Songstuff Writer and Artist Development Challenges

    By john

Independent writers and artists face several large disadvantages when they are compared to signed, mainstream writers and artists.  Disadvantages that add up to making it a competition that indies can’t win. Hell they can’t even compete.   Lack of budget and poor contacts are fairly obvious disadvantages. Lack of experience and a lack of knowledge restricts songwriters and artists alike. Lack of an overall strategy, and a limited set of incomplete tactics, makes for a critical problem

Primavera's non-socially distanced, Rapid Test event produces no COVID infections

Now this is interesting for all the gigging musicians, actors and other entertainers out there. A test event that used rapid testing for COVID-19 as a way to keep people safe when attending an event. It is perhaps not a full solution but a useful step forward towards more normality for the music scene. https://mixmag.net/read/primavera-sound-test-gig-concert-show-party-news

Plans For 2021

Ok... so plans for 2020 didn’t go so well. No need to dwell on it. Time for a new plan!   2021 Songstuff plans aside, I want to plan for my music, as John Moxey, and as Deep Red Sea. That means trying to plan releases, pull together budget for these releases as well as any other people/assets needed to make it happen.   John Moxey At this stage I am planning on 2 EPs at a minimum. I have plenty tracks and I can now record them, but to release them takes budget and t

Of being lonely, and Flirting just like that

I am lonely. I search for some connection to another person, but i dont admit to myself completelly that i really try to get close to feel understanding and acceptance, and care and all i need. But i dont try too much, to feel blame. I just flirt if i can, but i am telling to myself its just this and im not getting for the result... but it is like this: i do flirt, i dont intend to really get a gf, but i leave the space opened in case i could get something better than living lonely inside.

Lets see where im heading...

Wondering why i want to talk so much a to be heard. Im not sure what this time, but let me get there.    So i think the society is not right. You can see the classes and so on in every small or big group of people. These hierarchies seem to matters everything, but what if its not totally truth? Like the everything isnt perfect.    I f*ck it. Sorry. It doesnt even matter.

I Dream Of Blue Screen

“It’s all going well...”   Famous last words. The title of the post pretty well gives it away.   Just as I got it all working together, I was touring about trying instruments out, and the DAW froze, along with the whole PC, a high pitched whine came out the speakers and I had to reboot. Within an hour it had happened another 3 times.   I suspect a dodgy VST. I hope it is a dodgy VST. At least that would be an easy fix.   So tomorrow it’s Windows 10 Event V

Migrating Music PC

If there was one pearl of wisdom I could share with you about software and content licenses when migrating your core music PC, it would be this...   AAAAAARRGGGHH!   Dear Gods of music, enough already!   I just wish that larger chunks (if not all) of the process could be automated to take some of the pain out of the process.   On a bright note, I am almost there with this stage of upgrading my studio! The core studio software and hardware is working. A fai

Hearing Range

Prompted by Steve Mueske’s blog post about LFOs I thought it worth while to talk a little about hearing range.   At it’s best hearing is quoted at about 20Hz to 20kHz, but that begins deteriorating at about age 8.    That is the range much audio gear is designed to.   Of course there is quite a degree of variation between people. The lower bound can be as low as 12Hz and the upper bound can be as high as 28kHz. That said, the human hearing is most sensitive to frequenc
