  1. Tom (tunesmith) Thank you. They are: Jackson Soloist (gigging guitar) Yahama Silent (electric classical) Camps (spanish classical)
  2. I have no idea as to the value of these but they are unlikely to be strads. http://blog.feinviolins.com/2011/07/so-you-think-you-found-stradivarius.html Find a luthier and get an informed opinion. Good Luck Lisa
  3. I,ve had it. Ive just spend 30 minutes preparing pics for this thread. I edited them down to small GIFs and pasted them in here, only to be told 'that extention is not permitted on this site'. bollox I have uploaded them to gallery, but the cropping that occurred is awful.

  7. I have the same problem and I only sing BGs. Learning correct technique is the best way forward. I was amazed to find there was so much gen on the subject. If proper technique doesnt allow you to sound like you want to sound, I suspect that you are stuck with an unenviable choice. There are good trained singers here. I hope one looks in with better advice. I will check back too because this interests me a lot.
  8. I always found the song dull. I realised it was not a patriotic song, but it never stopped people treating it as though it was. Perhaps it was treated as a simple song because it sounds like a simple song. Could be a good way to slip something past the censor? I was more interested in the reference to 'Louie Louie' which I played in a scratch band once. I never realised those lyrics were controversial.
  9. Is it called that because you're looking down at what you're doing? (as opposed to posing or jumping about)
  10. Enjoying these guitars.
  11. Standing On the Moon - Grateful Dead
  12. It wasnt my choice. Music choose me. But it wasnt easy to get started. My dad refused to indulge any of my musical needs. I wasnt allowed a guitar. I didnt even get a record player until I was 15. Even then a friend gave it to me. The following year I bought my first guitar with my first months pay.
  13. That gets the prize fro my money. What a creepy looking bunch of fellers. The title is creepy too (yes I do get what it means).
  14. Old Gretches can command pretty good prices. Oddly, many new ones are surprisingly cheap. DO you have any idea what model it is? The G6120SSC has been selling well ever since Brian Setzer used one in the Stray Cats, and the ltd (59 only) re-issues are going for silly money (try £12,000). It sounds like a nice project even if it doesnt fetch much. Oh yes amps.... You wont do much better than a Fender Twin Reverb IMO.
  15. I find these retro style covers appealing. The 1st is actually old. The other just retro styled.
  16. Jesse James - Copper Mountain Band coppers are both coins (UK) and a metal, as is nickle.
  17. The Yes & Osibisa albums perhaps, but pretty much all of them.
  18. Isnt that the Penelope Pittstop signiture edition?
  19. for my money, those Roger Dean LP designs of 60s-70s have not stood the test of time. Once regarded as cool, they now look pretentious. (Not the music though right?)
  20. After some years I got to a point where I build chords / harmonic structure out of what the music suggested. I longer cared much about what to call it. In other words the intuitive took over from the theoretical. This is significant, because by ‘not bothering’ to incorporate what I found into my existing understanding of theory, I was effectively abandoning that theoretical structure. The melodic equivalent of this would be to play the notes in your head rather than sticking to a scale/mode. I am not advocating this as an alternative, nor as an ideal. I didn’t even consciously decide to work this way. I did however consciously decide to allow it to continue once it began to happen to me. The upshot of this is that when communicating to other musicians, I have to pause to figure out what to call those chords. Having said that, were I to get into the Wes Montgomery type mind set, I would have no choice but to resurrect the theory pretty damn quick! I wish to put the record straight on one matter though; especially to young musicians starting out. Just because there are talented unschooled musicians out there, does not mean you should lightly abandon theory as a path choice. Doing your own thing is not an ‘easy option’. Those untutored people worked just as hard to achieve their levels of excellence.
  21. Is Woman Tone some sort of in-joke? There is a 'Woman Tone' patch on my BR1600 recorder. It's a usable patch, which is more than can be said for most of 'em.
  22. I had a maple neck strat. I loved the look, but never got on with the shape and feel with it. Not even after playing it for 25 years. It may have had more to do with the design and scale than the wood. It was hard & slippery and not even 25 years continuous play broke through that laquer. It stood up to my downward string bends though. My nails have gouged ruts into the soloist's frets.
  23. Does the look of the guitar matter a whole lot? and even if it does; does it suit you? My guitar looked a hell of a lot better played by a guy who jumped up to do a couple of songs at a wedding a while back. Why? He was tall. A little over 6ft. I am 5ft 8.5" and it looks a bit oversize on me. I think this is why Michael J Fox (who is short) used a peewee model in 'Back to the Future'. A lot of us dont play live I know, so it may not matter so much to you, especially if you sit down to play. or does it? Some bands seem to like to develop 'a look'. The axe then also becomes a fashion accessory.
