  1. I dont love myself. In fact, if i was somebody else I probably wouldn't even wish to associate with me. Thankfully all my friends are most appalling judges of character.
  2. A fellow I know on another forum (yeah, I'm a tart, but at least I'm a own-up tart) says that our phones & computers are listening to us the whole time. It certainly does happen with smart TVs, that's been a news item. So.... what we need are phone apps, and programs to stream our music back to whoever it is that is so interested in us. I know they are only looking for opportunities to harvest more money, but we are only trying to spread our music, so it all balances out nicely.
  3. I'd love to go to a car sales forecourt and just try out the sound systems. Drive away whatever contained the best one. Does it cruise control at 900 mph?
  4. John The Revelator - Curtis Stigers & the Forest Rangers PS Rob: your link isn't working for me
  5. Where do you get pennys from in America? I found the video hard to watch. His playing was annoying. I disagreed with much of what he said. When he stuck the coin in I thought it was supposed to fall free? I must have missed the point of it I suppose.
  6. Rock The Joint - Jimmy Preston & His Prestonians
  7. I am missing playing out. Due to a burn out crisis, Blown Out hasn't gigged since before Xmas. I'm still playing, but to 4 walls. Maybe this is how buskers start? Anybody need a guitarist? I'll play anything except pop.
  8. That would be good. I'll keep an eye on this. Thanks Sreyashi
  9. Playing brass might be helpful for singing. You are using your lungs & diaphragm properly. My doctor told me "you are not using your lungs properly" which means that I dont breath deeply enough.
  10. Me neither. I'm quietly spoken and have often wondered if that is why I lose my voice after singing. I only do BG vocals, yet sometimes I cannot complete the 2nd set due to this. The singist talks loud. Perhaps more crucially, he uses his natural chest resonance in his normal voice. I can do that but who can remember to do that all day? I wonder if natural singers are normally louder and constant talkers.
  11. It was obvious that the media thought they understood how modern music worked cyclically. Any new generation's youth culture would provide the 'next big thing'. It didnt matter what it was, it was supposed to speak for youth who would spend money on it. They were wrong. Artists now often look back 50 years for inspiration. Others dont look beyond TV talent shows. That media model was always a flawed concept. So they have fallen back on what they used to do, which is to take control. Result? utter pap. Musicians are also responsible for the pap of course. Even some of my music has a pap factor, which is my fault. I suggest we operate a pap-factor appraisal system in the critique areas. It could be on a vote button maybe?
  12. If I did that. it might be time to call it a day.. If I was a young American hopeful, I might aspire to rehearse in a commercial garage.
  13. A few times I have found it hard to accept artists because I felt they were too hung up on their persona or appearance. Or just not authentic enough. Elton John, Zeppelin, U2 are in there. In fact, I cant name even one KISS song. They might be a great band for all I know, but the facade is repellent. Theatricality can be different. Floyd used a lot of props, inflatables etc. Although its image specific, its about song subject matter rather than THEM. They certainly did have an image of themselves but it was not entirely unreasonable. Los Lobos have seemed quite self effacing for the whole of their long career. They often drape a religious looking backdrop behind them, suggesting catholicism, though I have never heard any of them speak of belief. Did they use image? Not that I can see.
  14. I drive a 1.3 Yaris It was a practical choice, not a lifestyle statement. It has nothing to say about my identity. Most of my life, I have driven the best value car I could find, no matter what it was. I do wear a hat onstage. I guess that is a deliberate choice of presentation, but I have no idea what the punters think about that.
  15. Ahhh... fine! As it looks as if not many of us knew about the song. Im not fed up with you. Please keep posting.
  16. its likely up to the likes of us, not that it would not take a lot of luck too, to move music forwards. The major artists are probably just going to rehash everything we know endlessly.
  17. Oh ok. We had mixed messages. I was responsible for one by saying that I was not referring to the video link. I could view that ok. I was referring to the game link. I didnt need the video link to play the game. You've now explained the rationale that most #1 hit songs are written in the garage. This not only didnt occur to me, but would never have occurred to me. I didnt know that garages were a place that anyone went to write. An unknown band might rehearse in a garage, though probably not uk artists. Writing? More likely in a bedroom I would think.
  18. I tried to find a clip of David Crosby on this subject but failed, but he appears on 'Classic Albums Anthem To Beauty Grateful Dead' saying (as close as I can remember) this of music in the 60s> The music business wasnt created for us. It was created to sell an endless stream of sh1t such as wHITE cHRISTMAS'. When we recorded, we felt like guerrillas running down from the mountains and sneaking our music in there, and running back again.... So the media tzars have reclaimed full control. It has been since the 80s at least.
  19. Since we are not being marketed or have any truck with traditional media controllers, do we still have to do thing the 'old way'? 'Image' is facile.
  20. My advice is to tell me WTF is going on?
  21. coddled is pretty good. I'm still wondering id the OP knew about the song, or whether is was a subliminal memory because it cant possibly be a coincidence.
  22. Belief is a strange thing. I'm no wiser for reading your message.
