Every now & then I make or buy a percussion instrument to use for recording.

 

I have a shaker, a guiro, a tambourine and a (steel belled) vibraslap.

 

I have made a vibrating spring coiled device which is still not quite right (not enough sustain). Two coiled door-stops are screwed into a drawer (a box with 5 sides instead of 6) and plucked.

 

The guiro takes the most skill to use.

 

Its so much more satisfying than using samples.
