  1. When you say it “sounds nothing like”, can you say more? Imagine contacting a motor mechanic for a quote and when he says “what’s wrong?” You say, “It won’t go”. So, as best as you can describe... in what way does it not sound as expected? Pitch? Tone? Distortion? Something else? It will be a guess anyway, but the more info, the closer or more informed the guess will be.
  2. Hey I was just reminded of this video today. Thoughts?

A very worthwhile watch.
  5. Hey John Welcome to the Songstuff family! Great to have you here. PHP and MySQL? Watch out or the site staff will try and rope you into something technical. They are a cunning lot
  6. Great. Good to know when they are useful
  7. Hi and welcome to the Songstuff family Creative sparks can be cultivated, made more frequent too. Even the way you write can encourage ideas and exploration, or shut them down. I was recently talking it’s @Taking Notes about just this and I suggested some exercises and changes in approach to help. So far it seems to have had a positive effect. Taking part in a community is a useful component... but as important, is the way you take part. Anyway, great to have you with us
  8. Hey Mikel, Welcome to the Songstuff family! What benefits do you hope to get from being a member? What are your goals for your music? I don’t mean it to be an interrogation, but we can’t help if we don’t know. Cheers John
  9. Hi Theres's an old topic kicking around about what DAW members use, , but I thought a poll would be a better way to get an idea of member preference Ableton - Live Adobe - Audition Apple - Logic Pro X Avid - ProTools Bandlab - Sonar (free) Cockos - Reaper Harrison - Mixbus Imageline - FL Studio Magix - Acid Pro MOTU - Digital Performer Presonus - Studio One Propellerheads - Reason Steinberg - Cubase Other: Acoustica - Mixcraft Apple - GarageBand Audiotool - Audiotool (free online) Bitwig - Studio Magix - Sound Forge Magix - Samplitude Mutools - Mulab Renoise - Renoise In addition to your poll answers, please tell us of your choice of DAWs, why you chose the one(s) you use, why you might have switched or be thinking of switching. Cheers John

  19. Hey Alex, welcome to Songstuff! Good luck with finding some band members
  20. As an artist I’d love to see some of your drawings. I have posted a few of my drawings on here. As to the piano... one of my friends took up piano as his only real instrument (other than a tortured guitar chord or two) in his 30s. Within a couple of years he was playing in bands. I keep learning new instruments. It is something I have always enjoyed Constantly expanding skills and understanding... it just doesn’t get old for me.
  21. Hi and welcome to Songstuff. Sounds like you have some good motivation to help you work hard. It’s no get rich quick scheme, that’s for sure!
  22. I do make indie music, though by far recent years I have focussed on helping other artists... through SOngstuff and through personal connections, and now via an indie co-op label. At the lower end of the market, direct sales is definitely the way to go. Bring in some money (that you can use to finance fan base growth) until numbers are significant enough to make a dent in streaming and digital download platforms. That said, it is still a good idea to be on those platforms from the get go. Use a low cost ditribution platform to be present in those platforms.... however... as an artist with less than 3,000 fans, growing your mailing list is the priority, for many reasons. I would suggest focussing on direct sales up until about 10k fans. Just my 2 cents
  23. Hey Randy... it’s just one reason that for Indies, building a fan base and direct sales is far better. Other income methods are still valid, just not the most profitable.... though they do become more viable as your fan base increases. btw sorry for not answering your PM yet! Too much crap going on mate. I will go take another look now. Cheers John
