  1. Hello, a couple months ago I released a song I wrote for some one very close to me. I would love to hear some feedback on anything, whether it be lyrics, sound quality, recording techniques, etc. The story of how I wrote the song is in the description of the soundcloud link. You can also check out my live performance on Youtube. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, let me know what you think! - Joey
  2. Hello, I would like to share a video with all of you that demonstrates looping in a performance setting. If you watch this video from beginning to end, you may notice that when I press the loop pedal (BOSS RC-1 for those who are curious), it plays the intro chord progression I recorded in the very beginning of the video. This allowed me to have some time to walk over to the piano while my loop played over. When the loop came to an end, I came in with the piano to finish off the song. Making this actually happen was somewhat tiresome seeing that I did not have the equipment to hear the loop go around when I was waiting for it to end. Luckily for me, the RC-1 has a light display that indicates when the loop comes to an end. I had someone give me a signal when that light came around completely, making the timing of the piano coming in "somewhat" decent for the situation I was in. Turned out pretty good in my opinion. Just thought I'd share. You can listen to the studio version of the song here.
  3. Hello from the Kid in Chucks

Hello everyone! My name is Joey and I am new to this platform. I'm excited to share music with all of you back-and-forth. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio and am an acoustic singer-songwriter highly influenced by Jazz and Soul. Currently in school right now but am managing to do music on the side. If there are any groups that you may know of that I might fit well in with the genres that I like, I'd appreciate a recommendation! Thanks! Joey

  5. Suggestions Appreciated "Rushing"

You comments appreciated, many thanks. Rushing David Ritchie Staring at this strange new ground taking in the things I’ve found, I’d best sit back not dance so fast ‘cause time is short let’s make the music last Chorus: So let’s raise our hands And lift our glass Enjoy our life before it’s past Live life fully, make it last I’m thankful for the life I’’ve had It’s always been with you I chanced upon you long ago Changed my point of view Now let’s try that road less traveled There’s no need for us to rush We’ll slow down and find our way And dance in the middle of the day Chorus: So let’s raise our hands And lift our glass Enjoy our life before it’s past Live life fully, make it last Have you ever lost serenity With never ending rushes A time where things don’t seem to matter Do you dream of places faraway Prepare ourselves to start again That’’s a lesson hard to learn Follow our passions we’ll be fine And of the future…….unconcerned.

  7. Hi, I'm Izzy:)

Hello, I'm Izzy! I have been playing guitar and singing for almost 5 years and have finally finished some of my own songs. My style is somewhere between folk and alternative, all acoustic at the moment but I plan to expand! They are all very stream of consciousness written so I am eager to see how people interpret them. Excited to hear all of your songs and share my thoughts!
  8. Waiting on Something (WIP)

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/waiting-on-somethingfinal-mix * Last mix for this one Hey guys, Hearing Hobo's excellent music/song this afternoon inspired me to go back and discover some music I had laying around (thanks David!). I always liked this music but I never had lyrics for it, so I scribbled down some words to sing as a guide track. My dream would be for someone to take this music and make a great song out of it with different lyrics and a melody of their own. I also plan to add something to this outro...just not sure what. Anyway, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have on this one (music/mix/improvements) Thanks everyone! Lyrics She took it in stride like a champion As I was on the move for a while She stood in the doorway like a ghost in my mind wearing her favorite shirt from our time sometimes I feel like an old shoe or maybe a bottle thats lost out at sea you can call it what you want, call it blasphemy Im gonna call it the death of a catastrophe Im waiting on something, yeah yeah yeah I feel she's a bluebird and I'm an avalanche and I'm making my way downtown If you said you knew me, baby you'd be lying I bet you couldnt recognize me now
  9. Tony Farris At The Tin Pan (Rva)

Hi Everyone, so for any that don't know me, I've posted numerous times on the critique forums, though I've been a little inactive as of late. I write and perform orriginal music in the basic singer/songwriter format (vocals, guitar, some harmonica in there here and there). I thought I'd share a short performance of mine from The Tin Pan (Richmond,VA). Hope you enjoy it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pCDUwMBPPE Thanks for looking, Tony
  10. Minor Hill

