Which Singer Do You Model Yourself After?

Recommended Posts

Not necessarily who you sound like, but who you tend to imitate stylistically.

I don't consider myself a singer at all. I sing on my tracks because it is convenient, but if there is one singer I'd say I go for it's Ian Curtis, more because of the restraint in many of his songs than anything. I have no emotional component to my voice whatsoever so not doing a lot works.

There are also hints of Ian McCulloch. Like when he does that reach down thing to hit those deeper, growly notes.

I know there's a thread that's about 'who do you sound like' but this is a little different.

I tend to imitate Gerard Way, sometimes even without trying. It's just the way my voice flows when making original music, I just tend imitate his style a bit, sometimes a bit of Bowie or Alex Turner on the lower notes.

I never found my voice. I keep experimenting. it never occurred to me to mimic someone, though I'm sure I do subconsciously. I havent a hope of sounding anything like the singers I enjoy listening to.

If I could, I would adopt vocals styles of Michael Glabicki, Cesar Rosas and Anita O'Day.

I don't try to sound like others, cause I've tried and I can't. However, I've only been really singing for 2 years, so I don't even consider myself one. My voice is too dry sounding to sound like most singers making records these days. People have told me it's unique, but I kind of hate it. However, if I find something that I like in singers vocals I'll try it, for example I love how badass Joan Jett sounds, I like how rough Taylor Momsen's voice is so rough and raspy, and how Jess Greenberg "growls" in edgier rock songs. I've tried to mimic it a bit.

I grew up listening to a lot of Tracy Chapman so I find myself trying to mimic elements of her sound at times in my (soprano) voice lol
