  1. Hi all - here is a little ditty I started late last night - I had the music done and then thought of some lyrics at 1.30 in the morning, so had to quickly sing a vocal melody so I didn't forget. Got a chance today to give it another go. It started out as a Depeche Mode type song (I was thinking of Enjoy The Silence after posting my instrumental yesterday with the same name). As you can see it's turned into something a bit different from The Mode!!! Before I continue with this one, I would appreciate any feedback... The vocals are as is, I haven't fixed them up or anything.... Cheers https://soundcloud.com/moodman-1/cross-the-universe-04022017-2016/s-8VrMD CROSS THE UNIVERSE (Words and Music by Richard Tracey) (verse) Even though we seem light years apart The distance doesn't seem to change my heart You're like a star a billion miles away A light that's getting closer every day (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe The universe for you (verse) The emptiness of space is yearning My time on this rock it means nothing I'd move the earth for you if I could Bringing it closer to your neighbourhood (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe The universe for you (bridge) I look up at the night A billion stars shining bright Which one are you..... I need to know Cause I am coming... I'm coming for you This is the right thing for me to do (chorus) And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you And I would cross the universe for you The universe for you
  2. ***** HI ALL - I'VE POSTED A NEW VOCAL VERSION ON PAGE 2 - WOULD APPRECIATE ANY CRITIQUE... CHEERS ****** Hi all, this was originally going to remain as an ambient instrumental piece (already posted as Ethereal in the Instrumental section), but on @MonoStone suggestion, I have added lyrics and vocal. Dek thought maybe go down the David Sylvian route, which I decided to do, hence the strange title and subject matter It is by no means finished - the vocal, lyrics, arrangement etc need work, but I am just looking for feedback on all the parts that are there at the moment. Does anything work? Is there parts that don't work? Am I finally going mad?!?!?! - I was trying to make the vocal sound a bit strange to go with the content - a bit ethereal so to speak. Any critique would be most welcome... Cheers Lyrics (feel free to critique) Can you pay The ferryman There's a cost He will demand If you don't have the coin He will not take you on He will leave you to wander Acheron Charon Help me out Please I just want to see my family If you can let me on your boat Then I know that I can go on home If you're lost Or if you know Just how far You must go With the souls of the others Who can't move on You will be left to wander Acheron Charon Help me out Please I just want to see my family If you can let me on your boat Then I know that I can go on home
  3. My name is Sawchen, and I'm a rapper from Northern California out of the 530. Keep an eye out. I'll be doing big shit probly.
  4. Hi all - started this tonight and was hoping for some feedback before I continue. I cannot get my head into my music at the moment, so hoping for some inspiration. This is a first draft work in progress. There is no bridge/middle 8 thingie yet, but all comments are welcomed on the music and lyrics (the lyrics need tweaked). ReBorn (lyrics and music by Richard Tracey) A flicker burning in the night I walk towards the sound of your voice Booming in my head I know that I am waiting for the moment I'm ReBorn Just like a butterfly bursting Out of it's cocoon My moment's come Can you feel it Can you see it Do you know just how to dream it Can you make it Can you break it Do you know just how to take it It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) I feel the sun upon my face As I stand naked looking out upon a world That once Knew what I was before I started thinking for myself I knew that I must rewind to a point Where I'm with you My only hope Can you feel it Can you see it Do you know just how to dream it Can you make it Can you break it Do you know just how to take it It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels) It feels like I'm feeling life For the first time (Do you know how good it feels)
  5. Hi all, it's been a while since I was last on the forums due to work and family commitments (never seem to have any time to myself at the moment - there might be a song in that somewhere!!), but I have just recorded an idea I had and wanted to know what everyone thought. It is a rough draft at the moment and the vocal is a guide for timing and the lyrics etc (I am still taking medication for my pro-lapsed disc in my back and they play havoc with my throat and voice!!). The arrangement isn't 100% yet, I've got ideas for a bit of automation and certainly more sounds and counter melodies going on in the background, but just wanted to see if I was on the right track with this one. Any critique is welcome... there isn't much going on in the mix as there is only about 5 tracks so far. I