Good Ideas For Promoting A Band?

If I was anywhere near as competent with social networking, promoting, and things along those lines as I was with playing drums and writing music with my band I would probably have already created a decent buzz about my band.

So tell me, what do you do to help promote your band via social networking, creating a buzz/hype and catching people's attention that doesn't include gigging.

Yes, it's very well understood by myself that gigging is integral to creating hype, but I just wanna hear what other people do with other forms of media!

Creating a buzz using social media is something all bands should strive for.  If you want to get people talking about you on social networks then you have to keep your accounts updated on a consistent basis.  Shows people you are having fun and show people that you love what you are doing.  Communicate and respond to all fans and create relationships with them.  Most important of all, post quality updates that people will actually want to share with their friends.
