  1. I posted my first Blog entry for this week, Blog Writing.
  2. What is life? What matters? What is its meaning? These are questions which mankind has pondered for thousands of years. I am fortunate in that I follow a once well known philosophy called Stoicism which answers these questions. Life is temporal and fleeting. It is a moment in time and space to be savored as much as possible as it will never reoccur. It is what you leave behind which matters not what you acquire. What is your legacy? The meaning of Life is Death. You have a brief moment to do what you want, then someone else will replace you, then someone else will replace them in a never ending cycle. Let me give you an example of two very well known people. Donald Trump pretended to be a successful businessman, conned and hurt many people, rose to power, and became a plague upon a nation. Jimmy Carter was an Admiral in the Navy, won the presidency, and afterward helped many people through Habitat For Humanity actually working building houses himself. Which is the better legacy? I have done many very bad things, some of which were illegal, but I have never consciously or deliberately hurt anyone. I have achieved what I consider a small amount of success through three primary and one secondary avenues, one of them being Music, but enough to retire in comfort. Two of them, Music and Live Event Production, were directly related to professional entertainment. I played by first paid gig in 1969 at a frat party. I was professionally trained in Record Production at UCLA. My wife, Adrienne, and myself produced dozens of live events sponsored by international corporations with our company Spellbound Creative Concepts. These sponsors include Daimler, Motorola, Pfizer, Union Pacific, and the World Bank International Monetary Fund. I can document the last statement although not the first. You can request my UCLA transcript directly from them it was in 1992. I now make music primarily for enjoyment and I try to help other people as much as it possible for me do so. I do not believe in Heaven or Hell so this has nothing to do with reward or punishment, only that it is the right thing for me to do. Stoicism… I hope to leave a small legacy of doing good for other people having become comfortable, although not wealthy, myself. In five years we plan to move to a small non-tourist town on the Gulf of California in Mexico as I already speak some Spanish. This is why I write here. I make no money, I very obviously do not care what other people think of me, but I do have something to offer. Both my wife and myself have been around professional entertainment for over 50 years. What I write is opinion, but it is an opinion based upon personal experience. Take it for what it is worth. The only thing I ask is do not mistake the reason I do it. There is nothing in this for me but the joy of sharing by writing.
  3. Having been a singer songwriter performer since I can remember , I have embarked on my original mission ! I'm curious to see what everyone else is up to and how you hope to achieve it 🙏
  4. There has been progress. I hate the phrase "LIfe getting in the way". It presupposes that life being lived is in some way less valuable than stamp collecting, trout fishing, off road biking, music (whatever your interest is). Truth is, that life is what enriches our interest, through providing perspective, and to a certain extent scarcity. There has been a lot of life since my first post on this blog. Most of it very positive, and things that you wouldn't set aside to force an EP onto an unsuspecting public a few days earlier. But there has been progress. I have five new songs in various states, all in some recorded form. All are needing a lot of editing, trimming and restructuring, but the melodies and lyrical intent are there. I've been experimenting with recording techniques and equipment, trying to find the "sound" for the ep as I have made demos The writing process has been organic, in that I have not forced anything, but just gone into my little recording space and seen what happens. It is working out, and I don't intend developing any of the songs beyond demo until I have decided on the ones to go on the EP. I'm normally a record it once and put it out character. This time I am going to redraft, rewrite, restructure and see what I can achieve. The photo is my writing and demo session yesterday. I used the Zoom R8 as the notebook for recording, so that I didn't overthink things around production, but just captured the raw elements in some kind of arrangement.