also mucked up one of the lines in the chorus near the end - just ignore..... Cheers, Richard - I'll have a listen to some of your newer tracks this week and hopefully get a couple of comments posted.... Lyrics: MY CONFESSION (music and lyrics by Richard Tracey) VERSE 1 The writing was upon the wall The past catching up with me The little white lies I once told Were starting to unfold VERSE 2 And all the people that I hurt Their tears were drowning me And the weight of all the guilt Crushed the walls I built CHORUS x2 And this is my confession This is how it's going to be This is how we're going to see All the things that save me VERSE 3 And now I wish for a second chance To show what I've become Renewed with a driving force A man full of remorse VERSE 4 On the ground upon my knees To plead forgiveness I don't want to forget All of my regret CHORUS x2 And this is my confession This is how it's going to be This is how we're going to see All the things that save me BRIDGE CHORUS to end
  6. Have you ever been lead on? Gotten mixed signals? Felt ever confused by a woman, or a man as far as their intentions are concerned intimately? Thats what this song is about. You say you're not ready, but you're standing on the starting lineRev your engine, flash your lights, The tension before the crime.I push you away, but you come back to me like rhyme. You say you’re not ready, but you're standing on the starting line. Are you coming Am I goingAre we starting our love flowingAre you comingAm I goingDancing’s starting my love flowingLean close to tell me gossip Lean away from my caressYou show me all the body looking fine in that red dressI tell you games are what you play, but then you pass the diceI let the go a winning toss but defeat is this games price. We’ve come all this way and desires in your eyesA Beautiful thing to smell and see, but dangers in disguiseWe could spend the night loving life awayI know I should be free from you if tomorrow I hope you’ll stay. Are you coming Am I goingAre we starting our love flowingAre you comingAm I goingDancing's starting my love flowingI feel you spinning roundMy heads in space feet off the groundLove it feels like poison gas I can’t breathe now without your maskRockets prepped Just count downEngines primed fuels soundLIght the fuse it's time to jetI don’t know where i’ll end up yet.Are you coming Am I goingAre we starting our love flowingAre you comingAm I goingDancing's starting my love flowing
  7. Hi all, while I am trying to get myself motivated to do some of the tracks I am working on and to stop me composing a new one each day (started 2 over the past 2 days!!), I decided to listen to some of my older stuff that I haven't bothered my backside doing anything with..... Below is a song I wrote with one of my friends who plays guitar in 2013/2014 ish. We did a rough sketch in about an hour (before we had to pick the kids up from school) and it was only about a minute long. I took that and created this arrangement and fired on lyrics and vocals. It is not complete and needs a bit of work, but it would be interesting to see what you all think. Cheers Lyrics: Come With Me (music by Richard Tracey and Graham Stephen - lyrics by Richard Tracey) Verses Do we ever find the things we want Do we ever find the things we need If we want to we can hold on tight To all we can see Do they ever have to find the time Do they ever have to dance all night If they want to they can all give in To all they can be Chorus Come with me And I'll make you see All the things we are meant to be Come with me Cause I am the key And I'm here to set them free
  8. Okay, promise this will be the last new track I'll post this week and I will get back to listening and posting comments on other people's tracks etc. I started this one today and got right into the groove with it, so would be interested to hear what you all think of it so far. It is still a work in progress and vocals are first draft. Lyrics aren't complete for the second verse part. Any critique is welcomed. Cheers Lyrics so far: Cloud Nine v1 The moment has come And you know what you've got to do (got to do) There is somewhere that you've got to go That's deep inside you (deep inside you) v2 If I could give a helping hand To wake the feeling (wake the feeling) Then we can start the process Of your inner healing (inner healing) Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine v3 (placeholder) The moment has come And you know what you've got to do (got to do) There is somewhere that you've got to go That's deep inside you (deep inside you) v4 (placeholder) If I could give a helping hand To wake the feeling (wake the feeling) Then we can start the process Of your inner healing (inner healing) Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine Bridge Listen to your heart Listen to your head Chorus Listen to your heart Listen to your head Listen to every word that's said Listen to your fears Listen to your dreams They will show you the way ahead All the little things don't mean nothing If you've got something you can bring And if you can find a way to shine You can live your life on cloud nine
