Good Songs To Learn In Key Of C Or Am?

Recommended Posts

Hey. I recently discovered that my voice is most comfortable in the key of c and a minor. I've been playing guitar for a while and I have never really found a song that I can sing well with the exception being after all by the david crowder band. I need to find more songs that I can sing. Suggestions?

Consider transposing songs from other keys.

If you dont know how to do this, just ask.

Get a capo and learn how to use it. Best thing you can do for your voice.

You can transpose a song you like even if its in another key up simply using a capo. I got mine off Ebay for less than 5 dollars. I prefer trigger style capos. UlitimateGuitar.Com can help you find the chords so you can play whichever song you like:)

Just like tunesmith said, just because a song is in a certain key doesn't mean it can't be sung in falsetto or in a lower range.  But there is one song in C I'd love to hear you sing, and that's Tina Turner's Proud Mary.  With back up singers and dancing please.  Oh and start it off niiice and eaaasy, but then make it go rough....

(Last part is Tina's words not mine)

yea , some good comments and hell of a lot of songs in your"key" but like tom said , that don't make the perfect match , start with what rudi and kayliegh said , and see where it goes , part of the fun is trying the new things playing around , having fun with what you like to do , so have at it , sure you will figure it out , but yea Kayleigh hit it on the nose for ya , cheap and a good start , when ya do please post your "proud Mary " dance routine for us !!

rock on !!

I will add another one on to "its not the key but the range". Range is more of a "how high or low" and key is more of a "do I play the sharp or flat".

That said, to help with your question, I would sit down at a piano (or any instrument really) and warm up your voice for a few min. Once you are nice and loose, start in the middle and go down until you hit the bottom, them go back to the middle and go until you hit the top. Once you know your range, you may get what you're looking for by asking "what are song good songs that don't go above "A4" or whatever.

When trying out different keys,

Capo is your friend.

Next thing you'll know, when singing your own songs, the biggest problem will be to decide what key, out of all, fits your voice the best. To complicate it further, the key you choose may not necessarily be the one that's best for the overall feel of the song. A bittersweet dilemma many of us are all too familiar with.

An example, people seem to like my voice when I hold back a little, in a lower key than I myself would choose. This I have learned over the years but to this day I still go for the all in Robert Plant style screaming on my first takes. Can't help it, it's just too much fun.

If not that, if you still want songs in C and Am, I'd say just google "Songs in the key of…" You should get plenty of suggestions. That's what I do when I'm looking for songs in a certain key for a little harmonica play along practice.