Hey guys, I've been working on a master for this song for a few days, but I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on the mix with fresh ears. I've been going back and forth between levels of compression and trying to get the bass line to sit in the mix. I want the song to sound a little darker. Too much compression? Too much low end? Any help would be great. -Michael Lyrics: She slid past me in the morning just before the sun began to break Theres too much confusion in my own mind Im not sure how much more I can take and there's dark clouds all around me now yeah there's a shadow on my right side I remember a time when it didn't move so fast I remember a time when I felt alright Chorus: Everything looks the same when you're the one standing still the moons gonna rise over Minor Hill She sat in the car listening to her favorite songs She looked at me and she turned away she's got the only number I can remember by heart I'm too scared to use it anyway
  11. American

Hey guys, I was cleaning up some of my computer files and I found this tune just sitting around that I recorded about 6 months ago. Anyways, I wanted to get some of your opinions on it. Listening back, I think it may have been a few bpm too slow(?). Feel free to give me any feedback at all (mix/vocal/lyrics). I'm still searching for the individual tracks that I did for this one, I can only find the "master" so far. Thanks guys! Lyrics: Heaven won't you go easy on me You know Im doing the best I can I know nothing in life ever comes for free Still I'm holding out my 2 hands I can feel you crawling underneath my skin I can burn it down just to build it up again I am American Call me what you want but Im resilient I can survive it if it comes my way My addictions all seem so brilliant but you still don't hear a word I say I can see you dancing out in the moonlight I never seen you look so good I can feel you crawling underneath my skin I can burn it down just to build it up again I am American
  12. A Little Light

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/a-little-light-live-on-527 Hello guys! I'm going to start working on a set of live recordings, and I decided to try out a demo song before I dove in. I wrote this tune rather quickly, but I really liked the 2nd verse so I decided to record it . It's a brand new song, so I'm wide open to any critiques about this song (lyrics/melody) and its recording. I only used 1 microphone for both the guitar and vocal. Do you think the quality is ok for a live tune? Thanks a lot! -Michael Lyrics: Big white lies little orange devils keeping my eyes open at night its a sign of the times troubles coming right down the line like a car speeding right up to a red light were all just souls beat down to the bone looking for a light just a little light to carry us home I still assume heaven is an old school diner and I can order whatever the hell I choose the grill is covered in rust and my table is covered with dust I can just sit for hours alone in my booth
  13. Long & Lonely Ride (Demo)

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/long-lonely-ride-demo **Thank you to everyone for the feedback! I think I've got what I need for this one. Well, I've been playing this song out for a bit and it quickly turned into one of my favorites. I kept the recording very bare-bones... but I fear I may have made it too dreary and slow. Any suggestions? I like the lyrics (for the most part) Should I speed it up, or add something to it? Anything to make it better or more accessible Thanks for listening. -Michael Lyrics: In my mind is red mixed with green grey and blue fill out the scene on the road of never ending daylight sometimes I feel I've seen too much out on the road and out of touch close my eyes it'll be midnight no one told me it was this crazy on the outside no one told me life would be such a long and lonely ride down the road a little further there's a place I've never seen before I know its gonna hit me tomorrow sometimes I wish I had a place to call my own a woman to warm my bones and miss me when Im gone no one told me it was this crazy on the outside no one told me life would be such a long and lonely ride I dont wanna live just to forget I dont wanna die full of regret I dont wanna be here when the sun sets
  14. A Good Heart

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/a-good-heart-2-26 Hello everyone, Here's a newish song that I've been working on. I wanted it to sound pretty simple and not over-produced. I'm pretty happy with it but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one (mix/lyrics/melody/production). Thanks a lot! -Michael Lyrics: Take me to your old house, we'll run and play and skip stones like you used to Tie me to the bed and leave me for dead I don't see the world like I'm supposed to Man, she said I got a good Man, she said I got a good heart Take me out west where I don't know a soul in the world except for you Load me up with pills to handle the chills because my jacket isn't waterproof Man, she said I got a good Man, she said I got a good heart
  15. Hi guys, here's another collaboration effort. Unlike other songs, this only took a couple of days to complete so Im excited about it but at the same time a little worried, 'cause I usually put a lot more time into my songs. But I'll let yous be the judge of that A couple of things Im planning on changing about this song: *The way I pronounced everything as everything' in the bridge: "I wanna see everything." *Im planning on halving the time gap between the chorus and bridge, coz the way it is now takes away the momentum. I would really appreciate feedback on anything you guys might find worth mentioning. Thanks, Ken Dandelions © Andy Mackay & Ken Fukuda I’m loving the way you won’t live the same day twice Experiencing you has become my emotional vice You say others have left you showing cuts but not scars Unwilling to feel and unfreeze their hearts Well I’ve let my ice all melt away I know all the exits, I’ve locked all the doors (I’ve been in this play) I am here to stay Chorus So(you can) keep me guessing Keep me trying I’ll be (here) pulling petals From my dandelions I’ll only want you more Then each day before, oohhhh I’m giving this all I’ve got, all I’ve got Love me or love me not V2 Whenever I’m with you I’m kissing a different girl Your lips are my keys to all your beautiful worlds Just like a light in the woods, a mystical glow Every color you are I want to know So show me yourself and who you’ll become I know where I’m going, I know where I’m from For me you’re the one Chorus: So you can keep me guessing Keep me trying I’ll be here pulling petals From my dandelions I’ll only want you more Then each day before, oohhh I’m giving this all I’ve got, all I’ve got Love me (or love me not) Bridge: I have been to the garden, only to leave before spring but this time I am waiting, Oh I am waiting I want to see everything, I wanna see everything Chorus
  16. She Was All I Ever Had

