  1. Hi all and no this is not a cover of the fantastic Depeche Mode song... but instead it is an instrumental piece I wrote a while back for a potential EP (called Into Madness) I was going to do. It was going to be around 5 instrumental pieces, all electronic/synthpop. I know this is an instrumental, but I am posting it here as no-one seems to go into the instrumental page much. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated (I think the drums may be a tad too loud on this one)... let me know what you think.... Cheers https://soundcloud.com/moodman-1/enjoy-the-silence-mix-03022017-2020/s-Ig24U
  2. Hi all - here is a little ditty I started late last night - I had the music done and then thought of some lyrics at 1.30 in the morning, so had to quickly sing a vocal melody so I didn't forget. Got a chance today to give it another go. It started out as a Depeche Mode type song (I was thinking of Enjoy The Silence after posting my instrumental yesterday with the same name). As you can see it's turned into something a bit different from The Mode!!! Before I continue with this one, I would appreciate any feedback... The vocals are as is, I haven't fixed them up or anything.... Cheers https://soundcloud.com/moodman-1/cross-the-universe-04022017-2016/s-8VrMD CROSS THE UNIVERSE (Words and Music by Richard Tracey) (verse) Even though we seem light years apart The distance doesn't seem to change my heart You're like a star a billion miles away A light that's getting closer every day (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe The universe for you (verse) The emptiness of space is yearning My time on this rock it means nothing I'd move the earth for you if I could Bringing it closer to your neighbourhood (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe The universe for you (bridge) I look up at the night A billion stars shining bright Which one are you..... I need to know Cause I am coming... I'm coming for you This is the right thing for me to do (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you The universe for you
  3. Hey everyone, Been working on recording an EP for quite some time now to little avail so decided to finally get things into gear and tried doing it myself instead. I'm aware that some timing, phrasing, and pitching is a bit off, and production value is pretty low quality in general since it's just a quick do-up on my home equipment, nothing special (will probably just use it as a demo to get recorded better elsewhere), but would love any and all feedback, especially regarding the song! https://soundcloud.com/joshmaier/home-demo-1/s-lk3OE Thanks in advance, lemme know your thoughts and hope you enjoy! c: Lyrics: Verse 1 Should I walk through the door Into the streets outside Carve a way between the clouds Across the midnight sky We'll leave it all behind Forget about those summer nights When the sweat poured off our skin Before the dawn brought new life Verse 2 Staring out into black Wonder if we go back What could we become? Hearts pound in our chests All those little secrets We'll never lay to rest Chorus Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home? Bridge Saw that light crash against the wall Held your hand through it all As the impact hits my skin Heard your voice, through the room it called Out my name as we fall Through the howling of the wind Chorus Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home? [How could you ever call this home?] Tell yourself it's just a dream Holding on to simple things Til we find our way back home Cause time is always on the run Hand yourself a loaded gun Can you ever call this home?
