Lyrics
There was a time when we were blind
We believed that everything would work out fine
We know now nothing comes for free
It’s been laid out plain to see
Why doesn’t everybody lend a hand
The world’s being stretched out like a rubber band
There’s a point that will soon be passed
And it will snap far too quickly to grasp
We don’t care for Nature we continue to rape her
A sweet paradise, but it’s not here for free
Wild place destruction concrete construction
But just turn your head and you don’t have to see
The big men are saying “You’re wrong to be praying
It’s a natural cycle today.
For whatever the reasons for these strange altered seasons
Nothing bad will be coming our way.”
Winter has stopped coming round
The summer sun seems to hang around
The wind and the rain are much stronger now
But no-one’s asking why or how
The seas have started rising now
Mountain tops and icy caps are all melting now
But nothing penetrates our daily grind
Because ordinary things fill our minds
Our numbers keep growing, our libido ain’t slowing
I can’t shake the feeling that it’s all going wrong
The money is flowing though everyone’s knowing
We’re playing the tune of our own funeral song
It’s all milk and honey when you wallow in money
And believe what you want to believe
Because seeing what’s right keeps you sleepless at night
Turns your mind makes you roll up your sleeves
There’s so much to fix in this house made of sticks
A house that is owned by a clown
We could fix it with ease but can’t see the wood for the trees
Is that why we cut them all down?
The joke’s on us in this Comedy of Life
If you didn’t laugh you’d surely cry

Bio
Greg Barnett was born and raised in the UK. He was taught piano from age 6 and learned guitar by himself from age 13. He emigrated to Australia in 1981 to further his career in IT.
Along with a friend, he wrote his first song at age 50 and the subsequent flood of creativity led to the 12-track album “Not All It Seems” (2002). Once retired, he and another friend taught themselves home studio production from scratch. His own setup was Pro Tools on Windows. They wrote, performed and produced the 12-track album “Prescient” (2015).
“The Flat White Album” (2020), was his 30-track solo project for writing, performing, recording, arranging, mixing and mastering.
Sucked dry of new material, he created “Not All It Seems REDUX (2021) at the height of Covid, his home-studio re-imagining of the original album from 20 years prior. The focus was on arrangement and production.
He has since completed several singles, either solo or with a friend, and has created music videos for all his 50+ tracks. These are narrative rather than performance, and he devised the visual storylines, finding or creating the images, and editing in Resolve.
His website www.clancys.com.au/music contains information about each album track, behind-the-scenes stories, the Songbooks, independent reviews, and links to the videos and main streaming platforms. His video channel is https://www.youtube.com/user/1Clancys
Greg recently started a Podcast: TOSOTT – The Other Side of the Tracks ... https://open.spotify.com/show/6VUFSRE2aeVvOkWuGxJySq about audio production, focusing on projects completed, and invites anyone (YOU?) to tell a story with audio extracts for illustration.
