Hello And Help...

Hi everyone... A quick introduction.

My name is Steve and I'm NOT a songwriter. So what brings me here?

Well some time ago just prior to hitting the ripe old age of 50, I drew up a bucket list of things to do before I die. For reasons unbeknown to myself, one of my ambitions was to write a song and hear it sung. Now the biggest drawback to this rather ambitious plan is that I have no musical talent or accumen whatsoever. What I may have is a modicum of writing skill. I have written several plays, two of which have been published and have written several poems.

My question therefore is whether it's possible to write lyrics for a song when you have no understanding of music and how it works in respect of creating a song?

The only way I can think my goal could be acheived is if I could find someone to put music to my lyrics and was wondering if there are people out there who would be willing and able to attempt such a thing.

Apologies if this sounds somewhat half assed, but wasn't sure how else to tackle my dilemma.

Hi Steve,

 

You don't need to know anything about music to write lyrics.

 

Just find someone who is good at writing melody and chord progressions and you're good to go.

 

Personally, I almost never write like that. The music comes before the words but there are plenty of people who do.