  4. Hi all - started this tonight and was hoping for some feedback before I continue. I cannot get my head into my music at the moment, so hoping for some inspiration. This is a first draft work in progress. There is no bridge/middle 8 thingie yet, but all comments are welcomed on the music and lyrics (the lyrics need tweaked). ReBorn (lyrics and music by Richard Tracey) A flicker burning in the night I walk towards the sound of your voice Booming in my head I know that I am waiting for the moment I'm ReBorn Just like a butterfly bursting Out of it's cocoon My moment's come Can you feel it Can you see it Do you know just how to dream it Can you make it Can you break it Do you know just how to take it It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) I feel the sun upon my face As I stand naked looking out upon a world That once Knew what I was before I started thinking for myself I knew that I must rewind to a point Where I'm with you My only hope Can you feel it Can you see it Do you know just how to dream it Can you make it Can you break it Do you know just how to take it It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels)
  5. Hi all, it's been a while since I was last on the forums due to work and family commitments (never seem to have any time to myself at the moment - there might be a song in that somewhere!!), but I have just recorded an idea I had and wanted to know what everyone thought. It is a rough draft at the moment and the vocal is a guide for timing and the lyrics etc (I am still taking medication for my pro-lapsed disc in my back and they play havoc with my throat and voice!!). The arrangement isn't 100% yet, I've got ideas for a bit of automation and certainly more sounds and counter melodies going on in the background, but just wanted to see if I was on the right track with this one. Any critique is welcome... there isn't much going on in the mix as there is only about 5 tracks so far. I also mucked up one of the lines in the chorus near the end - just ignore..... Cheers, Richard - I'll have a listen to some of your newer tracks this week and hopefully get a couple of comments posted.... Lyrics: MY CONFESSION (music and lyrics by Richard Tracey) VERSE 1 The writing was upon the wall The past catching up with me The little white lies I once told Were starting to unfold VERSE 2 And all the people that I hurt Their tears were drowning me And the weight of all the guilt Crushed the walls I built CHORUS x2 And this is my confession This is how it's going to be This is how we're going to see All the things that save me VERSE 3 And now I wish for a second chance To show what I've become Renewed with a driving force A man full of remorse VERSE 4 On the ground upon my knees To plead forgiveness I don't want to forget All of my regret CHORUS x2 And this is my confession This is how it's going to be This is how we're going to see All the things that save me BRIDGE CHORUS to end
  6. Hi all, while I am trying to get myself motivated to do some of the tracks I am working on and to stop me composing a new one each day (started 2 over the past 2 days!!), I decided to listen to some of my older stuff that I haven't bothered my backside doing anything with..... Below is a song I wrote with one of my friends who plays guitar in 2013/2014 ish. We did a rough sketch in about an hour (before we had to pick the kids up from school) and it was only about a minute long. I took that and created this arrangement and fired on lyrics and vocals. It is not complete and needs a bit of work, but it would be interesting to see what you all think. Cheers Lyrics: Come With Me (music by Richard Tracey and Graham Stephen - lyrics by Richard Tracey) Verses Do we ever find the things we want Do we ever find the things we need If we want to we can hold on tight To all we can see Do they ever have to find the time Do they ever have to dance all night If they want to they can all give in To all they can be Chorus Come with me And I'll make you see All the things we are meant to be Come with me Cause I am the key And I'm here to set them free
  7. Okay, promise this will be the last new track I'll post this week and I will get back to listening and posting comments on other people's tracks etc. I started this one today and got right into the groove with it, so would be interested to hear what you all think of it so far. It is still a work in progress and vocals are first draft. Lyrics aren't complete for the second verse part. Any critique is welcomed. Cheers Lyrics so far: Cloud Nine v1 The moment has come And you know what you've got to do (got to do) There is somewhere that you've got to go That's deep inside you (deep inside you) v2 If I could give a helping hand To wake the feeling (wake the feeling) Then we can start the process Of your inner healing (inner healing) Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine v3 (placeholder) The moment has come And you know what you've got to do (got to do) There is somewhere that you've got to go That's deep inside you (deep inside you) v4 (placeholder) If I could give a helping hand To wake the feeling (wake the feeling) Then we can start the process Of your inner healing (inner healing) Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine Bridge Listen to your heart Listen to your head Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine
  8. Hi all, I have thought long and hard about posting my first track for critique and after seeing the recent posts from MonoStone, have decided to revisit a track I started in December 2015, which I couldn't work out what to do with. This is a very early work in progress and took about an hour to get to this state. I would appreciate any critique as well as where you think the track could go - does it need something else added - what to do with the lyrics etc. There is no real mixing of the tracks at this time, so don't really know if anything sounds muddied. Anyway, any input would be much appreciated. Cheers Lyrics (so far) DESIRE And I I can see the fire I can see the desire In everything we've done And I I can see the light I can see the fight In everything you do And every dream you hold on to It means nothing to you And every dream you give away A penny for another day (the lyrics repeat - this was to give me an idea of what could come next - unfortunately, I didn't revisit the track)
  9. Hello everyone, for the first time my song for a theatre play was accepted and put in the play. The genre is tragicomedy. I would like to hear feedbacks from professional musicians like You! https://soundcloud.com/brain-claim/brainclaim-open-your-eyes
  10. Hi guys, after a month I came with brand new cheery trance, melody might be known to You from different songs, but I think it suits in this song. Anyway, I will be very grateful for every feedback! I hope You enjoy!