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/aieh Hey Guys, I'm trying to force myself to write/record more often, and I came up with a song that I hope will close out my album. Something is up with my monitors, so I'm having to mix in headphones for the time being. Does anything jump out at you? I was going for an early 1970s folk/psychedelic sound for the outro. Does it work? I want to get this one right, so any thoughts are welcome. Thanks everyone! -Michael Lyrics See the clouds move across the red hills it'll be a few days before it rains again step outside, just like my first time let the sun glide over my skin oh, she was all I ever wanted oh, she was all I ever had and I can breathe a little easier it seems when she posts a brand new photo on her page my how she looks the same, though her hair has changed she looks better than most people her age oh, she was all I ever wanted oh, she was all I ever had I'd love to see her face again the morning comes too soon with the sun maybe one day she'll come out to find me after my running, my running days are done
  17. Blackwater Revival (*revised)

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/blackwater-revival-2 *Re-recorded vocals to get rid of the hiss. Gonna put this one away for now -I took a lot of your comments and tried to re-work this one a bit. I added an outro, re-did the vocals, and tried to clean up the chorus. Hey guys, I'm still working on a new EP and I wrote this song last night. Kind of an unusual tune... Part of me likes that it's very short, part of me thinks it should be extended. I'd love to hear your thoughts on anything/everything that you can think of. Thanks a lot! -Michael Lyrics: Heartbreak loves the morning means you survived another night it'll creep up on you without warning take you by surprise feel the height of the highest mountains feel the depth of the lowest ravines red blood flowing from the fountain gonna make this man believe the blackwater revival it aint gonna save your soul the blackwater revival it aint gonna save you, my friend until the very end
  18. Happy 2015 guys! Can't wait to see/hear what this year has in store for us Im back with an old song, hopefully it has improved since then(not my singing!)? This song is meant for a female vocalist.......just so u know lol We've incorporated some of the ideas we got from you guys last year, so pls have a listen and feel free to express your thoughts Thanks, Ken/Andy https://soundcloud.com/imken-2/nobody-knows-this_work-tape Nobody Knows This © Andy Mackay & Ken Fukuda V1: I remember, rain And how the sun, broke through Being under your umbrella And finally kissing you There were children splashing, through puddles in the field Worry free like little sparrows And that’s how you made me feel pre: Sometimes I wonder Oh~ what your're doing now but maybe its better not knowing leave, that first love glowing chorus: Nobody knows this But when I close my eyes I smile like that summer You know I really miss you sometimes Nobody knows this But I saved how we felt, how we felt In our pho-to booth faces In this book on my shelf Safe here on my shelf V2: That September came and it brought me tears Must have worn your college sweater Each day the rest of that year Those were real feelings I know they were true All I wanted was a world Where you had me and I had you chorus: Nobody knows this But I still close my eyes And smile like that summer You know I really miss you sometimes Nobody knows this But I saved how we felt, how we felt in our pho-to booth faces In this book on my shelf Safe here on my shelf ***I went too high on "shelf" in the last chorus*** (Last chorus: Our pho-to booth faces) ( And nobody knows this) Bridge: I'll see lovers, kissing or the greenest, eyes and I'll get to thinking ***Not sure about the latter half of the melody?*** did we ever, say goodbye? Chorus
  19. My Favorite Song