  9. Hi all, I have thought long and hard about posting my first track for critique and after seeing the recent posts from MonoStone, have decided to revisit a track I started in December 2015, which I couldn't work out what to do with. This is a very early work in progress and took about an hour to get to this state. I would appreciate any critique as well as where you think the track could go - does it need something else added - what to do with the lyrics etc. There is no real mixing of the tracks at this time, so don't really know if anything sounds muddied. Anyway, any input would be much appreciated. Cheers Lyrics (so far) DESIRE And I I can see the fire I can see the desire In everything we've done And I I can see the light I can see the fight In everything you do And every dream you hold on to It means nothing to you And every dream you give away A penny for another day (the lyrics repeat - this was to give me an idea of what could come next - unfortunately, I didn't revisit the track)
  10. When you’re no longer wanted The world can feel so cruel You’d jump into a fire Just to feel the warmth you knew When you’re no longer wanted You’ll break your cardinal rules Your heart cracks wide open And will lose its lovely hue Darkness around You feel the pain inside Lost hope for ever finding That love which always hides Will you always be searching of a life you’ll never find Or will you learn to love the man The one the mirror shines When you’re no longer wanted The words they seem all true The ones that say its time to stop You won’t ever make it through When you’re no longer wanted Future days are gloom A broken mix of chances That you’ll never get to do Darkness around You feel the pain inside Lost hope for ever finding That love which always hides Will you always be searching of a life you’ll never find Or will you learn to love the man The one the mirror shines Will you learn to love , Will you learn to fight, Will you learn that love, Is really worth the fight Will you stay the course, Or will you break at night Will you learn to love Will you learn to love Will you learn to love Will you learn to love Its a new one a wrote recently .

  12. So, since I've been told I have a odd, tenor voice in a positive light, only one in a negative light, I want to know if there is a higher chance of vocalists with a odd kind of timbre being successful? Is it not or is it a coincidence that the list of vocalists below made it even with a voice that's not necessary the voice of a Angel? Geddy Lee (Must I have to say it...Rush) Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) Tim Armstrong (Rancid) Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses) Dexter Holland (Offspring) Brian Johnson (AC/DC) Greg Grffin (Bad Religion) Serj Tankian (System Of A Down/Solo Artist) Something tells me the A&R's look out for a different type of timbre. Let me know what you think.

  14. It is not enough for a singer to be able to stay in pitch and remember the lyrics to give an impressive performance to the audience. A true performer is the one who can deliver a song confidently and expressively, whether it be inside a studio or in front of an audience within a live stage set-up. There is very strong proof that the confidence of a singer on stage directly affects the quality of the vocal performance in terms of pitch, expression and power. Building confidence takes time and experience of being on stage. But there maybe a few things that you could try or keep in mind to accelarate that process. The following article deals with those tips and tricks that you could use to build confidence for the stage. http://www.songstuff.com/vocals/article/5_tips_to_improve_confidence_on_stage/ Be sure to share and like the article if you find it useful. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss it on the Songstuff Community Forums.
  15. Though it might not be an absolute necessity for a singer to have a wide vocal range, it does prove to be a huge asset when it comes to giving a powerful and emotional performance. Singers such as Freddie Mercury (Queen), Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) and Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge) are great examples of singers who've shown vocal power and range being used to its maximum potential. Even for an experienced singer, the vocal range cannot be expanded in a day or two. It needs consistent and dedicated vocal routines and the right technique used in combination. The following article presents you with a few exercises and tips to help you expand your range without pushing and straining your voice but through the application of correct and proven techniques. http://www.songstuff.com/vocals/article/3_ways_improve_your_singing_range/ Be sure to share and like the article if you find it useful. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss it on the Songstuff Community Forums.
