Hi

Thought I'd see if we can get a snapshot of where people are at, and their expectations.

Cheers

It's surprising to me how many people here are professionals.

What is your meaning of "publishing"? It seems strange when asked next to "released"

Hi John

Really targetted at the different roles Publisher and Record Label. Each role controls/owns/administers certain rights. By "Release" I really mean making the music available via CD or download and the administration of mechanical rights etc.

Cheers

John

I'm heartened to see so many people here who haven't released anything and who's music is sitting on a shelf. I'ts not just me!

Haha, I thought the same thing!

and that makes three of us! :P

i find it's because i just didn't know how to compose, arrange, record, and mix, with a sufficiently low budget :P but with technology i recently learned, i'm targeting to release an album this year, still in the re-arranging process

so let's go [smiley=rockin.gif]

For me it is all for myself. It would be a dream to do music professionally, but I don't think that I will every be able to do songwriting/playing a popular music band professionally.

If anything then I can put my harpsichord skills to use and play in an old music ensemble.

I do love it when people read what a topic is about before they reply! lol

I was swaying over professional or semi professional as how I envisage my future. In the end I opted for semi-pro since I can't imagine myself every relying solely on the music inudstry to pay my rent ever again.

Not unless there is a radical and substantial improvement in how the industry operates.

I wouldn't feel comfortable signing away my songs, even if anyone did want to buy them.

Frankly, I've never had an offer I thought was worthy of me... :P
