    Guitar Picks

Ah Vaduman, As an old machine shop miller, I recognise your condition as 'rusty fingers'. A few people have this problem. Bad luck for a guitarist though.
  2. Blame me for directing the discussion here. Drummers should know time best. That's why. This is still a weird one to me though. I cant determine what the time signature is.
  3. I have never heard of anything like it. It might be worth re-posting (or linking) in the drums part of this forum. They are more likely to have an informed opinion than most of us here. Sounds interesting. Good luck Rudi
  4. Night in the City - Joni Mitchell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_NnNIW7aRc
  5. Good question. I would imagine not, but I hope you can.
  6. Dave. The the U.S. Copyright Office is one that I was thinking to be essential, though I could take the opportunity to include more songs (they would be quick recordings though) as the fee is the same I believe. I have just registered at PPL for ISRC only (so far. I will add other 'right' later). I used PPL as John's blog identifies this as a UK option. Thanks for advice Dave, also for links. Rudi
  7. I have read everything in John's excellent blog http://johnmoxey.blo...r-songs-on.html But still need to read & digest the links first where more detail is gone into. How many people use all of these copyright methods? Would one or two be enough? I dont intend to make any money out of my compositions. I just dont want anyone else ripping them off & claiming authorship. Rudi

    Song Protection

Whoop. Just realised there is a dedicated area for this. I will repost there...
  9. I have at last completed recording a song but am loath to post up before I get some copyright sorted. I have read everything in John's excellent blog http://johnmoxey.blogspot.co.uk/2011/07/what-to-do-before-posting-your-songs-on.html But still need to read & digest the links first where more detail is gone into. How many people use all of these copyright methods? Would one or two be enough? I dont intend to make any money out of my compositions. I just dont want anyone else ripping them off & claiming authorship. Rudi
  10. I would love an authentic Spanish guitar. Hand crafted by a dedicated guitar luthier. The research would be consuming and might take me abroad (Spain very likely). Affording one would be difficult too. I would expect no change out of £4,000.

    Guitar Picks

Plenty of us fingerpick, but the poll only concerns picks (plectrums).
  12. Is Jennifer still here? How is she getting along?
  13. Pearl of the Quarter - Steely Dan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GM8vnIZFw0
  14. I find that hard to understand. I think its difficult to know what someone is playing by watching unless is is very basic.
  15. I'm happy to write something that would represent the AS in any suitable way, but not on an ongoing basis. The way I see it, I can just make my tunes freely available, or ask for either a small fee or voluntary contribution for a worthy cause. I'm examining my options.
  16. Mike, I never realised this, but perhaps I should of done. I normally need a few moments of quiet in order to recall the details of a song properly. I am far less good at learning my ear than I used to be. I surmise that its because I rarely do it now. But my process was always listen closely to the music, then turn it off. Once its off, listen to the part you retain in your head to inform the playing.

  18. David. Good answer. I never even thought of that. I will be contacting the AS shortly to get thier views on this (generally). Thanks for responding. atb Rudi
  19. OK, I have been making music for 40 years, but have never tried to market, sell or publicise it. At such time as I do. I want any & all proceeds to go to charity. Specifically, the Alzheimer's Society. I have read a bunch of stuff in here and to be honest, it’s off putting. A lot of work for almost nothing. I know nothing about twitter, facebook makes me feel paranoid and youtube refused my application because they didn’t like my picture (yes really). Also, my mobile phone doesn’t do internet. I have just enough energy to make some music and none for learning all this other stuff. Should I give up now and save time later? Rudi
  20. I have a similar range & timbre to that of a White Leghorn chicken. http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/Day-Old-Baby-Chicks/White-Leghorn-p227.aspx
  21. Tab, It sounds like you already know that the guitarist has spoiled your song and that you are looking for validation before speaking up about it. I entirely agree with you. You need to speak up for yourself and get the song back on course. The A chord flattens the 3rd of the scale (changes A# to A). I wont at this stage suggest a new chord pattern for you but let your guitarist know how you feel. You definitely should not have to modify your melody. Rudi
  22. I hate metronomes. I can’t ignore the sound of them and they dash my ideas to pieces. Also they have a tick-tock structure that messes up any chance of imagining a time signature that is not evenly devisable. How could you write a waltz that way? (ok, ok I hav’nt written any waltzes but maybe that’s why there are no new ones? It all the fault of those damned metronomes). They are ok for polkas I suppose.
  23. The Holiday? No, but its on a mental list of stuff to watch with my better half Jan. We are finding movies a bit difficult to get hold of lately. We changed TV / ISP recently and dont understand why we have lots of films 'visable' yet unavailable. Rental places are all closing down, and we dont do piracy. I suppose its time to re-visit the library.
