I started guitar 6-7months ago and what i mainly did was try to come up with my own melody or something on the guitar, and I learned a few songs that I had on my itouch....but I forgot a little now...

I take guitar lessons now and my teacher teached me songs from led zeppling and the white stripes so far....i only had 2 practices with him...

he was looking through his list of songs and he has a lot of albums...and i dont know most songs he suggest but i say i do because i dont want to look stupid or anything...by the way i told him he can teach me anything...

I don't know a lot of songs really, i heard really famous ones but even those im not sure what bands they are from...thats because i didnt actually start listening to music till 8th grade and my twin found most of the songs....i only found 10 songs on my itouch by myself, and their from luck or listening to the radio in my car....im in 10th grade now...so i only started listening for 2-3 years

my teacher is young and in community college so i guess i have a lot to learn if he knows so many songs and know how to play them

the two songs hes teaching me is icky thumb by the white strips and over the hill and far away by led zepplin

I don't want to look stupid so give me some songs and bands that i should listen too, i dont care what genre it is just give what you think... and also give me songs that i should learn too

and one more question...whats a wanna be guitarist compared to a guitarist
im not saying im a wanna be though...

Beatles is always a safe bet. So is Creedence. Then if you can do some Pink Floyd acts like "Wish you were here" and Stings "Englishman in New York" you should be ready to attract women at most nachspiels.. But also: try to play the music you like yourself!

What is a wannabe? The description could fit me as well as any - I wanna be as good as Segovia or Hackett, but I'm still not quite there.

If you want some easy ones look at my link http://www.guitarand...guitar-tabs.htm I have some easy ones I play to warm up and sing along to. Will be adding more but my site is just a hobby so only one or two a week when I can.

Stop worrying about looking stupid! By far the best way to learn (I found) is to learn songs YOU want to learn, so whenever you hear a song you like the sound of, try and find out who it's by and what it's called.

I would agree with Finn on The Beatles, I've never heard of Creedance though?! Wish You Were here is definitely a classic, and if you can pull of the vocals as well you'll be have to knock the ladies of with a stick ;) (unless you are a straight lady yourself, in which case you'll be fighting off the cool guys! :P )

Without knowing what kind of music you want to play it's hard to suggest stuff - you might like punk, in which case Offspring are great for beginner/intermediate level stuff, but you might like folk, in which case Levellers and Matt Costa would be good. It all depends on you I'm afraid! get on Youtube and find music you like, then go through the related videos, maybe try wikipedia and see if that has 'similar' artists at the bottom, and ask your friends that know lots of music - everyone LOVES sharing their music, and personally I find introducing someone to a band they've never heard of is one of my biggest pleasures - ESPECIALLY if it's a band I'm surprised they haven't heard!

Have fun :)

Oh, and as for wannabe guitarists, I tend to find people mean someone that THINKS they are a guitar god, when, in fact, they aren't that great (yet - no reason to assume they never will be!). I would say it's an attitude that people take offence to usually, and as long as you don't over state your skills you'll be fine - Finn is right: Everyone who plays guitar is a 'wannabe' as otherwise they wouldn't be playing... Many famous guitarists say they are learning more all the time and don't feel they have mastered the instrument.

Hope that helps!

Rohan :)
