Hello, my name is Rob Ash.

 

I'm not rob ash, I'm Rob Ash. I'm not the new rob ash, I'm the old Rob Ash who left the site six months ago about the time Rudi and TapperMike left. I understand they are now back. So am I. I am notorious. Just ask almost anyone. I don't want to be notorious, which is a huge part of why I left.

 

Before I left, I had a sky high community reputation score and tons of those little points everyone gives out like candy. Now I have none. Stick around long enough, and you may learn, as I have, that none is better. Before I left, I was here every day, and often posted several new posts, as well as responded to half a dozen (or more) posts, every day. Won't be doing that this time around. I'm officially a lurker. I'll stop by now and then, and maybe even comment on something if I find it to be particularly interesting or fascinating. Don't hold your breath, though.

 

Before I left I had an opinion on everything. Trust and believe that that is no longer the case. I am not the kind to NOT speak my mind, but I have learned to not speak at all, most of the time, when it comes to the interweb. I won't be joining any intense discussions, or starting any.

 

I won't be posting any new songs here for critique. Ever. Telling you all why is likely the best way to ensure that 95% of folks leave me to my own devices, so here's the dish: I used to participate heavily in the Song Critique forum. I won't disparage it. Every serious up and comer musician should spend a few years getting banged around in there. It's good for your music, and good for your soul. If you have any real ability at all, you will likely reach a point where you begin to realize you aren't getting much that is constructive out of the critiques offered here, which tend to conform to certain patterns. Let's just say that I reached that point.

 

In short, I am Rob Ash. I am an old member, who is now a new member. The new me will have almost no foot print on this site. But, since I do plan to come around and see what a very small handful of people have been up to song-wise, I felt it to be more honest to introduce myself rather than just pretend I am not coming around.

 

So there you go.

On the critique patterns, much changed with the changing membership, different attitudes, different perspectives and different patterns. The site has changed. Not that it was bad, but I like what it has become and where it is going.

 

Rudi and Tapper, I can't remember the last time I saw them post. I like them both but it looks like they hang out somewhere else. If they did want to be back active they would be very welcome. A few old regular members are still here and they seem to like "what we've done with the place".

 

For whatever reason you came back, it's good to hear from you. I hope you enjoy your time when you are here and get to listen to some good music.

Welcome back to the site I guess. I hope you find here again a cool place to enjoy your passion! I don't know how the site was before, but since I arrive i've been enjoying so much the environment and the people with whom one can interact. Songstuff helped me to grow in music, gain perspective of what I want to do, and meet really nice people. It became like a second home for me!

 

I hope to see you at least a bit on the boards! It's nice to have you around! ^^
