  1. Hey folks, here is my latest tune. If you have a sweet tooth for progrock, this may be some ear candy for you. If not, still tell me what you think. I could especially use some critical ears on mix/EQ/etc. This was a challenging tune with lots of parts. Songform: I A B C A B C D E F C I started referring to this song as my triple-niner because, in addition to bass and drums, it has exactly 9 guitar tracks, 9 synth tracks, and 9 vocal tracks. GONE Running around with your head in the clouds You've lost your way Hoping to find that secret path to your golden age Trying to follow the tracks that you found To lead you back to hallowed ground But they're gone They've washed away Gone … Lost in yesterday Gone … Leave the past behind Life is moving on Tomorrow turns into yesterday Gone, gone, gone Hedging your bets and making plans You don't know how and you don't know when You might get a second try To find those things you'd left behind But they're gone They've passed away Gone . . . Like a shadow's fate Gone . . . Leave the past behind Time is moving on Tomorrow turns into yesterday Gone, gone, gone Where do you go from here? Where do you go from here? Where do you go from here? Leave the past behind Life is moving on Tomorrow turns into yesterday Gone, gone, gone
  2. Hey folks. Here is a progressive rock song that could also be categorized as progressive folk with a twist. Check it out and give me your thoughts on the tune and the mix! Mind's Eye Spied the stripes upon my sleeve Felt the grass beneath my feet Touched your hand, saw you running, Caught my breath, and you were gone In my mind's eye Can't see the reason why there's questions To these answers in my mind Happens all the time I don't know why the warships have arrived Don't know the reason why people have to die… I don't know why the sun climbs up the sky Or why night falls as we all fade away Because these answers, they always bring friends Their names are questions that set me to try (to understand) Why the wind blows through the trees As the Earth turns beneath my feet Live together, know the plan, Meet my soul mate in the sand In my mind's eye Can't see the reason why there's questions To these answers in my mind Happens all the time Is this fantasy? Maybe I'm just fast asleep I don't know what I will find (Except) I am here and quite alive In my mind's eye Can't see the reason why there's questions To these answers in my mind Happens all the time All these questions in my mind But maybe some day I will find I don't really mind
  3. I posted this in the wrong forum at first, so I'm moving it over to this one. I haven't been on the site for a while, but I just finished a new song, and I'm really glad to be back. Any and all comments, critiques, impressions, abuse, etc... is welcome and appreciated. Thanks for listening! if you see me out there late one night maybe I'm just seeing by a different light i can't explain, i don't regret it I'm only walkin' on the water if you come around when i am gone don't forget to leave a light on even if I told... you wouldn't get it I'm only walking on the water i was only walking on the water it's just the same as anything but still sometimes I just needed a reminder and no one tells you anything if you see me on the way back down maybe I was only born to drown I was probably trying to keep my head up I was only walking on the water I'm only walking on the water I don't know what it means to me i know sometimes that I'm only treading water i never said it's where you ought'a be but if you walk just right and step so light you almost can't go wrong when you think about it you don't stay up for long I'm only walking on the water...
  4. I recorded this over the weekend. It's the last song I can do for a couple weeks because I have to pack up to move. I will redo the chorus with harmonies after I move; this is a rough mix. Any and all comments welcome. (Tear Down These) Granite Walls TC Perkins V1 Sneaking down the corridor, Light steps sound like thunder Stand before your granite door, Like a beggar at the altar I know you’re in there, Like a thousand times before Lurking in the darkest corner, Afraid to face the coming storm INSTR BRIDGE V2 Ear down the corridor, Hear the sound of screaming silence Voices that I’d known before, Disappear in tranquil violence Feed the monster, kill the light Justify some dark desire Remolding truth to feed the lie C1 Tear down these granite walls Leave no stone upon another Tear down these walls and climb outside Stand upon the sea of glass Cast your crown upon the altar Tear down the walls and say goodbye Leave the shadows far behind Breath the truth, exhale the madness Tear down these walls and face The Light V3 Symbols in the corridor Lambent words disguised as wisdom But we've seen it all before Keep you safe if you sell your freedom Feed the fever, Starve the cure Justify some dark desire Remolding truth to feed the lie C2 OUTRO INSTR (verse)
  5. Here is one I have worked on off and on over that last few weeks. Originally it had a verse sang but to me it didn't fit so I decided to use vocals as more of a filler and use a synth to carry what was once the vocal verse making this more of an instrumental. I wove different syths together in this..some of them complimentary arpeggiators giving it a techno feel, but not atechno beat...sort of a differebnt animal. I'm not sure what genre it really falls into as it's a combination of a few. I was aiming for an energetic yet mysterious feel. Comments, ideas, suggestions always welcome!
