why did’ya come? Pre-chorus: They’re watching me, watching you, watch me They’re watching me, watching you, watch me Chorus: Beer bottle label princess in you Picked apart, in a sundress Verse 3: Looking out at all that you aren’t Clutching at your only comfort Nothing but a spectator Watching all the spectators Can’t drown out that self-doubt, now Just relax and settle down, now Why did’ya come? 11. How To Breathe Verse Feels like I've been drowning, alone in this great sea Pushed out for being different, by ideal society. It's like calls of raging thunder, somehow never ends People talk, they keep on talking But I ain't hearing them. (ohh) Chorus They try to tell me how to breathe With my head beneath the sea why do they never let me be can't they see I wanna be free Verse The smell of the salty waters, the feeling of flaccid skin. People I've never met have, tried hard to cave me in. My eyes grab hold of the shoreline, and for once I feel assured. Then comes a foggy forecast. to bring to me bruises and sores (ohhh) Chorus They try to tell me how to breathe With my head beneath the sea why do they never let me be can't they see i wanna be free This is all I've come up with so far, no bridge to it.

  13. Hi all. I've recorded a song, and would love to you guys' and gals' opinions on it. It's a rough mix, a bit out of balance especially in the coda. Please let me know what you think! 14. A Sad song inspired by my work in the hospital and my faith. This came after talking to a 90 year old man who was about to lose his wife. He didn't want to go on which is reflected in this song but after talking to him he realized it wasn't his choice and he had to go on. Watched my mother go through this as well. The lyrics came quickly as well as the melody. 63 years or has it been 64 I really can’t remember anymore holding her hand when they came through the door Telling me she isn’t here anymore I held her hand long and I sang her our song Her hand was so cold and it seemed so wrong I stood to go and I bowed my head to pray Take her away ..take her today Jesus take her hand Take her all the way to your promised land Where she will have no more pain Have no more fears Have no more needs And she’ll have no more tears Jesus take her home where she’ll never be alone Take her home today I pray Loneliness and sorrow Don’t make a good companion This place I’m in this pain I’m in I’m so tired I can’t go on without her I don’t want to go on with out her Take my hand today I pray Take me away Take me today Jesus take my hand Take me to your promised land Where i will have no pain Have no fear Have no needs And I’ll have no tears Jesus take me home…. I don’t want to live alone Take me home today... I pray Not my will be done but yours Can you help me make it through another day Is this a better way To live my life and when it is through I can call on you And say Jesus take my hand Take me all the way to your promised land Where I will have no more pain Have no more fears Have no more needs and I’ll have no more tears Jesus take me home Where I’ll never be alone And I won’t have to live another day without her No not without her Not another day songchristiandoccrax
  15. The Upside of Lonely Copyright © 2017 by L.C. Campbell V1 There’s an upside to lonely It seems to slow down time Hours never end And days drift slowly by When you give in to lonely It rises up inside Fills in all the spaces Where love used to reside Ch1 From the outside, looking in This ain’t no way to live But right now it gets me through So I’m going to hang onto The upside of lonely V2 Wrapped up in your memory There’s no need to play along Just going through the motions And always feeling wrong So I’m counting on lonely To fill me up inside To take up all the space Where love used to reside Ch From the outside, looking in This ain’t no way to live But right now it gets me through So I’m going to hang onto The upside of lonely Bridge Don’t want time to heal these wounds If healing means losing you Ch From the outside, looking in This ain’t no way to live But right now it gets me through So I’m going to hang onto The upside of lonely
  16. This one's been percolating a while. Sometimes the heart knows best . . . or does it? Comments and ideas are most welcome. Won’t Let Me Fall Too Far Copyright © 2017 by L.C. Campbell V1 I’ve taken my wrong turns I’ve taken those short cuts I’ve woken up all alone Not knowing which way was up I’ve given in too fast I’ve given away too much My heart learned its lesson I’m not safe to trust V2 I’m seeing clear now And my mind is made up This one feels different This could be the one Can almost touch the real thing Almost taste his sweet love But my heart just won’t let me Get close enough Ch1 He’s everything that I could ever want But I’ve been careless with my heart Now it won’t let me fall too far I swear this time is different I can feel it in his touch But I’ve been careless with my heart Now it won’t let me fall in love V3 He’s taken his wrong turns He’s taken those short cuts He’s tried to go it alone But he’s giving that up So I wanna go too fast I wanna give too much But my heart just won’t let me Take this chance on love Ch He’s everything that I could ever want But I’ve been careless with my heart Now it won’t let me fall too far I swear this time is different I can feel it in his touch But I’ve been careless with my heart Now it won’t let me fall in love
