  1. I never found my voice. I keep experimenting. it never occurred to me to mimic someone, though I'm sure I do subconsciously. I havent a hope of sounding anything like the singers I enjoy listening to. If I could, I would adopt vocals styles of Michael Glabicki, Cesar Rosas and Anita O'Day.
  2. yes it is. Few players are ambitious with slide work. The ones that do really stand out though, such as Ry Cooder and the late Lowel George.
  3. Shelter, If you were using flamenco techniques on string strung guitar I would expect serious fingernail damage. Classical would be less serious, but would really be better with nylon strings. Yes Bert used a thumbpick I think but you spoke about fingers bleeding. Maybe I misunderstood. Did your fingers bleed because of shattered nails?
  4. I have not used .008"s for 25 years. I like to have something to fight against. EB super slinky (as fitted when purchased new) for the recording electric .009" Heavier for gigging .010". Ive been considering raising this up to .011" for a long while. Its a trade off. Bending would be harder, but I would get an improved sound and feel. The only reason I hesitate is because it would throw the set-up out completely.
  5. I dont know how you made your fingers bleed through picking. Stefan Grossman had a very hard picking style, so did Bert Jansch. Bert would pull the strings so hard they would slap back onto the fingerboards with a thud. Ry Cooder (on from the field CD) broke two strings in one song. I'm pretty sure none of these pickers had this sort of problem. What sort of techniques did you use?
  6. Regular tuning is ok for slide with care. Its also ok for key changes. The easy way is to stick to D, G & B strings, but they can all be used with practice. Open tunings: open C sounds lovely.
  7. death dont have no mercy - Rev Gary Davis
  8. I'm reminded of the song "This is Hell" by Elvis Costello. there is this line... 'My favourite Things is playing again and again, but its by Julie Andrews and not by John Coltrane..'
  9. a line has been crossed for certain.... Should this be made illegal?
  10. I bet it sounds a treat. I love the sound of FTRs more than anything else. When building a sound patch on my GT5 or BR16 thats always my starting place. No substitute for the real thing but my Stage 112 needs a little help. Love to try that one of yours. What a classic.
  11. ok I got it now. couldnt make out all the words so I dont know why you reckon it needs blocking. Anyway... Jack-a-Roe - Grateful Dead
  12. Just, sadly cant see this "blocked on copyright grounds" is what it says
  13. 'Rambling Man' - Alman Brothers Band http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWH1bdm83ZI
  14. I too am deficient in some stylstic areas. Chicago Blues style is one. Those more advanced hammer on/pull off things elude me. Davis Hidalgo playing 'Just a Man' is a good example. As for country, Jerry Garcia playing 'Big River' bests anything I can manage in that style too. I may start another thread about this
  15. Another juicy tele! Great to see you want to further your technique. I'm not sure what to point you at as you seem so accomplished. Based on your description I found this stuff by Albert Lee. http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/guitars/albert-lee-on-banjo-style-rolls-156670 Enjoy that tele Mike.
  16. tooth & nail : to Lipps (lips) I suppose ? Jawbone - The Band
  17. Dupree's Diamond Blues - Grateful Dead
  18. Right. I;m not familiar with that one. Probably know the tracks though. Sounds like compilation. Always good to know what music gets to people like this.
  19. very interesting. I prefered both the look & sound of the Flaxwood though. Its about time we had more synthetic bodies. It would be much much better to have the same guitar made out of wood for tone comparison though. I wish they would do that. Rudi
  20. Other than the SD pickups, I cant make out what it is (I cannot use facebook). So.. what is this Mike?

    New Or Used?

I would try some used ones first. Take your time over it. Try a few out and do the standard sort of checks * * fret wear / neck strightness (actually a very slight and almost inperceptable inward bow) switch (pots) condition.
