Fresh Scent of a New Year

Oh the songs of joy are over

The carols worn bare

And the nights are getting shorter

But most folks would'nt care

There's a frost in the morning

A white hoarey frown

and a promise of a fine day

With the sun shining down

Now we take down festive treasures

And store them away

And the bright coloured papers

Have all had their day

Fine baubles and fairies

and candles so bright

Did we all pray for peace

And a long silent night

Now the house feels so empty

With the passing of 12th night

But the promise of the new year

Makes the future seem bright

Excitement of planning

Where shall we go?

Working hard and saving

As the time passes slow

As the winter wends softly

to blossoms of spring

And the breath of the new born

Is on everything

Snowdrops and crocus

and buds on the trees

And the fresh scent of a new year

comes drifting on the breeze

Driving lessons

1/

A nervous lad was he

Thats what he said to me

The day he went out driving

His lesson was at four

Instructor at the door

I don't mind now confiding

That I was worse than him

I was feeling pretty grim

As this stranger took him off to teach him

Oh no, my baby boy's grown

He's 17 and counting!

2/

He swotted up the code

To help him on the road

He's learned the signs and warnings

He sat behind the wheel

And drove it down the hill

And he's booked for ten more mornings

Oh I was worse than him

He was looking fairly trim

as this stranger took him off to teach him

Oh no, my baby boy's grown

He's 17 and counting!

3/

I hope he's doing well

It's really hard to tell

But it's costing me a fortune

So when he takes his test

I hope he does his best

For me it can't come too soon

Oh I'll be worse than him

my account is looking grim

as I pay another wad to teach him

Oh no, my baby boy's grown

He's 17 and counting!

And then he'll want a car

To travel near and far

I think I'll have a breakdown!

It's going well so far! :)

Tumbling Down

She sits in the cafe

in her usual chair

Sips at her coffee

and plays with her hair

The world rushes by

outside on the street

so she lights up a cigarette

and shuffles her feet

She's seen lots of changes

Not all of them good

And sometimes the changes

Are not understood

And it's all tumbling down

Yes it's all tumbling down

The future is calling

The old ways are falling

But sometimes you need to slow down

Keep your feet on the ground

The bus stop is crowded

As everyone stares

She passes by slowly

And nobody cares

Her bags are too heavy

But she wont put them down

It's the burden of living

That's weighing her down

She thinks of her young days

When she was sixteen

The dances and romance

And what might have been

But it's all tumbling down

Yes it's all tumbling down

The future is calling

The old ways are falling

But sometimes you need to slow down

Keep your feet on the ground

I may add some more to this.
