  1. The copyright follows a person for 70 years after their death. Oh yea....they locked down real tight, lol. As they should have.
  2. What I dont understand is how YouTube's monetization system works however. Because there are several versions of it. Meaning: 1. If you do an original video/song and you turn on "monetize" on your channel, does that mean that youtube will run ads before your covers play and all of that revenue goes to you? Split between you tube and you? because I have also read that in the case of covers: 2. When you do a cover, (let's assume) Youtube's bot catches it and sends the song-owner/publisher a notification giving them three options: to either ask youtube to ask you to block it (and that's one of three strikes tolerated before your channel is taken down completely), to ask youtube to do nothing (tolerate it) or to ask youtube to ask you to share the monetization. And in the third case, I am confused: Does the monetize have to be turned on by me before even the youtube bot searches for my content matching someone else's copyright? Does it not matter if I turned monetization on and they will still ask me to monetize (by force so they share revenue) in exchange for letting my content play? Stll confused there.
  3. I wrote to about 20 artists (and their admin staff) to ask about how they go about covers on youtube without synch licenses, I read all of youtube terms and conditions and their Content ID program, read articles, etc. The bottom line is that to cover anyone's song with a video is for sure not legal without their permission, however it's tolerated in most cases especially if you do not monetize. I ll dig deeper.
  4. The way I understand this: If you do a cover, which means, you do the music of an existing/popular song (and the production and performance is yours) and you film a video yourself, you still need synch licenses from the owner/s of the song and the lyrics before uploading to youtube. I also hear that you also need mech licenses. I wonder if that changes at all (it probably does not change at all), if your intent is to not make money off of the sale of that video or mp3. Let's say you give it for free.
  5. Your accent is fine. Only cos you told me I noticed harder and heard the accent. No big deal though. Everyone will be paying attention to the beautiful song, the smooth BVs and fine production and recording.
  6. Comments as I am listening: 1. Your age, love that you're so young and doing this much already 2. I love the chord progression. Off the top of my head, distance-wise, assuming the first chord is Eb the second is a Gm? Could be wrong however I love that change. 3. I like the bells. 4. The vocal is not compressed enough. Way in the back. This is an emotional song, bring that in closer to people's ears. 5. The voice is not bad and it matches the genre of the song 6. I like how sparse the bass the bass is in the beginning 7. The drums sound good minus the hihats. They are too hot. Same for the crash cymbal. So now the vocal is even more "in the rear" 8. The piano sounds good. Overall, this is a very good effort, especially considering your age. Possibly also try to write one more segment of melody, maybe a bridge or something similar. Congrats.
  7. Research "synchronization licenses" before doing video covers guys.
  8. BFD2 makes a lot of sense. No wonder they sound great So all your mixing is done in the box? No hardware? Those Rhodes are greatly underestimated. They rock for the price. Congrats again.
  9. Hey sure, you're welcome. I just heard the song again, on monitor speakers this time (last night it was after hours so I used headphones) and also today I watched the video (yesterday I was writing as I was listening and was not watching the video). Let me add that the solo I love and this guy "can play the guitar" Also, you look like someone who should be in front of the camera. You like like a music star Hey, everything counts Too bad to hear you're busy with something else cos I think you could do music 100% under the right circumstances. However I am wondering: How did you guys do the harmonies? Was it just you, or others also (like the video shows). Who edited the song and do you know any of the tools used? Where did the drums come from? Where they real drums in a studio or a hardware/software product?
  10. 1. Love the rhythm 2. Maybe a little louder on the snare (sounds like a brush was used on the snare? or just EQing it higher at around 5K). Nitpicking. 3. Vocal= well EQed. 4. Vocal= correctly compressed 5. Excellent BVs. From all aspects. 5b. Guitars= excellently imaged. Including the bass. My HD 650s are going crazy with sounds coming from "all dimensions" 6. I like the melody. Very much actually. 7. Vocal= very well DeEssed. Whoever mixed this song knows what they're doing. 8. The only thing I dont like is the ending. Too abrupt, so many other alternative endings would sound better. Even fading out 9. I hear some room for improvement with respect to the kick drum. A more pronounced 50 to 300 cycles will benefit the song. This can possibly be achieved on the master buss, but having direct access to the kick track itself will have better results probably. Great song. Great mix.
  11. Welcome to the forums GiMusicProductions :)
