Track: Jellycot.

Vocals: Jellycot and Michan.
Melody&Lyrics: Michan and Jellycot.

Production: Jellycot.

Hi everybody!!

This is a very nice pop song (and my first!!!) that I had the luck to build up with the great and charming producer Johan, aka Jellycot. He came into Songstuff asking for collaborations, and I joined!

He sent me a super cool "Happy track" he had around, and told me to try to write some melody and lyrics over it, asking me if I could please, in addition write some part in Japanese. Of course I accepted the challenge (it was not easy at all for me writing a song in Japanese... and probably not all the grammar is perfect haha).

I want to point out that, in this track, it was the first time for me listening to somebody singing my lyrics and it was one of the most amazing moments in my short music life. He is a really great singer with a very sweet voice, and his talent and knowledge in music production is noticeable if you check the quality of the track, and the great job he did assembling our voices together, and melting them with the music.

I'm so glad I had the chance to work with him (and still we have some WIP!!) and to become his musical buddy.

I hope you enjoy this kind of J-Pop tune!!

PD: For the ones that don't know, Sakura Rain is the moment at the end of the cherry blossom season, when the petals of the flowers start falling like white rain from the trees, so it looks like it's snowing in pinkish color!

Lyrics (because for us they are indeed important @M57!!) ^^

I got up in my bedroom,

the sun warming my face,

everything seemed so normal,

like any other day.

When I look through my window,

the quiet Sunday street,

I saw you waiting for me,

can't describe what I felt.

心はドキドキした、             // the heart was accelerated of emotion

感じはすごかっただ、               // the feeling was amazing

自分の人生じゃないみたい、  // it doesn't look like my own life

でも私のだ。                              // but it is.

I used to stay awake,

thinking about this day,

I wonder what will happen underneath the Sakura rain.

And when you smile that way,

a picture in a frame,

I wonder what will happen underneath the Sakura rain.

I wanted to rush towards you,

I had to see your face.

My heart was on my temple,

lost control of my breath.

When we met outside my place,

the words got stuck again,

then suddenly you kissed me,

under the soft pink rain.

自分の人生じゃないみたい、  // it doesn't look like my own life

でも私のだ。                              // but it is.

I used to stay awake,

thinking about this day,

I can't believe what happened underneath the Sakura rain.

And when you smile that way,

a picture in a frame,

I can't believe what happened underneath the Sakura rain.

Underneath the sakura rain.

I can't believe that happened underneath the Sakura rain.

I saw this coming,

I really want this to be real.

You make me happy,

It seems that we have shared a dream.

The way you're kissing me,

I think this is a dream,

but I'm not waking up I'm still here in the Sakura rain.

And when you smile that way,

a picture in a frame,

I can't believe that happened underneath the Sakura rain.

春は一番いい季節                        // Spring is the best season,

皆さんは愛について考える      // everybody things about love

何でも起こりうる                      // anything can happen

underneath the Sakura rain.

春は一番いい季節                        // Spring is the best season,

皆さんは愛について考える      // everybody thinks about love

And I'm so glad it happened

underneath the Sakura rain.

Excellent production and performances.  No problems at all with the music.  I also like the way the lyric shifts from the past to the present.  My only nit..

For some reason the lack of rhyme between the 2nd and 4th lines of the second and third verses bothers me.  You manage to create nice close rhymes everywhere else.

Congrats on a fine song.

Thanks for the comment!!

You mean in: street / felt

                        face / breath?

The first one had initially rhyme... because it was going to be feel, but then we realized we wanted to play with time and we had to change it to past. So yeah, it's a bit bothering to me as well. And face/breath for me is not that bad, it's asonant instead of consonant rhyme, but I thought it sounded close enough... but thanks for pointing it out. Sometimes my way of hearing rhymes is different than that from a native English speaker, and it's good if someone native mentions this kind of issues, so I can learn and take them into account!

Thanks for the listen, feedback and kind words @M57!!

This is so charming and well produced.  The music is lively and catchy.  The vocals are outstanding, and so nicely fitted together.

Just well done!

@ccarnucci thanks for your kind words!

I'm so glad you like it!

@jellycott just had a super cool track and a very clear idea about what vibe he wanted to get, and I was able to give him that! :)

Also he is really talented an he did an amazing job putting all together. And then... our voices really fit together really nicely! We made a great team! ^^

Great collaboration & production..  music and vocals. The lyrics seem to express an emotionally moving romantic experience that listeners may be able to relate to a bit more if the music lent itself to reflecting more of that mood, not one as lively. A bi-lingual piece of work such as this on a first attempt is a major coup in my book. Over my lifetime I have had only one song I attempted to turn into a bi-lingual piece... still working on it.

I am curious..  did you create the Title before, during, or after the lyrics? It's a perfect Title for your lyrics, or the story derived from it is very creative fine work.

   Follow your dreams..   Dan

Hey @domingo de la torre! Thanks for your having a listen. I'm glad you enjoyed the song! Thanks so much for your nice words!

The summary is: during the writing of the lyrics.

If you are interested in further development of the reasons, when we started the project Johan told me about the importance of a nice hook for the pop songs. His tip for me (he knew I had no experience writing pop songs) was the idea of building the song around the chorus and specially the hook. He said we needed something magic that can somehow reflect the "soul" of the composition. It was spring here in Japan, Sakuras were blooming. So, when I decided it was going to be a romantic song, I started picturing the story of our characters, with the idea of "magic" always in my mind: the boy is in love with the girl, but he is too shy to show her his love. He needs magic to get her to know his feelings, he always fails when he tries. But, when the petals of Sakura trees are falling, it's really really special, it puts you in a kind of parallel perfect world, where it seems all fantastic and surprising things can happen. So I came out with the phrase: "everything can happen under the sakura rain". It was not same melody as the final, Johan adapted the melody a bit, then I adapted it a little bit more, and them we tuned the lyrics to final shape, but Sakura Rain was always there, from the beginning. And, since it was the clear hook... and the title just came on the hand with it :)

I should say I had a couple of more verses completing the story of this couple in their first day together, but Johan, with very good criteria told me that we didn't need further development, that the story was enough this way, just using more times the chorus and the hook, changing the verbal tenses. And I think it was a real win!

Oh, and by the way, if you need some help for bilingual project let me know! I can write in Spanish and a bit in Japanese!! :)

I think you guys did a great job on this. As expected, a solid production by @jellycott. Both vocals sounded really nice as well. @Michan Is that the NT1A?

Can't wait to hear your next collab!

Thank you so much for your kind words!!! I'm super happy you enjoyed the song! It was also super nice to work on it!

@JayKay, welcome to Songstuff! You are in a great place to let music happen! If it was not for the site, I would have never had the chance to meet Jellycot or any other of the members I make music with (that are a few ^^). I'm also new to music, and being here just allowed me to use and develop my skills exponentially, and meet really nice people!! Thanks for the listen and nice words! And see you on the boards! :)

This is a wonderful song!  What I would call "radio ready"!    I love both of your vocals.  The music is perfect and the mix is top notch.  It's hard to give a crit on a piece that really doesn't need anything.  Great job!

Thanks for sharing.
