Wrote this a couple of years ago thinking back on some of the great Atlanta traditions.

Christmas In Atlanta – Chuck Hicks

I'm dreaming of a wondrous Christmas in Atlanta

Maybe a trip down to Lenox for pictures with Santa

The traditional lighting of the Great Tree

always brings out the Christmas spirit in me.

Pushing back the day when the kids are too big

to want another ride on Priscilla the Pink Pig

Wandering through the stores in their holiday trappings

soon laden with packages destined for wrapping

Packages all dressed in shiny ribbons and bows

We're decked out for Christmas from our heads to our toes

the houses all covered with sparkling lights

like welcoming beacons in the dark night

Deciding what to fix for the holiday feast

Ham? Turkey? Maybe Roast Beef?

One sure thing that's always a blessing

is a great big pan of mama’s cornbread dressing

A feast for a king or our family and friends

knowing we'll be stuffed before it begins

we'll finish it off with fresh homemade pies

then sneaking a nap just to "rest my eyes"

The churches with their programs and nativity scenes

to remind us of what the season really does mean

for God gave us his blessing long before birth

when he sent us his son as the savior of earth

The choirs are singing and the orchestras play

to help us remember and celebrate the day

when a baby was born that would one day be King

Let the voices rise and the music ring!

We thank you Lord for your wonderful gifts

our hearts grow joyous and our spirits lift.

We can see the effects in each other's face

because you shared with us your glorious grace.
