Here are a few suggestion- 

 

Using video editing software, intersperse video clips with your performance. Add video effects. I track audio separately from my video and link it later because I get better quality audio that way. Though I recently bought Vegas which is a video editing program for the PC. 

That program "sees" my recording plugins and might be ok to do both with. 

I want to do more of this, just not much time.

In some cases, if you don't have the option to make a decent live video simply record only the audio and play it to a video. You can buy video clips for this. A few can be found for free online.

Here's an example I made with another artist, Kelly Chadbourne.

I'm with you on trying to learn techniques, angles, places to shoot, etc. For this video we recorded the audio, then "lip-sang" the video. I tried shooting from a few different angles and used a technique in Final Cut Pro called Ken Burns, where it would slowly pan, or zoom to give a slightly moving effect...
