Hi Fonda, I just joined the website as well. Glad to meet you here.

 

While the microphones that Glammerocity have shared are a great small diaphragm condenser microphones, I would suggest a large diaphragm condenser microphone for recording vocals. There are many different affordable ones that you can find online.

 

I personally use an Audio Technicha AT4033 for recording vocals. It was given to me by a friend but looking online the run between $200 and $400. I also own a Samson MTR101 that I bought for under $100. I prefer the Audio Technicha because it picks up lower frequencies in my voice better.

 

It really all comes down to personal taste and what you are recording. If possible I would suggest going to a music store in your area like Guitar Center or Sam Ash and let them know your exact use and price range. They should be able to suggest something that fits your needs.