  5. Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself and also maybe connect with some like minded individuals. I'm not very musically talented it must be said but I have always enjoyed the art of writing be it poetry, short essays and even a number of half finished novels. I'm mostly inspired by real life experiences and cliche as it is these are mostly of the romantic kind. Another big influence for me is literature and mythology. Books that have inspired poems/lyrics so far include Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited, Woolfe's Orlando and D. H Lawrence's Lady Chatterlys Lover as well the the two Greek Myths regarding Hades & Persephone and Eros & Psyche. I enjoy writing for the words and the sound of the words when spoken out loud if that makes sense as well as the imagery that it inspires in the minds eye. Music wise I like artists who I think have somewhat thearetical, big, sweeping sounds so Hozier, LDR, Florence + Machine and even P!ATD (the creaking of stairs with the line "creeping down the stairs" in Nearly Witches is something I adore for some reason) I haven't really shared my writings with anyone but thought the anonymity afforded by this forum would help me to do so and to gain experience in writing more and constructive criticism hopefully. Sorry for the ramble, like I said big fan of words clearly 😂
  6. Hooked There’re demons inside of me They want to take over my life They’re leached inside of me, You can see them through my eyes These thoughts of desperation Are ruling my existence I just want to make it out Without losing my patience What can I do to reclaim what’s left of it? If when life gives you lemons Are we not supposed to make lemonade? Please tell me I have one more chance One more chance to make this right If I’m just another human Who’s running out of lines And as I beg for forgiveness I’ll ask you to listen to me Hear the story of my life Listen to it one more time I’ve been taught about love I’ve been taught about hate What it’s to be Loyal and be betrayed But life has never taught me About finding myself And I stand strong against my battles Not ready to quit the game I just want to show you How much I care about this matter And I wish I could hear from you That you’ll be here until the end Until I get my act on track And I get back on my life path I am trying one last time Before I give up everything One more time I’ll do it for you One more time, this, I swear is true By: L. Leon-Elias
  7. HI all! I am finally pursuing my dream of writing and recording after some pretty tough life circumstances and my work as a non-profit founder. Glad to connect!
  8. Hello, I am a musician who would like to record an album one day. I would also like to copyright my work. I have a question about copyrighting. Is it legal to write music using Brand Name Sound Effects and Instruments and then copyright that? For example: if I am using a Line 6 Spider II Amp and a Fender Telecaster Guitar and I record an original piece of music using that equipment am I allowed to copyright that? Do I need some sort of licensing agreement with Line 6 or Fender to be able to copyright the music in my name if I use their brand name sound effects, amps, and instruments? (this question is not limited to Line 6 and Fender only) Also, what about using a drum machine in my songs and then copyrighting that? Does a licensing agreement apply? Thank you
  9. Hello guys, I'm Josh and I'm only 13. I'm learning to play guitar and I'm starting to write some songs. They could do with improving but I'm pretty proud of some and I've even made some backing to a few. Does anyone have any tips to making music in general? Because I've picked up a little from bands such as Green Day, Two Door Cinema Club and My Chemical Romance. But I think I could really improve
  10. Hi, I am Cindy from Missouri and have been writing song lyrics for about 5 years now. I have been lucky to have written with many people in several different genres and love all music. I love the whole process of making music and it is both fun and a great way to meet talented people from across the world. Cindy

  12. This may seem pretty simple but once you pay attention and tap into your mood or emotions the pay can be big. I found that when I have had some of the following emotions or mood swings, initially the reaction would be to do something other than write music. But that is s exactly when I go into the studio and start letting the juices flow. Since my attention is so focused and whatever got me distracted in the first place,I can use that focus and transfer it over into my music. I have written some of my best melodies this way.The following emotions tend to work for me. 1.Anger 2.Sadness 3.Anticipation 4.Envy 5.Love or appreciation The next time you feel any of the above mentioned and feel like doing something in reaction, sit in the studio for 30 minutes or go to your favorite place and grab a pen an paper.Like I said this is one of the tools that works for Me. Give it A shot. TheVoiceProLive.com
  13. Hello Songstuff community! I'm new to the forum and the best way I can currently introduce myself is by asking you to view my kickstarter and watch the video of a day in my life. I'd love to know your thoughts about my pledges. It is on the last leg of finishing. I have a really enticing kickstarter with a great video and I'm about 7% away from the goal. I've been reaching out to people organically, via e-mail/twitter/facebook. I have about 45 hours left. You can pledge a dollar and get the whole album. Are there any last minute pushes that you suggest? Here is the link: http://www.kickstart...-album-positive Take care, Alexander http://www.greateralexander.com
