Why Poets are Poets

It may be genetic fling, but more than that

I believe the poetic soul is a developed thing

Starts when you are young, goes till you're old.

Poets always look for truth to unfold.

Some write helter- skelter, no style or direction.

Some are very learned souls

Wise beyond their apparent age

Their words those of a learned sage.

Some write for cathartic relief

Looking for that inner peace.

Some will never be understood.

Others write for the greater good.

Perhaps one thing poets have in common

They don't write just for their own enjoyment.

Their feelings have to be turned into words

Words that hopefully will be understood.

Poets are in love with the language

Always trying to tell a story

With clever words they employ

Filling others with their joy.

Not everything is set to rhyme

Free verse and prose used much of the time

Whatever you're feeling, spit it out

Finding the right words are what poets are about.

So, If you're willing to bare your soul

You'll find poet friendly people here

Who relate to how you feel

Never be afraid to be bold.
