Hi I am John Q, been in cover bands.  Pretty successful in job world.  Few oportunities for songwrting exposure.

I have some very good expensive instruments and actually love my cheap instruments better.  Samick, home made teley, Ibanez, Gibson Les Paul, USA strat. Mex Tele, P bass, fake Hammond Techniques keyboard.   I get a real laugh at some of brand name snobs I have played with. Well the Samick and Mex Teley are my prefered axes, and the authentic Les Paul Custom is my least favorite but I still love all my guitars including the LP.

One of the most talented guitar players I know is almost homeless and plays on a Estaban guitar from KMart., He writes the most touching and moving songs.  He used to be in the same profession as me, but loved alcohol and dope more than his job and family.  He is still my friend though.

I have written many songs, a few of which I am proud of.  I approach songs with a degree of humor now, I like my angst songs the least and dont write them anymore.

I have never wanted to be like anybody in music, and when in cover bands I exasperated the members who wanted to sound like the recording.  I learned the part I would play and then changed it and made it my own.  Seldom appreciated except by other song writers who almost always liked it.

Songwriting with some humor. I like that. I make fun of people who write deep lyrics. :)

I agree Savannah unless someone is expressive enough to touch me, I don't care much for too serious and pretintous lyrics, I have done a few and I wont go there anymore.

Yes most people respond better to happy than "my life and the world is so bad".

By the way Savannah listened to your songs, loved creatures of the night  does it have lyrics in progress?

It amuses me when someone who's new to songwriting thinks that lyrics must sound like epic poetry. Or when a pop star sings some pearl of existential advice, haha. And yeah, "Creatures" has some crazy-ass lyrics that I wrote a long time ago. Ghosts and shadows and stuff like that. Definitely needs some work.