  17. Hey Everyone, I haven't been on here for a while, but I've been doing a good deal of songwriting and am excited to listen to some of your songs and write some critiques again. Any critiques of this song would be a great help! About my song, the mix isn't great and the vocal track needs some cleaning up (sorry for the mouth noises), but that stuff will come after it's fully written and recorded more carfully. I'm thinking I'll have a real drummer and bass player come in replace the programmed drums and my sketchy bass track, does that seem like a good idea or do you like what I have? Thanks! Lyrics: Bear in mind my shitty rhyme scheme Go ahead and say what you mean In my head my words don’t come off Nearly as first grade as they seem Cause I’ve been wasting my time And now I’m wasting your time, you’ll see Unrelenting words cementing My own elementary school dreams, what does it mean? I almost hope nobody listens Maybe then I’ll get off scot-free I doubt it but we’ll see Cause I’ve been wasting my time And now I’m wasting your time, you’ll see This is evidence that I've been wasting my time
  18. One of my all time favourite songwriting collaborations is that of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook - the founding members of UK band Squeeze. All the Squeeze hits were co-written by the pair - Chris writing the lyrics first and then Glenn composing the music. Chris has compared the moment he first hears Glenn's compositions as like opening his Christmas presents. I met Glenn Tilbrook last year and shook his hand which was a dream come true for me I'd be interested to know about other Songstuff members' all time favourites........and have you ever met them?

Leaning On A Lamppost Maybe I’m a little tipsy I’ve been drinking by myself again That’s when the lonely tears begin to flow Baby I miss you so And I took the bottle with me Didn't wanna burden all my friends Still hurting, and I just want you to know Baby I need you so Ch1 I'm leaning on a lamppost Down on Memory Lane Texting you While standing in the rain Leaning on a lamppost And I'm feeling no pain Asking you To take me back again People hold the door and ask me If I wouldn't like to step inside I say I’m waiting for someone to show Baby I can't let go But I see you looking happy While you're dancing with some other guy Don’t wanna start a fight so I'll just go Baby if you say so Ch2 I'm leaning on a lamppost Down on Memory Lane Texting you While standing in the rain Leaning on a lamppost And I'm feeling no pain Wishing you Would take me back again Br Looking in the windows Of the bar where we first met Never will forget The way your eyes matched your green dress When we were dancing on the floor And the sweet taste of your soft lips when we kissed Leaving me wanting more Ch2 More than just a little tipsy And my battery is almost gone Guess I should try to find my way back home Baby I feel so alone Copyright 2017 ~ J. 20. Hi, to those of you who offered such helpful critiques of this song. Here's another version, with different reasons in each verse for the friends parting. I also added a Bridge to give a new dimension to the message. I know that the structure of V-C-V-C-B-C is a standard one, but in this case, I have V-C-V-C-B-V-C. Is that weird or OK? If I need to take something out, should it be the Bridge or one of the Verses? I'd love your thoughts. It was a real benefit to hear so many insightful comments. Thanks! “Friendship Hurts If You Do It Right” (Patty Lakamp) V1 We were best friends all through grade school Brave explorers in the park Built a fort down by the river She was Lewis to my Clark Then my Daddy got a new job First time I’d encountered fate I learned something about friendships I did not anticipate (Chorus) Friendship hurts if you do it right Friends separate and it’s never the same The closer the friend, the deeper the pain But it’s part of life to start over again V2 I met Jennie as a freshman We shared books and boys and beer Listening to her secrets Was like looking in the mirror I thought we’d always be together Best friends just a hop away But life carried us down different roads I miss her every day (Chorus) Friendship hurts if you do it right Friends separate and it’s never the same The closer the friend, the deeper the pain But it’s part of life to start over again Bridge: Friendship brings sadness when friends have to part And starting again is incredibly hard But I give it my all in spite of the cost Over time I have gained so much more than I’ve lost V3 I’ve had coffee twice a week with Mary Ann for thirty years We’ve had every conversation About marriage and careers She’s the kind of friend who gets me It took years to build this trust Now she’s moving to Montana And I’m struggling to adjust (Chorus) Friendship hurts if you do it right Friends separate and it’s never the same The closer the friend, the deeper the pain But it’s part of life to start over again Patty Lakamp © Copyright 2017

