Ha ha ha!

Hi Matt.Welcome to Songstuff.

Hi Paul. Welcome to Songstuff. We used to have a few guys from your neck of the woods here. Pilfa Confession Box. Ever hear of them?
-
It's getting silly now.

Welcome. Where you from? What you in to?

Good old typo. Late again!
-
Well done guys! Funny stuff!
-
Not as easy as it sounds!
-
I'm going away tomorrow! Not sure I'm gonna have time for this?

I think there will always be 'stars' but not like we've seen in the past. The world has changed, not just the music business. Gone are the days when you would 'save up' to buy a record. In my younger days, buying a record was a big event! It would be planned ahead. Then a trip into town, a listen to a few tracks in a booth! Then a bus ride home and the rest of the weekend pouring over the sleeve notes whilst listening to the tracks on a little mono record player! If you bought the right record, it got invited to parties with you as a courier! Now, you just download it from somebody that bought it!

Serious topic tho' huh. Interestingly, we were drawn to the negative or difficult side of the article when there is a wonderful side to it too. I don't know why i did't write about the giving, nurturing true nature of the article but instead chose to focus on the horror experienced by this family.
Maybe it's a good thing that what we found shocking was the violence and not the caring.
Tom
It had been my intention to take this from the incident to the hope, but I never could get to it! Again, the time constraint worked against me. I found I was forcing myself to revisit this when I was completely removed from any feelings of creativity! It was an interesting challenge! I shall be interested to see what John comes up with for this weeks challenge!

OK. Here it is. I am not completely happy with it! But the time restraints were an interesting challenge!
I Can't See The Point
The children scream in innocent glee
Chasing each other, one two and three.
Touching the shoulder then running away
Barely keeping excitement at bay
The elders are watching, the parents aware.
enjoying the moment of days without care
Running and laughing, skipping and jumping
Then sitting exhausted, hearts all a pumping.
But storm clouds are approaching
and the innocence will end
And a rain will fall
That could kill us all
So why must we pretend
And we can't see the point of it all.
And our dreams have been shattered
And thrown against the wall.
And we fear for the future,
and the lagacy we leave.
I wonder now, who sees the point?
A dark day approaches, soon to be here
Innocent bystanders, so unaware
Danger that's simmering, changing the day
blowing normality far far away
The fear and the mayhem, choking the air
A father and husband lost in despair
Holding her closely, shielding the hate
A world changed forever, a victim of fate
The storm clouds have gathered
And innocence has died
And a rain comes down
And we all could drown
'cause the politicians lied
And we can't see the point of it all.
And our dreams have been shattered
And thrown against the wall.
And we fear for the future,
and the lagacy we leave.
I wonder now, who sees the point?

I'm still working on mine! Struggling a little but I'll post it up this evening.
That looks pretty good to me Tom!
-
Welcome.
-
How are we doing then? Anybody up for this apart from me?
-
That 6 looks like a five from here!

This challenge is open to everyone. Submissions can be anything from a full song, a lyric, a poem or any other artistic form you may choose to submit.
This weeks topic is a newspaper story. Because of the sensitive issue, your respect is requested when penning your prose!
That's it! You have a week to post up your efforts!
Good luck.

There has been talk on these boards of competitions and contests to get the grey matter working etc. We have therefore decided to open up a 'Weekly Challenge'
How it works.
Each week a 'Host' will decide on a subject. This can be from a newspaper article, a Photograph, painting or anything the host decides! We then, as brilliant songwriters and lyricists, write and submit a song/lyric/poem whatever? relevant to that particular subject, within the week.
Each week will require a different 'Host' so names will be listed here in this thread. If you would like to be on the list? Please reply by clicking the 'Quote' button and add your name under the last entry inside the quote tags.
If you choose anything that you do not own the copyright to, i.e. a newspaper article, painting or photograph, please only supply a link to that particular choice.
DO NOT POST COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL in your thread. It will be removed.
If you are unsure about something, please contact a member of staff.
The weekly challenge is to get us all thinking and writing. There are no prizes.
Each contributor should comment on each contribution from others.
This is not a critique thread. If you want a song/lyric critiqued, post it in the appropriate forum as well as in the challenge thread.
Entries can be full songs with music, or just a lyric or poem, or indeed any other artistic form you might decide is appropriate to the topic.
Good luck! And have fun.
The first weekly challenge will start on Monday April 5th. And I shall be the host!

Welcome to songstuff. Nice ambition. Not so easy to achieve. But good luck anyway!

I think those that play live regularly are the ones most likely to succeed. Gathering a fan base and loyal following appear to me to be the likeliest option of 'selling' your music/merchandise! Having an online presence and mailing list to inform fans of upcoming gigs etc should help. If you are a songwriter but not a performer, then the best option might be to ally yourself with a promising band/performer that is interested in using your songs!
