Who Are Your Favorite Electric Guitarists?

Recommended Posts

Any style, any era, who do you think is/was iconic?

Three of my faves:

Carl Perkins for popularizing rockabilly into so many musical styles.

Jimmy Page for coming up with SO many riffs that influenced metal and rock for decades.

Steve Vai for fusion shredding and his genius use of the whammy bar.

I could name 20 others but I wanna leave some for you guys.

Peace,

TC

Good ol' Django with only 2 usable fingers on his left hand! He did more with 2 fingers than I can do with all 4.

Peace,

Whoops. Just went with guitarists. On the other hand, I do find his playing to be electric. :)

Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Richard Thompson, Gilmour, Buddy Guy, Monte Montgomery (plays acoustic electrified), Stanley Jordan, Chet Atkins, Steven Wilson, James Iha, Johnny Greenwood, Reverend Horton Heat-  There are lots more but these come to mind first.

I'm probably more in to acoustic guys like Michael Hedges or Antoine Dufour though in terms of what I like to listen to most these days. Really in to Explosions in the Sky too... Instrumental guitar driven stuff. It isn't flashy guitar-wise, but just cool to listen to.

I don't know if anyone mentioned one of the most influential players EVER (in more ways than just his performance and writing, too):

Les Paul

Also, don't forget:

Peter Frampton

Funny you mention that. I've recently (not that I could ever afford it) fascinated with The Gibson Les Paul Custom Peter Frampton. Or to name it correctly the new Gibson 1954 Custom Modified by Steve Marriott Played by Peter Frampton Signature Re-envisioned by Gibson and finished at the Gibson Custom shop.

Perhaps not as iconic but still excellent players:

Neil Geraldo (Pat Benatar)

Tommy Shaw (Styx)

Trevor Rabin (Yes on the 90125 album)

For iconic players did anyone mention:

Steve Howe

Alex Lifeson

Randy Bachman (BTO, The Guess Who)
