Building Contacts

Hey

Apart from actually writing them down ;), what do you find the best way to build industry contacts? Particularly contacts that are co-operative :D

So, what do you do? What has given you personally the best results?

Cheers

John

Showing up at other shows to show support for the bands that support you is key. Even better if you show as a whole band, it gets the name around even if you aren't playing that night. Promotions for your shows during other shows is a no-no for me.

Be everywhere all the time!!

I always try to do a little research about whomever I'm trying to make contacts with. Like, if I go to a show I'll research everyone that the performers have ever worked with, that way if I meet someone there and recognize their name I can impress them by being like "Oh, you worked on the so-and-so project, didn't you?" and pull out the most obscure thing that I know about them. It takes extra time on my part, but I really think that people remember me because of it.

I agree with Lazz. Make them your friends! Find the guy who does the bookings and get to know him personaly! Get his name and phone number. Find out what he likes to drink and buy him a bottle for Christmas!
