Acoustic Guitar/vocal Microphone Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm looking for a decent microphone that I can use for recording acoustic guitar and vocals (not at the same time). My budget would be £100 to £150. Has anyone got any good tips?

Thanks

I have a Mipro MM-707P. Used it for acoustic and vocals and the guy I bought it off of used it for cymbals (I think, something drum-related anyway). Seems to be around £60 new.

It's a phantom-powered condenser, so you have to connect it to something that can feed it.

I've heard the Rode NT1-A is a favourite for many on the budget mic level. Supposed to be great for vocals and guitars especially in a soundproofed and controlled environment. I don't have one myself but it does sound great from what i've heard.

Though this is an old thread, I figure I might as well add to the general topic here. The Rode NT1A is an amazing mic for the price and does very well on both vocals and acoustic guitar. Unfortunately, I sold mine a few months ago. As a replacement, I just got a Blue Spark. The Spark has a warmer sound on vocals than the NT1A in my opinion, but this may just be with my voice. I haven't tried it on any other sources yet. I'd say the Rode has a "crisper, clear" sound while the Blue has a "warmer, mellower" sound.

Just in case anyone is wondering about either of these mics, you can't go wrong with either. I haven't fallen in love with anything else in that price range, personally.

I use an Audio Technica AT-2020, I think for the price it was a great buy. Around $120. I believe the usb version is around $150. They may be even less by now.

I also know this is an old thread.

Hey There

I"ve been using an M-audio Nova for yrs and it is a great all around mic ! It was really cheap, but I have to have total silence in the house when I"m using it.

I dont even know if they make it anymore..well thats my 2 cents (oh I sometimes use a Shure SM 57 to mic amps)

Can't go wrong with the 57/58's. Or.. even the behringer mics have came a long way in the last few years. Their about as cheap as you can get and the quality keeps getting better and better.. I know a lot of people hate on behringer, but if you're on a budget and still need decent quality, I'd check em out. I own a few products from behringer and am completely satisfied, especially with the price I paid

I know, old thread.

I tried to use a SM58 with a cable adapter to the usb port. All I got was white noise. The driver loaded correctly and the computer and software recognized the mic, but still no go.

Went out today and got an AT 2020 usb. I know it's budget stuff, but sounds lightyears ahead of the internal mic on my laptop. I was worried that it wouldn't work with my Windows 7 as I'd read posts to that effect online. Didn't have any problem with it, loaded fine and started using it right away.

I use a Samson C01U which is a USB version of their C01 model. Came under budget and is really good.