  16. Vocal warm-ups are an invaluable practice and some would even say, an absolute necessity when it comes down to being a professional or semi-professional singer. I'm sure there is no one here who would want to settle for a mediocre performance or for something that could easily be made better with proper vocal practice. One of the most important realizations I've had as a singer-songwriter and a performing musician is that I'm able to express better and to move the audience better when I'm at ease with the songs I'm singing. While singing a song, if the singer is too worried (and distracted) about whether he or she will hit that high note or whether that vibrato can be easily sustained, then the emotional quality of the performance maybe compromised. The following article deals with a few tips and exercises that maybe used in your warm-up routine to help you deliver a powerful performance! http://www.songstuff.com/vocals/article/vocal_warm_ups/ Be sure to share and like the article if you find it useful. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss it on the Songstuff Community Forums.
  17. This is a collaboration featuring Briony, a wonderful vocalist from Australia, and Kenny on the wonderfully blue trumpet. I composed and recorded the music and sax, and Briony the lyrics and vocals. Forget Pale morning I wake whispers grey like the sky I reach, there's nothing to hold to but ghosts, guilt and regret The sound of your voice now eludes me cold lips make no sound your face burns in my memory I cry, but it's never enough I don't want to forget but losing you is... I want to forget you're gone Bury the past here where I stand six feet from my heart stil...because if I move the world becomes real and I can't pretend I don't want to forget but losing you is... I want to forget you're gone I know we are I want to forget but losing you is... I cannot forget you're gone
  18. Another song from the Messiah of Desire,,,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4X0xdXc6Ac&list=PLoolcyWFU9ELoI46BmJ1dz0cUxRK62T87 LYRICS I got a strange fascination The fashion of a regular freak A colourful complication to the pleasure I seek I got a dangerous reaction To automatically behave A delicate satisfaction with a very close shave, a very close shave, a very close shave. CRAZY CHANCES - stimulate frustrate the greater we do STRAIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES - are merely passing through THERE COMES A CHOICE - to wallow in a hole and follow what's expected to be Or fly high and turn the magic key To set your spirit free. I need a weird world of wonder That's hidden in forbidden fruit A mystery far beyond the modern civilised brute I need a right rare relation Across the old conventional wall A meaningful conversation with a very close call, a very close call, a very close call. CRAZY CHANCES - stimulate frustrate the greater we strain STRAIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES - are merely pleasing plain THERE COMES A CHOICE - to sacrifice the paradise for what's expected each day Or feel real and learn the epic way To let your passion play. I want to move every mountain Ride a rainbow in the negative night Drink deep from desire's fountain in a positive light I want to give hell for leather Make fantasy fit tight as a glove Put all the pretty pieces together in a very close love, a very close love, a very close love. CRAZY CHANCES - stimulate frustrate the greater we do STRAIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES - are merely passing through THERE COMES A CHOICE - to wallow in a hole and follow what's expected to be Or fly high and turn the magic key To set your spirit free.
  19. Thursday Night Original Song - "Recurring Dream" http://emilyandersonmusic.com Lyrics: "I woke up in the morning to a crash of thunder and a flash of lightening. I sat up thinking of my recurring dream that was rudely disrupted. In the dream I'm running from something, and my feet pick up off the ground, and I slowly rise, higher and higher, to the top of the trees, then I keep going to the top of the clouds, with a cold mist in my face. I'm thankful for the rain and I'm happy for electricity. But when it wakes me up, I remember to pray that the morning finds us alive. And dreams are barely there like memories except they never were. And when the thunder dies down I can go back to sleep, but the dream has faded. And when it returns on some other night, for the moment I'll pretend that it's real.

