My name is Melissa! I am a 28 year old singer and voice teacher dedicated to helping my students hone in on their craft and build confidence in their singing with hand crafted vocal exercises specifically catered to their goals.

My voice journey started when I was quite young and learning to talk, and it quickly blossomed in schooling through elementary, middle and high school choirs as well as karaoke, musical theater as an adult and eventually pedagogy and voice science study.I have been studying with Justin Stoney of New York Vocal Coaching, Andy King, and distortion expert Nicolás Hormazábal. I earned my voice teacher certification with New York Vocal Coaching and a distortion certification as well. I have also assisted in children's musical theater, children's drama and improvisation and am continuing to teach in these subjects.

I currently take improv classes, voice lessons and  post to my TikTok almost daily with new singing content! I also often sings karaoke at my local bar and am honing in on my craft as a belter and learning how to add more stylistic flairs to my own vocals, such as rasp, riffs, runs, and register disparity. I have a desire to serve my students’ best interests and help them find the joy I found myself in music and singing.

My approach to teaching is to serve and let my students tell me what they want to work on most, and help them craft the pathway there through practice regimen, encouragement and wild wacky vocal exercise fun! I teach primarily contemporary styles. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my daughter, writing poetry and acting, as well as working on my own singing technique with Justin Stoney, Kristy Bissel and Matt Johnson, my own voice teachers and mentors.

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to Songstuff! It sounds like you have a stack of experience in singing and are also well on your way in your own personal journey as a singer.

Apart from teaching (which is a laudable calling), and learning to be a better singer, both of which you explained really well in your introduction, do you have any ambitions for using your own voice as a performer?

Cheers

John
