  1. No. You're spot on ! I (impishly) have suggested that long songs are better. I was being less than serious but scrupulously honest too PS I'm getting impatient for a better album than 'Live Dead' to turn up. Its been 44 damned years now. Come on you slackers - Raise your game.
  2. Than everything else of their time
  3. Take any piano piece to a MIDI keyboard, and change the voice to Orch-Stab, then Metal-Guit, then Jews-Harp, then Pan-Pipes. and listen to these all through with the new sounds. Do this with a different piano piece every day for a week, and you will fall in love with the piano all over again.
  4. The favourite albums of my youth always had the fewest tracks. Such as Ummaguma - Pink Floyd Live Dead - Grateful Dead Islands - King Crimson Of course they were not commercial. That's why they were so much greater. When your dealing with numpties with the attention span of a sparrow, you're gonna get 'The Birdie Song' (or endless variations of it).
  5. excuse me.... ....that's my mother on the phone
  6. What's up with 'Mother'? Ok, its not up there with 'Tea in the Sahara' or 'King of Pain' but it has a great riff, scale and sound. The lyrics are impassioned, insightful and thought provoking.
  7. 7 of my selection I have on vinyl. The others are too recent. I was able to leave out a lot of stuff because they are already burned into my head and can be replayed at any time. 'Live Dead' and 'Kiko' being 2 examples. The jazz & classical stuff I chose will withstand a lot of replays, because they will take a lot longer to 'burn in'.

  10. Keep 'em long then. You are the best judge of your music. My last one was 7:29 and to be honest it didnt need to be that long. But it was better that long. If people tell you otherwise, then worry about it. Your own instincts are your best guide.
  11. Thanks for looking. Blown Out is just a covers band though. Myself & the singer are the only ones into original songs.
  12. I tried with Mac osX and also Windows 98. I wasted a wedge of money trying to get 98 working, but was compelled to give up on both. I doubt I will try again.
  13. Hi, The obvious question is what is the perspex panel about? Have you ascribed key functions to it or is an actual instrument?
  14. The Inchworm - John Coltrane Quartet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRlyN_Gkqbo (from a favourite old album)
  15. Every now & then I make or buy a percussion instrument to use for recording. I have a shaker, a guiro, a tambourine and a (steel belled) vibraslap. I have made a vibrating spring coiled device which is still not quite right (not enough sustain). Two coiled door-stops are screwed into a drawer (a box with 5 sides instead of 6) and plucked. The guiro takes the most skill to use. Its so much more satisfying than using samples.
  16. Nice ideas. I love the keyboard noise. I have been struggling to get this sound using a guiro. I'm going to give the keys a go. Thanks.
  17. Because Jackson insist on fitting the damn things & Ive yet to find a build quality & neck width (they are wide) to compare with a Soloist. The wide neck allows me to fingerpick (easier) among other things. Yes I have blocked the one I gig. This enables me to fret the top E & B string while bending the G a whole tone. If I try this with an unfettered FR, the E & B will go horribly flat as the G is bending. FR systems are designed for players who want to pick one string at a time. Given the high distortion levels most FR model players want, they don't have much choice anyway.