  21. My most recent. Called "He Is Here" This is a ballad I started to make based on piano as lead. I tried several pianos and since I am picky I never seem to get a piano I like. I ended up with a piano from Kontakt after having tried addictive keys on a song before that. I wanted the mix to be full..with low synths in the background . I wanted a female vocal in there but didn't know anyone to ask to sing it so I substituted a Kontakt female vox in the background. I almost put drums into this but decided that given the time I had to work with it I couldn't do that and it seemed ok without drums. The vocals are all mine, only melodyned in a few places. https://soundcloud.com/starise/he-is-here
  22. hi guys, I'm emre from Turkey. I'm looking for a vocalist for one of my compositions. It's an alternative rock kind and the song is without vocal now. Here is the link. If you want to be the vocalist of this song, I'll be happy. https://soundcloud.com/emre-k-l-10/emre-master
  23. (post has been edited to reflect changes.) Hello, everyone! If you saw my previous post, "Strings", I decided to take a break from that song and ended up writing this instead. Some bg: I am writing this to 'commemorate' my 2nd anniversary in my relationship, and the lyrics reflect how we both really wish everyone would just leave us alone instead of always having to comment on everything... which is hypocritical because I am writing a song about it, but heh I am dead sure I am going to keep all of the first and second verses and choruses. But from the bridge on, I have no idea what to do and the sort of rough sketch I have in this recording makes me feel a bit unsettled. I've just been listening to this song too much, so a fresh perspective on where the bridge and returning choruses should go, how I should end the song, etc, would be GREATLY appreciated. Finally, I am not a singer and much as this song means very much to me, I actually wrote it with my sister's range in mind because I decided not to restrict my songwriting to what I can sing. So please pardon the weak falsetto and other off-tune parts. Thanks for all your help! updated version: Lyrics: VERSE 1: Here we are We've come so far along But the voices haven't had their say Here we stand But things aren't always just as they were planned And all of this time We've been running from danger Voices of strangers To anywhere we'd be alone Take me CHORUS: Somewhere Somewhere between all these people Somewhere that's hidden from this world Somewhere that's made just for two ooh There we were Holding back those words We knew we meant but we feared And there we were Afraid to make our promises And there they were Their voices all around And they've been crafted to deceive Each syllable pierces the silence Where all is pure Take me -REPEAT CHORUS- BRIDGE: And the fire's burning bridges As the bridges burn our souls What a bittersweet feeling Finally we'd be alone But the story won't be over Not until it's due We'll write the rest together Take me somewhere with you -instrumental- Somewhere a place that's been made just for me and you Here we are A long way left to go And these voices won't get their way Here we are.
  24. Hi everyone, This is a song that I started and left in June when I joined Songstuff, but didn't finish till I randomly pulled it out last night. I would be grateful for any constructive criticism. Please pardon the singing! VERSE 1: I wasn't born to dance for you Or sit myself at your feet And I'm not here to sing you tunes To make you feel complete But you had me by my strings And you danced I didn't come into this world To answer your every call To move my feet to your every word Like they aren't mine at all But you had me by my strings Wrapped around your fingers And I danced CHORUS: Danced to your rhythm Danced to your tune Danced for as long as you wanted me to VERSE 2: I remember when you said It'll be okay But you know well I'm being hurt instead And you cast my words away I was young and I was free That's what I believed But I missed the reality That you decided for me You had me by my strings Wrapped around your fingers And I danced -REPEAT CHORUS- BRIDGE: Yes you taught me to fly And you watched me as I soared But only as high as you let me Now I'm yours You crushed my pair of wings Right between your fingers And I danced -REPEAT CHORUS- I'm just your puppet on a string Wrapped around your fingers And I'll dance." - - Having listened to the song, which do you think is the best song title: "Strings", "Puppet" or "To Dance For You", or any other suggestions you may have? Thanks again! squarks

I am not a very active user of this website but i always do my best to comment and give feedback on people's lyrics here. thank you in advance ! The Dawn's Light rays unveil the same battlefield of yesterday we are not ready for another for another fight nor ready for another day cuz nothing changes a life with no wonders, the pain remains a love always under the cold and rain but hey chorus I wanna swap our cold days dark nights grey mornings of our blue life X2 for a time and place we could be forever happy verse 2 I promised you better days happy place and smiley face we might just be close or far away so things will change soon or late day by day I fight my through cold and rain I want you to know that broke and low I'll still share my love with you every night and day I find myself breathing my wish goes to shooting stars out loud chorus I wanna swap our cold days dark nights grey mornings of our blue life X2 for a time and place we could be forever happy
