  1. Hi. I’m a guitarist based around Glasgow andAyrshire in South West Scotland, seeking dedicated and pro-minded musicians (age range roughly 25-35) for a new rock/metal band. Currently seeking: Bassist and Drummer. The idea is to start with a power trio format and expand if/when necessary. Vocal abilities (lead and backing) would be a great plus too! Style/Influences: A blend of hard rock/heavy metal/power metal/melodic rock/progressive/instrumental rock Repertoire: The aim of this band is to be primarily an original act (I am currently writing material but collaboration on new material is also welcome). However, members should be open to playing some covers too in starting out, in order to start playing together right away before working on the original material. Experience: Ideal members should have some experience of working within bands in both live performances and studio recording. I have played in a number of bands, some outside of my specialist style/genre, and have played at events at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as well as venues in the city centre and west end. Goals/Commitment: The goals for this band is to build a solid following reputation/following both in the west of Scotland and beyond, through live gigs and release of recordings (E.Ps and eventually full-length CDs). Regular rehearsal and refinement are essential to make this happen. You must also be willing to develop an overall band stage presence. If you are interested and/or would like to know more, please reply to this ad with the following info: Name/location/age Your musical background, influences and experience Links to examples of your playing Any other experience/traits that you feel would be beneficial to the development of a successful band. Thanks!
  2. We all have our own methods of creativity. Sometimes I come up with music first, or lyrics. Sometimes 2 separate ideas can be put together effectively, whether its music and lyrics or 2 musical ideas to form a structure. But its a good idea to write regularly and practice creativity, just like you practice your instrument.
  3. Best thing is to go with what sounds good. If the chorus is extremely catchy and anthemic, it can make a good beginning of the song. Or if you come up with a chorus before anything else, try it out first. It usually feels more natural to start with the first part you come up with.
  4. For practicing/teaching, I use the Boss TU-80, in live situations I use the built in tuner in my line6 hd500x. I also have a Boss TU-3.
  5. Have you heard Tori Amos's versions of 'Reigning Blood' and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'? A dark and melodic take on two heavier classics.
  6. I use medium/heavy for rock/metal playing and soloing. For acoustic playing I use lighter picks. Dunlop is the brand for me. It all depends on what you're comfortable with, and the style you play in.
  7. Welcome to the forums Stephen Quinn :)