  6. Hi, This lyric was inspired by "Take The Long Way Home" by supertramp. It seems like I'm writing a lot about self-righteous people (I think I've written like 5-7 songs, maybe more) but that's just something I've hated, so I'm venting my feelings through my lyrics. Don't worry, there will be different themed songs. Here it is! Look At Yourself (Intro) (Verse) So you think you're as pretty as a movie star But with that kinda attitude you won't get far Come down a notch or two Don't make me do it for you (Chorus) You really need to look at yourself Think you're one thing But you're actually something else Better take a good look at yourself (Verse) Don't you think you're flying a little too high Better come down before you burn out and die Don't listen to what Neil said He regretted it when a man was dead (Chorus) You really need to look at yourself Think you're one thing But you're actually something else Better take a good look at yourself (Verse) You've got such a high opinion of yourself Too bad you don't have that for someone else Don't you respect someone Who's helped everyone (Chorus) You really need to look at yourself Think you're one thing But you're actually something else Better take another look at yourself (Solo) (Bridge) Can't you try to be a little more humble Maybe help someone who's had a bad stumble Try not to have such a low opinion Of those you've been seeing (Solo) (Outro)
  7. I have been working on this song several weeks but I think now it's time to give up. The story has been on my mind a few years. But when the metorite hit Russian, I thought it's time to finalize the song. I guess this is a progressive rock song ... and yes it's a long track. I really appreciate all of you who listens the song and gives feedback. Part I: Apophis, lost a battle in ancient tales a compact between odds and tails Will be time to meet the foe again when there is storm and heavy rain The evil has been hiding thousands of years somewhere in the valley of fears Part II: Star, observed unknown star Far, shining brightly so far Found, killer star has been found Ground, one day it will hit the ground The darkness lies just below the horizon spitting fireballs and deadly venom waiting for battle with the Ancient sun-god Ra Told, many stories have been told Gold, winner gets armor and gold Sound, dying scream makes no sound Found survivers, can't be found The Killer snake is heading our way No place to hide or run, nothing left to say Master of evil and darkness knows where you are Part III: The sun god Ra travels through the sky enlivening the world with his light Many predictions have been made when the day is right for last fight The god of the night and master of death struggles with the god of the day Fire everywhere, upon the earth Dust covers the sun and the sky is grey The evil won the Battle of pain Ashes turned to ashes once again When flames light up the sky time to kiss your last goodbye
  8. Hi everyone. I'm going to be completely honest with all of you here, there's no point in trying to look like something my band and I are not: We're a 4 piece band (keyboards, drum,s bass guitar, guitar) Progressive Rock band and are starting to get our stuff together (as in "we at least don't pay to play anymore", haha). We create our own songs and seldom do covers, and since we've been playing a lot lately, we're needing new material ASAP. Here's the catch: English is not our native language (please don't ask "why don't you sing in your own language then ?" ), and I guess I'm the only member who can actually write in English. All our songs that actually have lyrics (8 ATM, 6 instrumental ones) were written by me. But since I'm also not a native English speaker, sometimes the words I use just don't sound right... or optimal, to be more precise. That's why I'm looking for help here on Songstuff. We've got central ideas (regarding both music and themes/lyrics) for at least 3 albums... so what I'm looking for is a partner to help me make these ideas come true. What is required of you : - That English is your first language, quite obviously - It is absolutely necessary that you have some knowledge of Rock music, specially Progressive Rock - That you are the kind of person who analyzes the world... that observes society and everything that is wrong or right about it, and knows how to write about that. That is interested in and understands human emotions not limited to love or sadness. That you are willing to be different, to be unusual, to be original, to be unique. That you hear the sounds and immediately can see the images, and can turn them into words. In fact, that you are a poet at heart. That is why I said we are looking for a partner, not just a collaborator. This is really intended to be a long-term relationship. It doesn't HAVE to be that way, but we're really looking forward to that. Things we DON'T require from you : - We don't expect you to play an instrument. If you do play a little (or very well... who knows ?), that's better. But that's not required. - You don't need previous experience. The band had a nice conversation a few days back (when I told them I'd like to post this topic here) and we came to an agreement that it is indeed better if you are little experienced. That way we can grow together. - I'm not sure why, but I felt it was important to say this: we'll never ask you for money. I guess that covers it all. I apologize for such a wall of text... couldn't be helped. Anyway, if you are interested, PM me or contact me at rbandeira108@gmail.com By the way, our band's name is Opera Rio. We currently don't have any recorded material (except very low-quality "homemade" recordings), but just to give you some perspective of what our sound is like... imagine that Pink Floyd and Deep Purple had a child that was brought up by... well, Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu Thans in advance !
