Can plugins emulate real hardware charm, musical tone ?

You should consider what goes in to making how something sounds.

If you have a vocal.. The quality and tone of the vocalist determines how that sounds. The microphone plays a part… The signal has its volume increased by a preamp which imparts sound.

Then we have EQs and compressor effects which we can apply. If you have a software emulation of a hard ware device its largely going to sound the same. so we're talking small differences.

Ultimately it's the sound of the vocalist we listen to. We're really down to minutiae when were looking at the sound difference between using the original hardware or a software emulation.

Most people won't hear a difference, and won't be listening to music on a device that is capable of replicating the sound to a high enough quality for the listener to hear the difference.

Also 'charm' is an emotive word and means different things to different people.