Hey guys, so this is my first time posting to this forum as well as my first attempt in writing a lyrics to a song, I will really appreciate some comments on what to improve (constructive critique) as well as if you like it. little by little day by day you saw my heart crumble into pieces nothing could be done to stop the pain my laughter became cries my smile became upside down my crying of joy became of pain you're the reason why i'm holding back Hold me in your arms and never let go your the reason why im stading here the reason why i havent let go whisper in my ear the words i never heard before give me the hug im looking for ease the pain that never leaves my side your the reason why i havent let go Days were shorter and nights were longer how i look for the confort you onces gave me the smile you brought to my face the twinkle in my eyes it seems that when you left you took that way too let me remember the memories the ones that held so much love the ones were you and me are one Hold me in your arms... just promise me you'll be back before my hearts breakes a little more just promise me youll be back before i decide to forget Hold me in your arms..... if you decide to leave i wish you well and joy if its not by my side the love your lookin for know your the reason why i havent let go
  22. V1 Welcome to the human race but are you fit to run? A word of warning here though they start races with a gun. And if you want to be a winner don't try to run too fast, the winner in the race of life's the guy who comes in last. Ch. And if you want to cross the finish line completely in control, stick to country music, whisky and a little rock and roll. V2 Hip hoppin, body poppin, dancing like a fool, jive talkin, moon walkin , thinkin that you're cool. The little pills you're takin though, fresh made in the lab., are goin to speed you up some till you end up on the slab. CH. So if you want to cross the finish line completely in control, stick to country music, whisky and a little rock and roll. V3 White lines sometimes keep you on the straight, but sometimes little white lines lead you to your fate. Take you down a road that's gonna end in harm, face down in the gutter with a needle in your arm. CH. And if you want to cross the finish line completely in control, stick to country music, whisky and a little rock and roll. V4 Gangsta rappin, finger snappin talkin like you're hard, double tapped and six feet down in some bad bastard's yard, Don't race with the devil he's got evil in his name, stick to what you know is right and folks who think the same. CH. And if you want to cross the finish line completely in control, stick to country music, whisky and a little rock and roll. V5 Now you're doin very well, you're runnin smooth and fine, don't think about the future, just enjoy your time. The Gypsy Lady's crystal ball is quite good for a laugh, but crystal can be tricky stuff, cut your life in half. CH. So if you want to cross the finish line completely in control, stick to country music whisky and a little rock and roll. V6 But at last you made it ,you're at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter's lookin at his watch and thinkin " Christ you're late". And when Saint Peter asks you what you've done that he should save your soul, say you've done country music, whisky and a little rock and roll. Just country music, whisky and a little rock and roll.
  23. Here's the updated version of Crime to commit, put a bridge in, and even changed one of the verses melodies.
  24. A quick morning write. Heavy load Father time, has put his grip on me My regrets, they now ride the shotgun seat Search for words,to ease your lonely pain Days fly by , gets harder to explain It's a heavy load It's a heavy load My back is sore, I'm all alone It's a heavy load A heavy load In my reflection , it's you I've always seen Hard to believe,it's been eighteen years. It's you I long to hold Carry my guilt, that are now ball and chained Realize, there's a truth to all my shame It's a heavy load It's a heavy load My back is sore, I'm all alone It's a heavy load A heavy load I felt your tears, everytime I didn't show Your not to blame small's, you should know if I was the man I should've been i wouldn't be thinking these thoughts again It's a heavy load My back is sore, I'm all alone It's a heavy load A heavy load Father time, has put his grip on me My regrets, they now ride the shotgun seat It's a heavy load
  25. Hey all. First time posting to this forum. This is the first full song I've ever written. It's about feeling like you've lost yourself, but knowing that the person you truly are is still inside you, your just going about finding that person in all the wrong ways. Got the lyrics down in about an hour, now working on a bluesy/country type arrangement to go along with them. Hopefully that gives you a little insight into how this reads in my head. Would love to know what y'all think. Find My Way Home I only like me drinking whiskey I only like me getting stoned And I can’t take to face the poor man Who’s been carrying this load Spend my days waiting for the nighttime Spends my nights searching my soul But it’s always a fool’s errand Because my soul is right at home Wake up lonely and hungover It’s a feeling I’ve come to know Can’t shake the fact something’s missing Like I don’t know which way to go I only like me drinking whiskey I only like me getting stoned And I can’t take to face the poor man Who’s been carrying this load It’s hard to lose something inside you In fact it’s never really gone So for now I’ll keep on searching Hopefully heading my way home God I hate drinking this whiskey God I hate getting so stoned And I’m getting so damn tired Of being the man carrying this load Won’t you lift me of these burdens God won’t you help me find my soul Because this weather’s getting rainy And I’d sure like to get home