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/goodbye-good-luckmaster I wrote this song in 2013 for my first EP, and even posted a "full-band" version of it in the critique section last year…it sounded pretty awful. I always considered this as a "throw-away" tune, so I never went back and recorded it. I started playing this song live for the past year and it slowly turned into my favorite song to play. A few days ago, I just sat down and recorded it as a simple acoustic version. This is how it turned out. Hope you enjoy it. -Michael
  20. Try

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/try-new-mix Hello everyone! I've got about 5 songs that I'm starting to work on in the studio, and this is one that I just finished. I wanted it to be sparse on the production side, but I'm scared it may be too boring. Anyway, I'd love to hear any thoughts that you have about the song, lyrics, and the mix. Thanks! -Michael Lyrics: Loaded up on good intentions and the world just brought me down took out all of my frustrations on a life that makes me proud if you don't me to listen if you don't want me to try, try, try if you don't me to follow baby, say goodbye bye bye wasted all my good good lovin I used it in my younger days stripped away my optimism and it left my childish ways if you don't want me to listen if you don't want me to try, try, try if you don't want me to follow baby, say goodbye bye bye and all these things have a way of working out
  21. Bricks & Bones (Demo)

https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/bricks-bones-demo-1 Hello everyone, Well, I've been sick at home for the past 2 days…so I decided to use the time to write and record something new. My vocal is a little weak, but I kinda like it. Anyway, I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have on this (arrangement, mix, melody, lyrics) Thanks! -Michael Lyrics: I don't mind watching the time fly in the arms of the one I love I don't mind watching the lights die when I'm all alone I don't mind chasing down a dream keep my head, stand straight and tall I don't mind breaking my own plans when it all goes wrong Chorus: sticks and stones, honey bricks and bones, now I know its time to move along I don't mind keeping my mouth shut even when I know the truth I don't mind keeping my eyes wide to my disappearing youth Chorus:
  22. Like Radio (Live Demo)

**The Track is private, so you'll have to click the link Hey guys, I haven't had much time to record any new songs in the past few months, but I sat down and wrote this new one today and wanted to do a quick live recording of it. It's pretty short, and I'm looking to fully produce this one at some point. Im open to any ideas and feedback would be much appreciated (lyrics/melody/structure) Thanks everyone! -Michael Lyrics: Oh I'm losing touch I'm losing my grip on these things oh I can see it now, in your eyes you're losing faith in me Chorus: Just like radio and your favorite shows I'm bound to let you down just like radio I hope you don't forget me now Put that dress on honey lets go dancing again Oh I used to walk right beside you now i found my way under your skin Chorus: Just like radio and your favorite shows I'm bound to let you down just like radio i hope you don't forget me now
  23. https://soundcloud.com/michaelstovallmusic/waiting-on-a-war-mastered **Updated Version** I added a small bridge, and another chorus. Still not sure if i like it or not Hello Everyone, I squeezed in some recording time today, and this is what I came out with. It's not done, and it needs an outro…any suggestions for that would be welcome. Anyway, please let me know what you think about it (lyrics/melody/structure/mix) Thanks a lot! -Michael Lyrics: Does it kill you does it bring you down does it keep you up knowing it comes around and the softest touch can be the hardest part and the saddest song heading straight for your heart when you're waiting on a war is your mind right is your heart turning cold could you scream out loud just to let it all go and the pain comes but you laugh instead and lullabies dance around in your head when you're waiting on a war
  24. It's Only Goodbye

Hello, boils and ghouls of Songstuff, it's been quite a while since I've posted any of my shoddy work, but I'm curious as to what opinions you all may have about this new song. It's just a roughly-done cellphone recording with some reverb added. Thanks for listening if you do and thank you even more for your feedback. —Freddy Lyrics: Trails of vapor in the sky That scar the frail cheek of day Evaporate like a morning mist Into the grey I don't know where I'm going But I know I'll be there soon Somewhere lost in the leaves Or the memories of June You know, It's almost a shame, but it's only goodbye May my body turn to ashes May my ashes grow a tree Where the doves will come to cry And mourn for me I hope to find celestial cities The eternal dance of lights Where the frosty voice of God Solemnly invites You know, It's almost a shame, but it's only goodbye You know, It's almost a shame, but it's only goodbye
  25. Home (Live)