  12. Dear Songstuffing Forumers, I am pretty sure that the N.S.A. just stole the first draft of this post. I had just finished typing it, and the power went down. When I tried to reboot my computer and return to the forum, the forum had been replaced by a strange AT&T diagnostics web page. Needless to say, I'm being watched. This song is titled "Stage One," because it is the soundtrack to a video game in which Super Agent Dirk Hanes fights the virtual powers-that-be through darkened halls and over-head views and finds, at the end of the "Stage One," no boss. I have enabled downloads on the track because I'd like for people to download it and play it at crazy people parties. Any and all responses here are appreciated. There are some great musicians and listeners on this forum. Thanks! E/S https://soundcloud.com/derek-ryan-hain/stage-one "STAGE ONE" [instrumental]
  13. Hello fellow songcrafters. I recognize that I am no longer writing songs per se. If anything, I aspire to compose using classical techniques without following classical forms. In some sense, my work doesn't belong on this forum. However, I've found more astute listeners and articulate critics here than elsewhere in my life. So I am always happy to share pieces here on the forum. This recording, as the title suggests, is a new composition that utilizes the musical material from my previous composition, "Nipples." In fact, the recording begins with an abbreviated version of that song. To aid your understanding of the piece, I've created a time index to show how the composition is structured. I definitely recommend first listening to this piece in the dark at a healthy volume! If marijuana is legal where you live, I further recommend smoking some before listening! The time index might help you formulate your critique or otherwise understand my method. Thanks so much for listening. 14. Hello, folks. I have just recorded my latest in-progress composition. It is called "Nipples," and this is my second sketch. The first sketch was on paper. This recording includes many mistakes, because I am still learning and creating the song. I tried to hold to the overall structure during my performance and to not let mistakes break my flow. I think my musical rhythms are often absurd because I am beginning to compose around my mistakes. Anyway, there are still parts of this composition that are up in the air, and sometimes in this recording I don't catch them. The song title comes from the keys I'm playing on the keyboard, the keys which form a scale with two like "nipples," one poking up between G and A and one inverted between C# and Eb. It's a whimsical title. And the "fully organic" parenthetical part of the title, well, that's the pretentious artistic part. [All discussion for this song can and should carry on in the "Milk (from Nipples)" thread. I've removed the "Nipples (Fully Organic...) recording from Soundcloud, because all of its material has been repurposed in that other song, mostly in the "First Sketch" section. Thank you for listening!] E/S
  15. I am playing with different song structures and recording methods. This is an unedited performance, which includes a long, confused pause. I recorded live with two mics: a pencil mic and a bigger, side-address type. I added some spatial delay to the pencil mic signal and EQ'd the side-address one to eliminate the highest frequencies and emphasize the mid-highs and lows. The first sound you will hear is me pressing the sustain pedal. Thanks for listening! All responses and critiques are welcome! E/S [I added more to the song and deleted this file! Please see below.] https://soundcloud.com/derek-ryan-hain/fender-bender-on-nbcbn "FENDER BENDER ON N.B.C.B.N." I was involved in a fender bender. Green car smushed red. 16. Hello; it s been a while I tried to do sth more "modern" in terms of beats. It s kinda minimalistic, maybe cause i don t know how to do it with more percussion going on. anyway, in the end, it kinda turned out how i wanted it to be...which is good. excited to know what others think. the lyrics are....hmmm....it s more like "phrases"; just put in a different way, tried to make them "my" words; if that makes sense. though they sound pretty trivial, i had a hard time, getting them on a piece of paper. Tx everyone 4 your time. B everything is easy when i feel i m gone i think of you and all the things you do i reappear for you of all the things you do beeing with me is what you should do we shouldn't be in two everything is easy so easy life is not a waste anymore like it was before we were in love as you leave the room i break in two how i care for you how i wish you knew will you turn around as i follow you you don t even need to just let me follow you everything is easy so easy life is not a waste anymore like it was before we were in love
  17. Hi, I am working on this keyboard composition and some fresh, listening ears would help me direct the work. I'm using a new keyboard voice, and I am working with some specific sustained harmonies. The textures get quite dense. The song also contains some abrupt tonal switches. The composition isn't complete and the performance includes a few hesitations, but I think it's far enough along for listeners to tell if it's working or not and how it might be improved. Thanks a bunch. E/S [Edited to update recording.] https://soundcloud.com/derek-ryan-hain/1031-of-what-use-is-the-mind-to-a-cow "OF WHAT USE IS AWARENESS TO THE TAO?"
