Spirits In The Material World (The Police) - alternative version

Hi everyone. This is a collective work of my band. We started working on this cover song 4 or 5 years ago. At that time we only wanted to have some fun playing in our rehearsal room. We were not planning to have a proper production.

 

Any of us brought something, a riff, a solo, ideas for the structure. It grew up very spontaneously but it took a long time before we could say it was completed.

 

And after that moment we kept on changing the structure. This is the final version we decided to record. 

 

We changed it so many times that we are not sure that this one is the best version. Our friends like it. I'd like to know your thoughts about it.

Very well performed. Tight. Moves from lower intensity parts to higher with real control and power. The vocals are strong. Production sounds very professional. The ways you ultimately decided to reshape the music are absolutely satisfying.

 

One of the best covers on here in a while, and this is a strong board.

 

Hope we hear lots more.

One of my favorites from you guys!  I LOVE The Police!  And, I love this song!  This one has a really good feel - captures the essence of the original, but uniquely yours.  Vocals, guitar solo, everything great!  Love the abrupt ending, too.

That video was awesome, Roberto!  You guys are doing really good stuff!  I'm curious - do you ever do original songs in your native Italian, or even Italian covers?

Not as a band unfortunately. We really don't have any time left. I used to write originals in italian and I'm going to record some of them starting from next year (this year will be only for covers).

 

Italian language is not good for rock music. Only few lyricist can properly write on this music style. 

 

We have (and had) a lot of amazing songwriters in Italy (Franco Battiato, Paolo Conte, Fabrizio de Andrè, Enzo Jannaci and many many others), but they all have a very personal style. And no public would be interested in a re-working. Every now and then someone tries. Maybe one day we will also try.

 

By the way, if you don't know Franco Battiato here is one of his works. He is a real genius and this one is a masterpiece (here he also sings in arab and mixes Arabic-inspired music with Italian song and classical tradition).
