I heard these lines the other day. Not sure who wrote them, or even if I am quoting them correctly!
"You only have one life, so don't think twice!"
Brilliant!

I hope you dance.

I think you're all listening to the wrong radio stations! Tune in to Planet Rock or any Rock station and you'll hear Rock! There are some great bands coming out of Scandinavia! And there are so many Rock gigs doing the rounds as well! I don't mean AC/DC or those bands, but New bands. If you listen to the popular radio stations, you're going to get 'popular' music! Get out and find something new. I recently went to see 'The Answer' and The Union' Two cracking bands who are great live! Rock should be listened to Live.

You'll notice however that all those songs have different melodies? Makes all the difference!

Wow! Now, that's a good one! Loving it!
Linda
Yes, the whole song has many lines that make you think, but that one is the one I wish I'd written. It says so much with so few words.

Get loads of fuzz and distortion and reverb and just hit everything! Anybody can do it.

If you intend buying a solid state amp, I would suggest plugging into a few at your local music emporium. This may sound odd being that you intend playing metal, but look for an amp that has a very clean and quite sound. By quiet, I mean not hissy or loads of white noise. I would imagine your sounds will come from foot pedals so a clean sound is what you need! Look for used equipment, you'll probably get some good deals on almost new stuff! Guitar players generally like to have valve amps, and if they start with solid state, they pretty quickly move up to valves and you'll find some some good deals around. I have an old H&H solid state amp that I used to use when I played. I used it for about ten years in various bands, it was pretty well used when I bought it, and I haven't played in a band for over twenty years. It's still here sat under my desk, and it still works perfectly!

I first joined Songstuff back in May of 2003. It was still developing at that time, but the seed of a great idea germinates quickly. The ethos of the site has flowered into a magical place for musicians, songwriters and lyricists alike. The atmosphere is second to none and a friendly welcome awaits any and all who enter it's doors. No matter what stage of accomplishment you have attained, whether just starting out, or seasoned pro, you'll get good advice, and excellent critical examinations from your peers. It's a remarkable place with an excellent team of writers, moderators and staff, and run superbly by the 'Guvnor' John Moxey. I would, and do recommend this site to anybody wishing to dip their toes into the tepid waters that is the world of songwriting! (Towels are chargeable) Please do pop in for a chat! Or just to read some of the fantastic articles on offer! It's all free!

Stay alert, Steve. That means you are due!
Too late for me now! I can't play like I used to. Hands are a bit buggered! Never mind! There's always gigs to go to.

I don't believe I've ever been in a position where an opportunity has presented itself?

Thanks Steve. Yeah that ghost thing was pretty weird.
Wish I had more time for video. I've just got a new camera too but I'm holding off playing with it because of course it comes with the obligatory instruction manual from Hell.
Well being a bloke, I'm not exactly sure what they're for? So, if you're having any problems, post it up here and all the blokes can offer up differing opinions as to how to continue! Have you tried whcking it against the table...?
-
Record the metronome on a seperate track, not whilst playing along to it.

I keep an eye on your videos now and then! You have a knack for editing. Some interesting stuff! Especially that ghost!!!

About bloody time!

I'm downloading this now. Gonna try it on my old PC. Thanks for the heads up!

I think Toms point about posting the lyrics here was more a way for us to answer the question you posed. Obviously you are quite right to say that the average listener of the song will NOT have access to the lyrics. But then again! You're not asking for their advice/input! I had a listen to the song and, like Tom, I couldn't get a definitive grip on it! But you say this was recorded in one hit? Personaly, I don't think it matters what the structure is! If it's a song that people can relate to, then it's a good song! I have been listening to some songs lately by prog rockers. And frankly! I can't fathom any kind of structure at all! Except the beggining, all the stuff in the middle, and the end!
Interesting subject!
-
If Lazz were here, he'd point out that the structure you've adopted, i.e. ABCD - ABCD is perfectly acceptable! And that what you call a 'Chorus' isn't anything of the kind! If the structure of the song is as you say it is, ABCD and that repeats, then that is fine!

Welcome Lani.

There has to be room for both styles surely? Why discard 1 style over another? Practice with both I'd say!

I have a background in music, 6 years of concert/jazz band so I can read/compose sheet music if there was a gun to my head but mostly I just make music on the computer and I go off of my ear rather than knowing the chords behind it. [huge run-on sentence]
