Favorite Lyric Of Your Own

Hey

What lyric you have written is your favorite? Not necessarily your best, but your favorite.

Mine would be Awaken, lyrics written in 1995, music in 2000 and re-recorded in 2005. Not my fastest work! I have drafted a first person rewrite, but as Yet I haven't recorded it to see if I like it better!

Awaken

Verse 1:

True feelings take time to sort out,

Just have to wait and see

Soul searching does get under your skin,

A host of memories waiting within.

Bridge:

Don't criticise what you can't understand,

Don't blame the world 'cause it's not the way you planned it to be

Chorus:

Eyes wide open, stung by the sun,

Uncertain dawning of a prodigal son

In truth emotion, expecting to fly,

Paused for a moment as the world rolls on by.

Verse 2:

Thoughts tangle in a tight woven web,

Wrapped up and put to sleep,

Too close to see th whole of the scene,

Can't seem to realise, living through dreams.

Bridge:

Don't criticise what you can't understand,

Don't blame the world 'cause it's not the way you planned it to be

Chorus:

Eyes wide open, stung by the sun,

Uncertain dawning of a prodigal son

In truth emotion, expecting to fly,

Paused for a moment as the world rolls on by.

Bridge:

Don't criticise what you can't understand,

Don't blame the world 'cause it's not the way you planned it to be

Chorus:

Eyes wide open, stung by the sun,

Uncertain dawning of a prodigal son

In truth emotion, expecting to fly,

Paused for a moment as the world rolls on by.

Oooh, I like that one John! :)

I think my favourite lyric would be Stopping the World, I succeeded in being somewhat poetic in places, and it's also the most finished musically of all my stuff (due mostly to the fact it's a favourite)... It also happens to be the reason I found this lovely place! lol... That makes two happy memories connected to it! (the other being the return of my g/f after 3 months in America! :) )

Link here for the thread (hopefully it'll skip the rubbish start!) :P

And the lyrics themselves: (In fact I've just updated these a bit as I posted, so read them here, but comment in the thread above if you feel the need :) )

Stopping the World

Oh won't you come with me

On a walk to the sea?

Strolling side by side

Looking up at the sky

If the night's still clear

We'll watch the stars appear

Hear the crash of the waves below

As we sense the world begin to slow

We can ignore the weatherman

I think it's the best plan

'Cause we don't need the summer sun

The wind and rain are just as fun

And don't you love the feel

Of creaking snow under heel?

Any season at all

We'll slow the world to a stall

We don't even need a car

It's really not that far

We could just spend the day

It'll be great to get away

We could hike up to the heights

Fall into a heap

Sit in awe at the top

As we feel the real world stop

*Instrumental interlude*

The elements agree

We're something special you and me

We should make a start

Up by the river Dart

We'll find a farm up there

I'll run it through the year

So that here in our fires glow

We can start a world so slow

Rohan :)

  • 2 weeks later...

my favorite piece is always the one i'm working on haha. But then after a few weeks or months ill end up hating it and throw it away.

heres what im workin on now (first verse only):

Dead man sleeping on the side of the road

Blood drips down to the tips of his toes

Sitting in his seat,

Wrapped around a tree,

Another old friend

Another deceased.

I can see him there whenever I drive by

He looks up to me with this big old smile

I want to believe

He's just haunting me.

But its not him,

Its just a memory.

Well, I don't know, either. It changes, depending on my mood and what audiences seem to like (and fickle beasties they are, really). Here's one of two I wrote recently that I like, that haven't wore out their welcome with either me or audiences:

[4/4, fast rock 'n' roll beat--with pauses]

DIRTY DEEDS WE DONE TO SHEEP

--J. Wrabek

1.

Threw away the chains and rope

Someone's dumpster got the knife

I don't need them any more

I went out and got a life

Years ago, I left the farm

But the mem'ries followed me

Things that make us what we are

Dirty deeds we done to sheep.

CHORUS:

Dirty deeds we done to sheep

Haunt my nights and cloud my days

Should've known it wasn't right

I'd have done it anyways

Learned a lot out in the barn

Sometimes lessons don't come cheap

No escaping what we are

Dirty deeds we done to sheep.

BRIDGE:

How we waited months on end

Scared t'death that there'd be kids

Wond'ring if they'd look like us

I'd have raised 'em if they did

I ain't proud of what I done

I hear them screaming on the floor

I had promises to keep

I don't make them any more.

CHORUS:

Dirty deeds we done to sheep

Haunt my nights and cloud my days

Should've known it wasn't right

I'd have done it anyways

Learned a lot out in the barn

Sometimes lessons don't come cheap

No escaping what we are

Dirty deeds we done to sheep.

2.

Please don't tell 'em I was by

Or that I think about them yet

I see the marks are almost gone

They were young and they'll forget

I can manage to get by

When nights are cold and I can't sleep

I close my eyes and think of you

And dirty deeds we done to sheep.

CHORUS:

Dirty deeds we done to sheep

Haunt my nights and cloud my days

Should've known it wasn't right

I'd have done it anyways

Learned a lot out in the barn

Sometimes lessons don't come cheap

No escaping what we are

Dirty deeds we done to sheep.

TAG:

No escaping what we are

Dirty deeds we done to sheep.
