This one came to me over the summer. After the A/C broke.
Long Hot Summer
A/C’s broken, and the fan’s burnt out
Trying to find shade in a shadow of doubt
Tired of running round while I unwind
The truth’s right there, but I’ve gone blind
It’s the long hot summer of my decline
Spending all my time dividing yours from mine
Should have known better than to say “I do”
But who could resist…
The temptations of a girl like you
Sitting on my porch bathed in sweat
Just ticking off a list of my regrets
Swearing to myself I’d never do it again
But I know it’s more a matter of where and when
Should I feel anger, should I feel pain
Should I feel like crying like a pouring rain
Can I let you go, can I move on
Can I get lost, in another heartbreak song
It’s the long hot summer of my decline
Spending all my time dividing yours from mine
Should have known better than to say “I do”
But who could resist…
The temptations of a girl like you
Since I heard the news of you running around
The temperature’s been risin’…
But I’m feeling down, down, down
It’s the long hot summer of my decline
Spending all my time dividing yours from mine
Should have known better than to say “I do”
But who could resist…
The temptations of a girl like you

One of the best things I've seen an NC boy put out.
Is a winner?
Is there any doubt?
Is a winner?
Is there any doubt?

Good one Tom. I really enjoyed the first verse where you alternated the meaning with each line. First line was about the a/c / fan then the second was about doubt, third about running around (and getting hot I guess) then the fourth was about truth. What I'm trying to say is that you alternated between the heat and your emotional state I think...that kind of disappears and I think I wanted it to stay. Am I making any sense? Probably too tired to make a coherent point...
anyway, nice one! Will be back to check it out properly after a good sleep!
cheers,
Jamie

I read this as the the relationship cooling while the summer heat - and his frustration - is rising.
It's told in a nice way with some good lines i think.
Like this - 'Trying to find shade in a shadow of doubt' and these - 'It’s the long hot summer of my decline,
Spending all my time dividing yours from mine'.

I don't know what i'm doing but i do it anyway