  18. Here is a rather slight musical piece, heavy on narrative and perhaps too light on musical interest. I am not sure if it works, whatever it may be, on its own merits. You decide! Thanks for listening. E/S https://soundcloud.com/derek-ryan-hain/engineering-data-for-a-healthy-business "ENGINEERING DATA FOR A HEALTHY BUSINESS" I caught the corporate vibe at 2 a.m. and I had to wake up (engineering data in my dreams, engineering data) far past the split point where tech cleaves reality. Hmm hmm hmm... 16 oz. latte and a copy of the Economist. Read it on the "L" train. GET OUT OF MY WAY YOU SHUFFLING, WRINKLY, SHRINKING GRANNY!!! The sixth floor hallway glowed with the orange power lights of towers asleep upon their desks. As I entered my cubicle, specks of silicon fuzz clouded my vision (engineering data in my dreams, engineering data) forces beyond recognition: the Wheel of Fortune, the Knight of Pentacles, and the Magician ... upside down? You find your life to be a project of Universal Destination, and yet you sell your strength to be a servant of Postcivility Corporation.
  19. Recording includes a few performance flubs, but they don't ruin the experience. This is a single-take recording, no overdubs. Any honest response is welcome. Thanks. 20. I have been practicing this composition to death. It utilizes a custom synth voice, which you might choose to critique. This is a single-take recording, with a few mistakes edited out. Conceptually, this is more like an etude than a song, but I hope it's a pleasure to hear, start to finish. Comments of any sort are welcome. Thanks for listening. 21. Hi everyone I write electronic music, using Propellerhead Reason. It's a hobby and my abilities are strictly amateur!, but I'm a synthesizer enthusiast, and really enjoy the composing and sound production processes. I can't sing, but a couple of years ago I was lucky enough to meet up on the SoundCloud with an artist Carl Grace who frequents this forum - he sings, composes, plays keys and guitar. He lives in San Francisco and I live in Auckland, so we collaborate by exchanging files using Drop Box, and publish songs to our Soundcloud accounts and Bandcamp. I see Carl has posted some songs here, and the quality is feedback from everyone is really excellent - high quality, detailed, candid and always constructive. You all seem like a bunch of passionate, supportive folks, which inspired me to sign up here :-) I'll be really keen to get feedback (no matter how critical) to improve my own abilities, and certainly share my own opinions and experience to people here! cheers! I love beats like this: (Please do not place a link to a video with a Parental Warning here) so if you can do something similar it would be amazing contact: (please do not put any contact details within a post)
  24. Hi guys! For this one, I really wanted to write something that sounded quite chilled, but progressive and atmospheric at the same time. I'm still a bit torn on whether I should add vocals or not, or whether they would even work, so if you have any suggestions regarding that, I'd be happy to hear them. I'm not really looking for any specific critique, so if you have any critique at all, I'd love to hear it. Thanks! Sam
  25. Hi guys! I've been working on this one for a bit now and I figured I'd get you guys' opinion on it. It was really written with vocals in mind, so I'm aware that some bits might be a bit empty. I'm still a bit of a noob to production, so I'd really appreciate any advice in that area, but I'm open to general critique as well.
